  • Pete Franklin didn't sound like this. This recording is wayyyy too slow.

  • Aside to fawyu3...Pete Franklin was never fired by any Cleveland radio station. Kindly observe the "dead man rule" and refrain from rumors about someone no longer able to defend himself. Pete left WERE-AM because they refused to let him do Sportsline. He left WWWE-AM for WFAN in New York. He is easily the greatest sports talker ever, and pretty much invented the genre.

  • On the "Public Square" segment which followed the newscast, the host presented a plug for a book called "The Dream Makers," the authors of which were being interviewed. I'm going to borrow it from the library--it looks as though it might be interesting.

  • "Pigskin Pete" was simply the best sportscaster ever in Cleveland. His Sportsline radio show on WWWE was ahead of its time. I can still see Pete doing his show at the Richfield Coliseum after a Cavaliers NBA game. He loved Austin Carr and Bobby "Bingo" Smith!

  • Pete Franklin was a worthless blabbermouth who was once fired for giving Sudden Sam McDowell a blowjob in the Indians clubhouse before an Indians game.

  • They broke the mold with Pete Franklin. Best ever in Cleveland...shit, I've never heard ANYONE as good as him.EVER!

  • I wish you would have had some Tribe talk. I never cared for basketball and this talk is almost all hoops talk.

  • Pete Franklin Was The Greatest Sports Talker In Cleveland Of All Time BAR NONE He Was As Sharp As A Tack Listened To Him As A Boy He Was Funny And Great. Mike Trivisonno A.K.A Mr Know It All Used To Make Of Fool Out Of Himself Every Night On The Pete Franklin Show It Was Great L.O.L

  • Sweet Pete...one of the men most responsible for the death of NHL hockey in Cleveland. He refused to talk about the Barons on his show because they went to another station for flagship. Don't laugh! During the WHA days he helped make the Crusaders successful, but he did a complete blackout on hockey when the Barons came. In those days Pete WAS Cleveland sports.

  • Hey Krezzy Krezz - dat's da way da ball bounces - da way da cookie crumbles! Just ask Gabe Ball!

  • Don't forget Manny Dinero

  • Hey Krezzy... I remember listening to those terrible Tribe teams on the radio at my parking lot (no, not Lot D) by the Toiminal. The best thing about those sorrowful years was listening to Pete's acrid commentary afterwoids.

  • If who would go to the pros? Reds had Mario Soto who was a top prospect and Tom Hume had a good arm.

  • Peter J. Franklin - the Best sports Broadcaster ever on WFAN in New York City. Better than Mike and The Mad Dog, Joe Viningo, Richard Kneer Chris Carlin etc. WFAN dumped him because they didn't like his criticism of Don Imus their cash cow whom he never thought was a racist but a sports dumbbell which he proved several months ago with "nappy headed hoes" comment.

  • Peter J. Franklin, the Best Sports Talk show host of all-time. There's not even a close 2nd.

  • When I was still a little kid, I used to laugh my head off at this man. WFAN fired him beacause they didn't like unknown loose cannons with questionable ratings for the advertisers taking over their station.

OUR LOSER OF THE DAY today is WFAN owners and producers.

OUR WINNER OF THE DAY today is MANSHOTS!

  • Sportsline was a great radio program.

  • Moses Malone that MVP and the Reds won the Western Division but Gervin and Davis took their team to the Conference finals. Elvin Hayes had a great 79 but didn't play well in the finals against the Sonics but Dennis Johnson was MVP. No, Bill Walton didn't play and was traded to the Clippers the next season.

Mike LaCoss stepped up with 14 wins as well as Tom Hume for the REds. But Dick Wagner social faux pas cost him his job in 1983 with back to back losing seasons.
