I have a question... Do I only need the 2626 to record my drums? Or do still need a mixer or something like that? Do I just need some microphones, I'll plug them into the 2626 and then into my computer to record with logic..?! Am I getting this right? because if it is that way I'm thinking of buying on the these !!!

I just hook up my Profire 2626 and hook my keyboard to input 3 and 4 and bass gtr to 5,,,,but the volume knob on the firewire dont work ,,,,,,,,,,please help...
so what are the difference between the new maudio firewire and the protools 003R do they have the same converter.. if not what are they difference in architecture? thx
@revolutionaudio Thank you so much. You saved me some money! Do you know of any other Firewire interfaces like this that you can recommend for using it with PT-LE that wont require me have 002 or 003 to do what you mentioned.
i have a profire, and im trying to get a recording program , but this guy was telling me that having a profire and running pro-tools will give me a problem because i have windows 7... anyone know if this is true?
@audiogeekzine thanks alot bro ill look into it, i just need any program i can record mix and master drums vocals and guitars on , not worried about all that midi shit and other plugins something simple
@tokyorose999 Windows 7 is awesome as long as your computer is up to the task. Win 7 64 bit, with 4GB RAM and Quadcore CPU, should be OK. Win 7 works a lot better than XP for me. You'll need Pro Tools 8.0.4
with this, could i have my 26 mics into my mixing desk, going out to 26 seperate tracks via line out into the line in of the profire, into 26 seperate tracks on logic pro??
@MayonaiseKing100 It's possible, but that's a computer crash waiting to happen, unless you have like freaking 16 or 32 GB RAM with the new Mac Pros haha
i dont know if anybody can help me but i recently purchased the M-Audio ProFire2626 and i am running or at least TRYING to run it with the Cubase 5 Spftware and for one reason or another I CANNOT GET IT TO WORK. if anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated i have no idea what the problem is but i cannot record anything through the profire2626 onto Cubase 5 please if you have any help to offer please email me at communicationbreakdown92@hotmail.com

Every m-audio I've tried had some serious issues that prevented me to use them at their full potential or use them at all. This company is best avoided.
2) an Audio interface (It sends up to 26 signals to your computer at the same time) - (8 from the Analog INs and the rest from other digital inputs) so that you can record all these channels in f.ex. Ableton, Cubase, Logic...
@TravisRinker Haha, funny question, but I won't be a dick, I'll just answer your question. When one mentions a USB, USB 2.0, or Firewire interface they're talking about a piece of hardware with many analog inputs (1/4, XLR, S/DIF, MIDI, mic, etc..) and it kinda works as a pre-amp that sends those signals to your computer via USB (or Firewire like the Profire). In a home-recording studio you'd also run your monitors through it. In layman's terms, you use it to record stuff to your computer.
could someone daisy chain a Presonus FP10 BEHIND a profire 2626 and it still work with protools m-powered? or do they both have to be M-audio hardware? if someone could help, taht would be terrific!
Hello, I have a problem with my interface profire2626, the sound pauses suddenly, and no longer it sounds nothing, that can be, I ask if it can be the controladora card that is not 1394ª, but is only 1394 without the letter (a), I am thankful for its aid, that another one can be.
I am definitely buying a Profire 2626, they seem really incredible. However, I have experience in only the most basic aspect of recording and seriously need to learn more. I don't understand half of what is said about this, and I know it has cool features which I just don't understand and wouldn't know how to use. Any ideas where I can go to learn more? Is there a website or book which is particularly good?
Mike, could I use this Gateway T-6859u Notebook PC - Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 2.0GHz, 4GB DDR2, 320GB HDD, DL DVDRW, 14.1" WXGA, Vista Home Premium 64 bit run this 2626 or other interfaces.
If not this which one would you recommend I'm stumped can't find the correct laptop or PC :(
I using the m-powered 8 for software and I can't get the inputs to become active. When I launch the 2626 virtual mixer, all of the inputs are active and ready to go, but when I launch the pro tools (m-powered 8) they become inactive. I think the buffering and sampling rates are matched...what else could be the problem?
sorry to let you down after getting your hopes up by replying but i have the same problem too. i just bought the 610 which i believe is the exact same as the 2626, just less inputs. i use it with cubase studio 4, hate it and going to PT8 m-powered. have you found out what the problem was???
I spent a few days messing with the profire, I recently got PT 8. I found out that ultimately the firewire card was just really picky. But once I got it all up and running it was just a matter of making sure the inputs and outputs were set correctly, making sure all the latest drivers for the profire and PT were installed. I have a PC with an athlon 4200 and 3 GB RAM and everything works flawlessly. I love the direct monitoring with the profire as well. PT 8 is like crack, it's amazing
That's right - the firewire allows a lot of tracks to be recorded simultaneously. 8 analog inputs (like mics or guitars) and another 18 digital inputs (don't worry about this if you are new to this). It would work with all the major applications like Sonar, Cubase, Pro Tools M-Powered, etc.
1. You could connect to a 1010 via wordclock, but not sure what the purpose would be since you couldn't really use them at the same time (unless they are on two different computers?
2. It should work on an iMac g4 - here are the minimum and recommended requirements from M-Audio: Minimum System Requirements Mac OS X 10.4.10, 10.5.1 Macintosh G4* 1GHz, 512MB RAM FireWire 400 (IEEE 1394a) port G4 accelerator cards not supported/G5 required for sample rates above 96kHz. Recommended System Specifications Mac OS X 10.4.10 Macintosh G5 2GHz, 1GB RAM
hey Man I got a question. I have the latest Imac and it has 1 Firewire 400 port, The Profire 2626 has 2 firewire 400 outs to connect to your computer, Do I need both to run it?

mataloko7 7 months ago
@mataloko7 keyboards are line inputs so the volume controls won't do anything. Use the keyboard's volume control if you need more level.
A bass must be connected to the front on input 1 or 2 with the mic/inst button pushed in.

Will I be able to use the M-Audio Profire 2626 with the regular Pro Tools 8? I do not own M-Audio Pro Tools M-Powered 8.
MrCbolden 1 year ago
@MrCbolden The Profire 2626 works with Pro Tools M-Powered, not LE.
However you could use it as an additional 8-channel preamp if you have a 002 or 003 using the ADAT Lightpipe connection.

@tokyorose999 You need Pro Tools M-Powered 8.0.4
That's what I use and it's very solid.
Check our REAPER as an alternative to PT. Very powerful and less expensive.

@TravisRinker
Its importance for recording? IT RECORDS ^^
adrifromhh 2 years ago
oh why thank you
TravisRinker 2 years ago
It's fairly important man, it's the "interface" between your instruments and microphones and your recording software.

AUDIO (analog) -> 2626 -> Computer (digital)
it is
1) an A/D Converter (Analog/Digital)
2) an Audio interface (It sends up to 26 signals to your computer at the same time) - (8 from the Analog INs and the rest from other digital inputs) so that you can record all these channels in f.ex. Ableton, Cubase, Logic...

Is it mac or pc? Are you running the correct operating system? Is this a full registered version of PT 8?
Thanks! We've had the 2626 and PT 8 just fine on a couple of PC's running XP. Have not tested the Mac side of things.

hey, (im new to firewire), does this interface record each track simultanously for mixing in say a program like sonar on the computer?

Would this work with Pro Tools 6.9.2?

only 7.4 and later

And it would have to be Pro Tools M-Powered - it will not work with LE made for the M-Box.
