I spoke with a small business owner today. This healthcare plan Obama will push out will force small business owners to provide healthcare to their employees. Forcing this will jump cost quadruple to maintain an employee base. He will be closing his business and put 10 people out of jobs.

The American people are getting screwed by Washington's relationship with insurance lobbies. Having public healthcare to compete with private healthcare will lower costs significantly, because public healthcare with no extravagant overheads is inherently more cost efficient. On the other hand - a SB that closed last year will reopen - now a frozen yogurt shop. These big businesses closing will provide room for small biz to grow - w/ a little push. I spoke with a small business owner today. This healthcare plan Obama will push out will force small business owners to provide healthcare to their employees. Forcing this will jump cost quadruple to maintain an employee base. He will be closing his business and put 10 people out of jobs.

We pay more per person for health care than any other nation in the world and get so much less. Why? Because insurance and pharmaceutical companies are making a killing. The American people are getting screwed by Washington's relationship with insurance lobbies. Having public healthcare to compete with private healthcare will lower costs significantly, because public healthcare with no extravagant overheads is inherently more cost efficient. Isn't competition what conservatives advocate?

LOVELIFE54 - My favorite Starbucks closed their doors for good today. Then I went to Circuit City - they close in 4 more days. On the other hand - a SB that closed last year will reopen - now a frozen yogurt shop. These big businesses closing will provide room for small biz to grow - w/ a little push. It's going to be exciting. We griped about big box stores taking over - now there will be more room in the market place for small business to gain larger market share.

LOVELIFE54 - I've met and worked with many millionaires who are great people. Let me clarify - when I say "fat cat" I'm not referring to a dollar amt - I'm thinking about people who lie, cheat and steal - which is a minority. I'm a small biz owner and writer. I do fine - but when you keep reinvesting back into the biz - well, it means it'll take me longer to retire - but I love what I do so I'm okay with it. Thank goodness my husband is the saver.. LOVELIFE54 - Most people don't want a handout - yes - some. Send 'em to a job training program and get 'em off welfare. I see people w/ entrepreneurial drive constantly in all age groups. Also, young people encouraged to reach harder and farther because Obama's a role model of success. Many felt "the system" was stacked against 'em and now the playing field is being levelled so they're encouraged to work harder and fly right. Obama's about personal responsibility - definitely not handouts.

LOVELIFE54 - In the 80s there was a program in Wisconsin for job training to get folks off welfare - what a great thing. Should be national.
What I hear from many African American folks - it's time to step up our game. AA women are starting businesses at 4x the rate of men. Time to take education, career and life more seriously - we have no more excuses. They get it. There's much soul searching going on - personal growth - which leads to other positive growth. That's what I see anyway.

The point is we all have different nuances in our point of view - and truly we need to listen to each other if we're going to really get anywhere. I voted Obama and I'm happy about some things he's done - but not happy about others. Generally I'm more pleased than not..

To progressives like myself, Obama is a mixed bag... we're still pissed he plans to leave 50k troops in Iraq.
BUT, the promises he made about ending tax breaks for oil companies, investing in renewable energy, stopping health-insurance companies from controlling health-care, building infrastructure, supporting net neutrality and open internet/wireless spectrum, along with a foreign policy that isn't as insane... are all good reasons to vote for him. Kucinich would have been better though.

Much of why I voted for him is - he didn't take money from big corps and interest groups - he's free of big oil, big corporations and can make moves favoring the people rather than them. I wanted a green economy and no way could McCain create that. I wanted regs enforced on Wall St , the FDA, govt vendors and the GOP would never give us those things.

feurzug - we're just finding out in some of the memos from the Bush2 administration - that's exactly what they did - and those powers lessened our civil and Constitutional rights. Everyone took it lying down (almost everyone) because they were afraid of terrorism. I read the Patriot Act when it first was released and it's powers were sweeping and scary. But I couldn't convince others to just even skim over it and learn what it is.

I think he's just doing that to look a bit more professional and to make it seem more like he's talking directly to us. In the rallies, he had to face everybody in the audience and had a lot to pay attention to. Besides, I'm not sure how you're expecting him to behave when he's recording a video addressing people who'll be watching on a computer.
