@TheRealRayJ Yeah I went through many different distortion/overdrive pedals, amp settings, delay settings and reverb settings. So I turned about 30 "tone" knobs.
@ynx haha yeah i've been able to get pretty close with my boss OD-3, which ive heard is similar to an OCD but im not sure what version, probably not this one. this one sounds like there is almost a fuzz in it, which EJ's tone kinda has post venus isle (although i think Gem actually is done with a fuzz). might be the germanium diode. i've used a tonebone classic too but i find its more "clapton-y" then EJ. not that its a bad thing.
@timmy47 The OCD is different than other high gain pedals because it uses two different kind of gain stages and when you adjust drive past 3 o'clock you get a thickness to the sound which sounds "fuzzular". Something to do with mosfets... But of course, if you want the real deal, jtm 45 and a nice fuzz face all the way.
@ynx actually i have an old 69' traynor bassmaster which is pretty much a 59' bassman/jtm45 clone and i do have a fuzz face haha. it sounds pretty nice but its has its own flavour. i find EJ's fuzz tone sounds kinda horn like and thats what i set mine to sound like. just been chasing his venus isle era violin tone.
wow great tone, are you serious that is just the ocd, delay into your FDRRI ? You using a strat with stock bridge pu? Have you done the fritz mod to your drri yet? What the mod does is take away the brittle highs when you have overdrive, etc going through the rev/trem section. I was deciding on the OCD V4 or Zendrive. nice.
@ts808heaven Hey thanks! It's not a Strat but a 1981 Fender Lead III with a bridge hum bucker. I'm not thinking of modding my DRRI, I mostly use the normal channel as it sounds better to my earns. Both tone wise and in a band situation (more focused sound). I could redo this but with my 82 Strat not having a strong enough output on the bridge, I usually add the Lovepedal Les Lius you see in there.

so this is just the OCD cranked? or is it a modded OCD?
mmrgsn 10 months ago
@mmrgsn Just the OCD at the HP setting. I never heard of any available mods and besides, why mod something so good? :)
