ppl, she ran the red light. That's why he got a small fine for his DUI. Her death was caused by her running the light cause she was too drunk to notice that is was red (may God bless her soul).
Leyritz had a bac of .14, pretty drunk. The woman had a bac of .18, which means she was wasted. It's likely they were both driving a little sloppy and had the misfortune of running into each other. This is really the worst part of drunk driving. Sure, you can make it home just fine 95% of the time. But, what if you cross paths with someone just like you?
@yankeecroc - he had a BAC of .14 two and a half hours AFTER the accident so he was significantly higher at the time of the crash. He is, what, 6' something & ~ 200lbs? that's at least 9 or 10 drinks. he had NO business driving - so fuck him. i'm sure that $500 probably taught him a real lesson... i mean that's probably DOUBLE what his bar tab was that night.
you guys need to chill. they were both drunk.. maybe the women was drunker then he was. people shouldnt be like oh fuck him and shit.. you guys werent there and didnt know what happened. his kids were crying and worried and shit and they see other people talking crap about their father just chill..
He didnt even look liek he really cared that the woman had just passed if it was me i would have been like fuck someone just fucking died and i had something to do with it.
@jorlocuba You got that right. All he got was a $500 fine and 1-year probation for taking a life. If this was your typical non-rich, non-famous person, he would have still been in prison. Our system sucks big time!
Both ran lights and both didnt try to stop. Not to mention when the trooper told him the person in the other car died, no emotion whatsoever. No emotion, no guilt.
The verdict was just. The testimony given, and the jury agreed, proves that Vietch ran the light. Maybe he was over the limit, there's no doubt she was. But the verdict severed sobriety from the crash. That she was going over 30mph, maybe even 50, at the time of the crash, proves she blew through the red light without stopping or trying to stop. Her fault.Totally.
@TheAlienGod The failure or the inability to react in time to someone else's mistake in no way mitigates that mistake. As I remember it, JL did try to turn at the last second. But given the speed that she blew through that red light, I doubt anyone could have avoided the collision, sober or otherwise.
The system is a joke! This guy is giulty it does not matter if the victim was also drunk, if this was any regular person they would be doing 10 years at least. The law is you crash your drunk and someone dies your guilty of manslaughter if your lucky. If it had been the other way around that girl would be doing at least 15 years.
It doesn't matter one bit that the women was drunk also. I don't know what country your living in. Both were drunk, neither meant to get in the accident, but the fact of the matter is that woman paid for her crime with her death. She is dead, he is alive and that means he should have to pay for it. Liberty AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.
Uhh.. if you actually followed the case, you'd know that Veitch had a history of DUI. And HER BAC was well over the limit at the time of the crash. And she had no seat belt on. And her headlights were off. AND there's evidence that she was texting and making phone calls up until the time of the crash. But it's totally all Leyritz's fault. Right.
They are covering the trial on TrueTV. They tossed one part of the sobriety test, the horizontal gaze. Which is going to make the prosecutor's case hard to prove. And the victim had a BAC that was over the limit, plus a history of DUI. So it may go his way.
Witnesses statements about Leyritz's light turning yellow to red while he entered intersection proves Veitch's light was red and had been red for some time. She ran the light and caused her own death. His sobriety is moot.
In case YOU are just running your mouth. Leyritz refused to take test. His BAC is based on test given 3hrs later. Break down of alcohol at approx. 1 drink/hour depending on body size. Actual police report by passenger in HIS car states that he was looking down AND ran light! Texting is around time of accident not AT time of accident. He may be broke but he has 1 of the highest paid attorneys in state. No mention of headlights off in report, but Insurance paid full amt to family proving hisguilt!
He seems lucid to me. Not sure what is happening in this case. He is going to trial, and supposedly is broke. If they tested his BAC three hours later, and it was .14, does that mean it spiked? Always heard that your BAC will go up, before it drops. I understand a woman died, and the police need to find someone to blame. It's possible it was her fault. Need to keep an open mind.
I believe people deseve a second chance if the case permits it.
This was an accident, eventhough it involved a death of someone, it was an accident.
He should not serve time and have to do A-LOT of work for alcoholic groups like SAD or AA etc. If then he is still a mess up, then by all means throw him in jail for a long time.
@O8SERVER Just FYI in case you are just running your mouth without a clue which I suspect... This mother of 2 you speak of had higher blood alcohol levels than he had and also she was ... let me break it down... driving drunk, texting while driving, and not wearing a seatbelt. It was HER that ran the red light but since this guy is "somebody" he is being tied to the whipping post. Buckle up for safety kids!
Until I saw this video, I was tempted to cut him some slack, but he has two problems. One is that the law in many states, stipulates that if there is a fatality, he can be charged if he is over the limit on alcohol. Second, there is a credible eye-witness who can place him running the red light. Unfortunately, he is learning his lessons the hard way.
two losers...he will be in jail for life..and she is dead..so these two losers won't be hurting anyone else in this lifetime..good riddance to two drunks...this accident was a blessing because these two pieces of garbage wont hurrt some nice law biding person..they would have in the future i guarantee..as for leyritz..he sure didnt give a shit that the other driver died when the cop told him..he could give a fuck..only thing good about leyritz was that he punched out his ex wife the other day...

umm i guess you didnt read the article where his son said Leyritz's ex wife was lying and Leyritz's ex girlfriend said the ex wife threatened to make up false charges against him and the ex wife admitted to drinking before calling the police.
