  • I saw them in Belfast Maysfield Leisure Centre Sat 24th April 1982 with a pre-show meet and greet with the whole band. It was my first rock gig and a true gem of a night, thanks to Rick and the boys back then.

  • Love Rickey. Blackfoot will NEVER be the same without him.

  • @luvmuzk I went to hit thumbs up button & stupid iPhone button made it a comment. So I just thought I'd leave a post to let ya know I'm not a complete nut! :)

  • Richfeild was in ohio guys

  • i seen you guys i think 82 in Richfield Colisium with April Wine Blue Oyster cult one hell of a concert thank god your still playing

  • Wow, I thought they were a 3 guitar player band like Molly Hatchet and Skynerd. Did not know it was just one guitar player shredding.

  • @Super1bigKahuna Watch the whole Video. There are 3 Players.Lead is Rickey Medlocke(now of SKYNYRD), JOHNNY VAN ZANT LEAD SINGER

  • Who's the douchbag with the bald head and long hair, probably dead now?????

  • Loved Ricky saw him many many times with blackfoot in Detroit, always as the opening act and Usually put the headliner to shane. Detroit loved these guys

  • Looks like four people needing glasses hit the dislike button instead of replay

  • great song!!! other than freebird are there any other songs like this?

  • brilliant guitar song x

  • the highway song, and all that implies

  • just love the power of the jam at the end!!!!

  • How in the HELL could anyone dislike this !...keep it alive, FOREVER ROCK...\m/...

  • i like how charlie and rickey switch between rhythm and lead, the outlaws do alot of that too.

  • Some fine double axe work on the skill level of Iron Maiden in this tune!!

  • Oh sith. It just hit me that the ending solo feels a bit like Rory Gallagher's "Shadow Play" :)

What a pleasant suprise, indeed ^^

  • i never thought id have to kill someone...but the dislike button has been clicked. Gene pool cleansing otw...

  • Look where he is today.......playing where he started....with a little band called Skynyrd......and this "solo" has bits and pieces of a bettter song called "Free Bird"....wonder where he got that from?

  • seen em back in the day, i think they opened for ian gillan, idk, it's all a big blur now. they stole the show. rickey is an amazing vocalist.

  • If you don't know about Rickey Medlocke and Blackfoot Then what the heck is wrong with you watch this video quick southern rock at it's best.

  • Rickey Medlocke Is awesome,One of the best southern rockers of all time,For a guy with only one lung he sure can sing!!

  • Man Rickey can really stroke on that Mother........

  • These guys were scary good in concert back in those days. It's too bad there is no roonm in a "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" for people like Blackfoot, The Outlaws, Humble Pie etc. alongside the likes of Blondie, Prince and Rum DMC...

  • i love this song

  • Was a huge Blackfoot fan back in the day - they never really got their due. This song kicks so much ass. The guitar work is amazing.

  • how mint are you ricky

  • brilliant,

  • Just damn...I haven't enjoyed a Southern Rocker band this much since I saw Black Oak Arkansas (with Ruby Starr!") back in the days of yore.

    thanks

  • idk how to interpret the fact that this song, in principal, is an attempt to match freebird. even if you listen to the rhythm guitar. but i guess its okay since ricky is playin for skynyrd, and the only one left in that band with any passion about what he's doing.

  • @FinancialBondage It speeds up as it ends, like FREEBIRD

  • How has Ricky managed transition to Skynyrd do you think?? Comparatively speaking?

  • they used to play charlotte, nc a lot. they are from nc, i think...... i forget. help me out here?

  • I saw them open for Alice Cooper in Dallas Texas.

They were so damn good, we called them back twice, before Alice came on stage!

  • a+ southern rock...love it..

  • Saw them in Peoria,IL in early 80s. Brilliant! Great band kinda forgotten by most. Strikes and Marauder albums were killer!

  • @misterpress Train Train is never forgotten on Midwest USA rock radio, never has been a poor selection

  • Another Great Song in History

  • A+ More!!

  • I love this jam , they really give it up for the crowd , also three of the members have Native American blood .

  • we could have had this again if Ricky wasn't wasting his time in the cover band Skynyrd.

  • It's bands like this that layed the foundation for the speed metal bands

in the future . even though this is just fast amped up southern blues

you cant tell me this did'nt influence some metal bands.

  • this is like the song free bird...ending solo was amazing...

  • OK I created an account just to comment on this vid. It's so good to see Rick Medlocke and blackfoot here in their prime! What a great time in history! I saw them at a southern rock concert at about the same time in Norfolk VA. Anyone who was anyone in southern rock was there but Blackfoot blew everybody away! Also the crowd who had all been drinking (among other things) all morning were crazy. I saw things I had never seen before or since! It is a vivid memory

  • seen em in knebworth many moons ago, brilliant live

  • i was there Edinburgh 82 awesome

  • You had to be there.. I watched them in 82.. Unreal..

  • this video is awesome!

  • Always liked this song...Good guitar players make history.

  • I agree, always a song I play after a few American beers.

  • end of this sounds a bit free bird..ish..the tempo and a few skynyrd esque licks...but i like it...saw these supporting scorpions in 1980...they were possiblybetter than scorpions on the night ..very good..

  • does rick ever perform any blackfoot songs with skynrd?

just curious if skynrd ever has him do that. i miss hearing him sing those good ol blackfoot songs.

  • Awesome post. Rick has the best southern rock voice. Clapton cant sing this well while soloing! Plus Rest in Peace Jackson Spires 1951-2004

  • thank you for posting, I love them very much

  • I Agree with the comment below, This song is one of my All time Favs.

I think Rickey Medlocke is underrated as well, He has a Great voice and plays hell out of the guitar.

  • I remember seeing Ricky and the gang play at a show...it was great, until I went home sat down on my bed and cried as a looked at my axe and knew I would never ever be that good.

  • FANMOTHERFUCKINGTASTIC.Great Band.I owe you one for posting.

  • Tak to mě poser!!!

    Paráda!

  • Amazing !!!

  • great post thanks

  • Check out Preacher Stone

  • Does it ever --even get any better --than THIS!!???? Southern Rock Rules Forever!!

  • How about a few on the same level..Outlaws-Ghost Riders & Green Grass..ARS-Doraville & Champagne Jam..Rossington Collins Band-Don't Misunderstand Me..George Hatcher Band-Coming Home..Point Blank-Nicole..Henry Paul Band-Turn It Up.38 Special-Wild Eyed Southern Boy & Rockin' Into The Night..Molly Hatchet-Flirtin' With Disaster & Gator Country..Grinderswitch-Ghost Train From Georgia..Allman Bros-Whippin' Post..Lynyrd Skynyrd-Free Bird..and my personal favorite..Marshall Tucker Band-Can't You See

  • @luvdemheels I had every one of those songs/albums! Every single one.LOL Saw most of those bands live too!

  • what a jam rickey and charlie were jamming

  • Hermeneutics of the subject:

This is better than (fill in what you want).

  • This is an excellent posting.

    Thanx

  • Is this Zurich show on CD or DVD ? Blackfoot is awesome, ass kicking ,70"s Rock!! Nothing compares to Southern Rock! American all the way!!!!

  • All these clips are taken from the very hard to find DVD "Blackfoot over Europe: Rattlesnake Rock 'N' Roller" which feature songs from shows both in London and Zürich 1982, along with some small talk by Rickey. The Sweden Rock Festival Show from 1994 is also on the DVD.

  • @ilovesouthernrock Must be fan made with all that material assembled! haha

  • @81partyon I have this DVD for sale if you are interested. Let me know. Thanks. Hiway.

  • Oh man, this is awesome! Great song, incredible performance.

  • I saw them this same year, 1982, live at Hare Arena in Dayton,Oh. My god what a show they played. Opened for Def Leppard and completely blew them off the stage. One needs only to watch these Live 1982 videos to believe. Such an awesome rock band with that classic lineup.

  • Saw them same year....I forgot they supported Def Lep, coz they blew them off the stage too in Manchester.

  • I love this song, I was born the same year this concert was performed but i dont care, lol As a person who travels all over for work this is just one of those songs that fits the bill to jam out to on the "highway" :-)

  • This is GREAT!

  • Rickey Medlocke is so talented, he is one fantastic musician

  • @skynyrdguitar7 with Skynyrd these days.......good to see him still trying to rip the strings on the ole git fiddle.....sad to see the Sourthern Rock founders in the twilight of their careers.......we will always have the best of them......in our memories and on the recordings of their youth.....long live Southern Rock...long live Ronnie Van Zant, Dwayne Alman, Ty Coldwell, and all who loved the southern life.

  • kickass song!!

  • forget freebird'

  • my grandfather used to love this song ever seen a 65 year old military man jam out to some black foot, he used to way back.

  • The solo has a definite Lynyrd Skynyrd feel to it. You can tell these two bands came from the same roots.

  • The best way to appreciate this song is to have heard it performed live during Blackfoot's heyday and for me the memory is worth having.

  • I remember those days brother.

  • Rickey Medlocke - A MONSTER of Rock! What a great showman, he is just unbelievable!

  • I saw Blackfoot along with Krokus open for Ted Nugent back in Buffalo in 81. They were awesome. Just great guitar and all out kick ass rock!! Jam city!!!!!!

  • jacksonville florida was the mecca for the best southern rock in the 70's and i was there. youd meet and party with all the bands around town and they were friendly great people. nor primadonas like todays crowd.

  • God bless Black foot! Great song. Great band!

  • Yeah I love these guys, I saw them in Fortworth, TX sometime in '80 or '81.. They warmed up for Peter Frampton..

    Thanks RITA for sharing!

  • Great band, I saw these guys in Corpus Christi '82(i think!) and Def Leppard was the opening act! My ears are still ringing!

  • how cool is this.....it kicks fucking ass!!!!! This was every bodies cruising song back in the day

  • Rita thank you :))

    awesome !!

  • rockz

  • Awesome stuff!! whats this dvd called??

  • great...smoke joint, have fun

  • they kick ass

  • Comment removed

  • Hey you guitar hero geeks match this!!!

  • i love it but don't know much about the band (heard this song on someone's mix c.d. and kept replaying it) has the singer passed away or something?

  • Nah man , that's Ricky Medlocke -he plays geetar for Lynyrd Skynyrd now.You prolly heard bout the keyboardest for Skynyrd -he died yesterday.God Bless 'em.

  • The drummer died a year or so ago. RIP Jackson Spires

  • I use to party to this song with a guy who was stationed at Ft. Bragg in 1980. Twenty-seven years later we reunited and he met his daughter he didn't know we had. I saw Blackfoot perform in Charlotte in the early nineties on New Year's Eve, not only did they sound the same and ROCKED the house, it also bought back alot of good memories.

  • Skynyrd should play this song live, that would be cool to see.Who knows though,Ricky may not want to sing this anymore.

  • I don't think Skynard would do this tune now as it would be redundant next to Freebird and also similar to Simple Man. Then there is the fact that Rickey may not be in the voice he once was. If his vocal on You Got That Right here on Youtube is exemplary of how he is sounding these days...well...? Singing can be rough if you are not training everyday like Rickey once was.

  • great song , great performance

  • I worked a night club in the 70s. At the time I had never heard of blackfoot. They were making albums but were not popular. For whatever reason I decided to sit through a sound check hours before the gig. Never in my life had I seen anybody play a guitar like that and I had seen some of the best. The sad thing is only about 80 people showed up for the show. It seemed as though they were at the end of their rope but a few years later became very popular.

  • What a great song! I almost forgot about this!

  • Awesome - what memories - thanks for posting - I actually prefer Blackfoot to Skynyrd - but hell - all great music

  • Blackfoot rocks balls out!!!

  • BLACKFOOT KICKED ASS!!!!

  • This is fuckin' Rock right here, shit is awesome.

  • Oh yeahh :)

  • In Highway Song Live album this is even better. One of the best, if not the best hard rock album ever.

  • a great song it sounds even better when howay the lads is played straight after it whith the geordie faithful singing at newcastle

  • hi i was there singing howay the lads at newcastle mayfair 80s one of the best bands ever

  • a good band without any of their original members is no band anymore just some sell out crap imo << MO

  • to detroitchuckie that r u talking about Blackfoot have two original members greg t walker and charlie so......and what about the

merchanical store it´s no problems buy things for me and i live in sweden and i got my stuff every time i order.

  • this is a good song. you need to get the blackfoot strike cd. it is a good cd. ricky medlock, also play with .38 s and L.skynrd

  • Fact: Blackfoot is on the same level as Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Oak Arkansas,...need I go on?! Maybe the best stadium rock of the early 80's!!

  • I just saw Blackfoot and Molly Hatchet last nite, and I realized Blackfoot has no original members!!! How can they call themselves 'Blackfoot'???? Boy, I wish I was back in the '80s again.

  • I went on Blackfoot's website last week & almost purchased some merchandise. Something told me to hold off. Now, because of your truthful information, I will keep my hard-earned cash in my pocket

  • How was Hatchet lookin?

    That singer is pathetic.

    They died with DJB.

  • why the compertition ? two great bands everyone should agree . as to whose best , thats just personal taste .

  • Blackfoot were better than Skynyrd.Take away Freebird and what have you got?

  • Gimme Back My Bullets?

    Gimme Three Steps?

    Sweet Home Alabama?

    Tuesday's Gone?

    (Did I mention) SIMPLE MAN???

    any more questions???

  • I STILL Love 'Highway Song', though. . .

  • With the exception of Sweet home Alabama the songs you mention, for me personally, are just average.I never thought that Skynyrd backed up all the hype.I did check out the Andy Timmons song and was impressed,he is new to me,so thanks for that.

  • go check out Andy Timmons' 'Cry for you'!!!!

  • How can you say skynyrd were underated when they were one of the most famous bands to come out of America? For underated look at Blackfoot.

  • couldn't agree more - prefer this to Freebird - good as Freebird was

  • the ballad of curtis low

  • really blackfoot is truly only know for this song (in my opinion) yeah I know there's people who truly know the other song but for a non die hard fan, this is the only song I know them for. but this is one of the best guitar solos of ALL time truly great thanks for uploading!!!

  • Dude, they have so many great songs: Rattlesnake Rock n Roller, Teenage Idol, Searchin', Send Me an Angel, Train Train, Crossfire. The whole SIOGO album was great.

  • green grass and high tides =p sry 4 the correction

  • Fucking awesome opening riff!

  • dood the reason y they sound...actually not similar at all but...actually theyre not even close 2 sounding newhere alike...they were associated with lynyrd skynyrd though...it just has a different feeling than free bird though

  • What a fuckin' jam song - one of the all time bests. This takes me back to Pine Knob (Clarkston, MI USA) when Ricky and the Boys walked to the front of the stage and exploded with this song - musta been around the summer of '81. They recorded Blackfoot Strikes in Ann Arbor so they're kinda our own! Thanks for posting!

  • Many hours CRUSING river road to this one. Thanks for reminding me of some great times.

  • Erm... just before 8.03, great song right enuff but bass chords? please! superb but lose the chords!

  • See the lights at 8.03? thats the fashion police comin to arrest the drummer!

  • if i had a pair of booty shorts id wear em all the time 2

  • Yeah, but you got the legs for em big boy

  • great jam,I Love this Song 5*****s

  • ...Rock On Brothers,Rock On...

  • Hi all

    what a great video

i saw Blackfoot at Donington Park in 1982

    and they were amazing

    thanks for postingthis video

    bring back good memories

  • i was listening to the Vertical Smiles record the other day, and heard the track Living in the Limelight. I know the track was written by Peter Cetera (which also does backing vox) Did he write this song specifically for BLACKFOOT? i remember hearing this in the 80's on the radio.

  • bass player is rocking out hard rock on

  • These guys are very good. But if you want Southern Rock. There may not be a better band and album than Marshall Tucker Bands/ Where We All Belong.

  • Where was marshall tucker band from and how did they arrive at the name for the band. One more, what was the name of the band before it was marshll tucker...

  • Marshall Tucker Band was from Spartanburg South Carolina

They were first called The Toy Factory. But changed the name to Marchall Tucker Band. Marshall Tucker was a blind piano tuner.

  • Cool good to see someone knows. Im from Spartanburg and my pops is good friends with Jerry Eubanks, the flute player. Me and his son Chris go way back. It is a very good album.. Keep on rocking!!

  • Killer! I guess you know one of the best albums all time- Where We All Belong. Tremendous guitar work.

  • Ricky Medelocke is perhaps one of the best guitarists in world

  • is this available on Dvd,this year & tour ?

  • Highway Song Live 1982, i know its on Cd but idk if its on dvd

  • blackfoot and lynard skynard kings of southern rock

  • Howdy folks, this here's your old buddy Shorty Medlocke.

What an awesome band, totally flew under the radar in the old Skynyrd/Molly Hatchet/Outlaws days.

  • Kickass!!!! Didn't know the killer singer was playing killer guitar too!!OMG
