An ESSENTIAL 80s funk staple!!! I'm selling all of my soul/funk/jazz LPs including a pristine orig NM/NM copy of LA Connection - Now Appearing if anyone is interested, hit me up!
After the disappointing sales of FACES in 1980, Maurice White wanted to take EWF in a more street direction. He contacted Larry Blackmon, they traded ideas, but the project never came to be. That's too bad.
yep - i found this up in toronto - come into my heart on it is the jam - larry blackmon/cameo produced and played on this - does anyone know whether they did a second album?
I was a freshmen in High School when I first heard this album.
The best song on this album was the ballad "Promise Me" which also appears on Mandra's album. Larry Blackmon and Anthony Lockett share composer credits (per ASCAP) for the song.
I never got this album but I remember the cover due to the fact it had that parliament cartoon look ...and so long and behold the artist is Overton Loyd, the cartoonist for the funk... no wondah....ok bye
Notice the name of the band is LA.Connection, NOT L.A. Connection. LA. as in short for Louisiana. I lived in Monroe, La. when this came out. So does anyone have Mantra??
Hello Wilbert.....I have been checking out the comments myself. This is your cousin "T-Notchie" daughter. It makes me feel good to see these comments about yall work.
Hello Tonjat, I remember when they performed at the gymn after the homecoming game in 83' that was the jam back in the day. Tell your mom and dad hamp (Craig) said hello also
Wow, haven't heard this anywhere except off my old 1982 radio cassette tape. I loved this. Someone fill me in...wasn't there another Blackmon produced band called "Mantra". They did a song called "Doing it to the Bone". Same time frame, same genre. I haven't see that on Youtube yet.
I remember this, I had the album when I was a teen. Another Larry Blackmon creation. LB was a hard working, young, up and coming producer at this time.
the drummer may have been from baton rouge, but the majority of the band was from white castle and donaldsonville la., the group started off as florescent smog and the name was changed to la. connection when they hooked up with larry blackmon
jhamp325 you are correct. Most of them in this group are kin. My dad was one of the lead singers...............They also had a gospel group called Heavenly Wonders!!!!!!
This record's awesome. I have it in my collection. Another CAMEO spinoff named MCB (Aaron Mills, Thomas TC Campbell, Jeryl Bright - '83)is also worth investigating.
hey bro...ur jams or some of the best....yo how can i get these jams..im trying to use limewire PRO but it dont show them.... thse r the jams to bump in the ride ya know... where can i download??
I saw these guys open for Cameo back in the early 80s and have looked everywhere for this tune. Very cool. Larry Blackmon made my high school life chime. Cameo was in Charlotte a few weeks ago and I couldnt make it and I am still sick about it.
