God I hope you didn't get surgery. I marched for years and played Burton grip with birch shafts and developed Curtis-Tunnel syndrome. You most likely have that and not the other. I looked into surgery and my doc at the University of Oregon happened to be a specialist in that area. He had me go to acupuncture and my therapist there happened to be an expert in Alexander's Technique. It fixed virtually everything to include migraines. Also I changed my grip to a modified Burton and used rattan sh
you should know, this is boss. i cant believe how well you played that. this is a favorite of mine:)) ill probably want to play this soonish, is there music for it?
You couldn't see that everyone else replied with helpful criticism or compliments, and that you're the only one who demanded a recording? You might've at least asked like a civilised person, and maybe spelled like you don't spend your life on the computer. Get some manners and think about coming back.
This is actually my own arrangement. Since so many people have asked- I'm hoping to have it available on my website by the end of the month, copyright permitting.
Thanks. I actually already have carpal tunnel, so I have to sacrifice technique for what puts the least strain on my nerves. I'm getting surgery, finally, which should allow me to go back to the proper grip. Good of you to notice, though.
@StevensGrip dont sacrifice technique you have to change technique and try to use your wrist a bit more. for the moment you strain your lower arm muscles a lot.
Playing with the full arm is a very old drumming technique. Off course you should use the arm for a stroke but a full stroke starts in the elbow and ends in an up with the wrist!!( you keep your wrists very stiff: that causes pain!) you just keep your arm angled and stiff and hit from the shoulder. Arrangement is very nice!!
it is an impressive adaptation but your technique is pretty bad, you're VERY tense and your thumbs are almost never over your index finger which is actually where they should be. Also, your thumb tends to pull up and when the knuckle bends up like that it is terrible for your tendons. I'd slow down for a bit and work on your technique so u don't end up with tendinitis or worse.
Practice. I use a technique called 'Stevens Grip' alas, my user name. Playing with four, or even six mallets is like using chopsticks in a way. It may seem difficult at first, but once you get the hang of it, it becomes easier.
wow thats not feeble, thats amazing, thanks for conducting our band while z isn't there, and tiggxtreme, i really hope you know what you're talking about cause if you don't ...ha

Not bad at all, very nice attempt at something of such caliber on a marimba. If you practice it a lot, it'll make a truly unique vid.
