Assholes only do this to get more money. They fine these kids or I should say their family up to thousands of dollars and if their family can’t pay it they put the PARENT in jail up to 6 months or wait until the child is older and put them in jail, and they say this policy " reduces child crime" when you make the child, temporally orphaned, unable to apply for aid if they go to college, parents with that jail time jobless, and both homeless due to lack of house payments and more in debt.
When I was in school which was only ten years ago. If you skipped school, or even got into a fight, the school and the parents handled it. Now they are arresting kids for truancy? The the world order wont happen overnight. It's happening right now but very slowly and shit like this is proof.
@vouvray59 No they need parents that give a shit and let them handle the discipline. The government is stepping over their bounds and going way to far. It should be up to them to parent peoples kids. I dont know why they had them in handcuffs or if they were put in jail but I know jail is no place for kids and should be used as a last resort for the violent only.
Arrested? At my high school if you get picked up by a truancy officer they just take you back to the school. And you get in trouble for skipping class.
@SingleWhiteSuperhero thats what there doing here. they take you back to school but they handcuff you. Truancy officers are allowed to do that but i guess some prefer not to. unlike this asshole in the video.
Bloody ridiculous. How on earth would young people like that be a threat to the point where they need to be handcuffed. I simply fail to understand American methods. What next the death penalty?
when i was in school i pretty much never went. i was arrested once for it but got fined for it atleast 6 times. i missed so much school when i dropped out in 11th grade i only had 34 credits, i was pretty much still a 9th grader lol.
WOW,arrested for skipping school!!!!!!!!!! never heard of that before. When I was younger people skipped school all the time and never got busted for it. If teacher found out the parents would be called and the kids would probably get home getting crap, grounded , and maybe school would suspend them for a certain amount of time. Never heard of kids being arrested for something like that though.
Back in the 19th century, it was actually pretty common for towns to appoint truant officers to round up kids "playing hooky". They became obsolete sometime in my grandparents' generation and truancy became seen as a parental responsibility. Nowadays with so many irresponsible parents, though, I guess this archaic practice is coming back into style.
@logik316 Maybe in the U.S but not here in Canada. I was born 1969 and all through the 80s kids never got arrested for skipping school, even today kids who skip school don't get arrested.
Some teens completely quit school in grade 10 instead of waiting to graduate, so a cop who doesn't know whether he/she is skipping or quit school cannot go and arrest the teenager. There is no law here that says you can't skip school or be arrested for it, skipping is just against school policies not the law.
It depends what state or town you're in. Some places use a gentle positive approach and try to notify your parents and offer counseling/tutoring programs, some go ballistic and send the cops after you and have you or your parents ticketed, and some authorities simply do nothing and figure if you think you don't need to go to school then you'll have no problem serving fries the rest of your life.
If youre not in school when you should be in england the police or commnity support offiicers just ask you what youre doing and send you on youre way . or if its police officers they might will pt you in the car or van and take you to school not handcuff you against a van or wall
Thanks, seriously we all ditched about the first 2 hours of school, and this happened about 15 feet from my house. But the worst part about it is that we were actually on our way to school, but the cops didn't believe us.
that is a bit pathetic and extreme, those jackbooted cops "are just following orders"....what happened to the days when a kid skipped school the parents were notified and it was their responsibility. The F' in weeny liberals think they are our kids parents
Yes why not cuff the kids. kids shoot people often enough to be a worry. It keep the kids from trying to do some thing stupid where they will hurt someone maybe even them selves.
There are a few state and federal rules that require people that are suspect of breaking the law cuffed when transported. OSHA has spoken. Also ACLU has opened it mouth on unusual treatment a few times also. Not mention the city insurance co. Now if scares a kid into going to school so much the better.
I really think if the parents were charged with child neglect and sentenced to 40 to 80 of cleaning up inner-city trash. I bet the kids would be in school.
@wisdom360 Welcome to the United Police States of America. We have the highest incarceration rate since the Third Reich; and cops with just about the same mentality. Don't you love our brave 'heroes' going after 11 year-olds like this? Exactly what you'd expect from a nation of sheep like ours.
I would usually say something like "This is pathetic over reaction and authority scare tactic!" or "The police should be ashamed and embarrassed of themselves." But honestly nothing surprise me anymore. This is an undeniable police state. We're nothing but slaves. What surprises me is how the police themselves don't wake up and realizing the power hungry corruption they work for. Soldiers throwing down their arms, refusing orders to execute innocent people, now that would surprise me..
When I ditched I never got arrested, but the assistant principal threatened that I'd be hauled off to juvi if I kept it up, which never happened either.
Anyways, most of it is scare tactic like the comments below mine say. And once you're over 16, they can't arrest you for truancy since you can legally drop out -- not encouraging anyone to drop out of school; there's just not as much to worry about once you pass that age barrier.
Same thing happened to me and my girlfriend when I was in high school. It was my first time skipping and the cops caught us. We were handcuffed and taken down to the station. We weren't booked, but had mugshots taken. I thought it was overkill especially since my gf was crying. We found out later it wasn't an official arrest, but a way to scare us straight.
@bulldogman59 Easiest way to get em in the system. Haul em off to truancy court, give them no legal representation and then either fine em, or lock em up. USA! USA!
@bulldogman59 I completely agree. It's one of he stupidest things I'vE ever heard of. Recently one of my teachers yelled at my and told me it was a PRIVILEGE to go to school. I walked out of the class. if it was a privilege then it wouldn't be against the law to miss. complete bullshit.

The handcuffing is all in the name of "officer safety". Cops don't trust anybody anymore, and the feeling from the public is quite mutual.
