iPhone 3G version 3 Update and a sneak at the new 3G S

my iphone is jailbroken and has no service (don't have at&t, i have tmobile and im gonna unlock it soon) and is at 2.2.1. Will my iphone 3G stay activated if i update to 3.0?

It's noticably quicker since the update and the keyboard lag still occurs but it's much better than before. :)
