Do not criticize them, at least they are making an effort, thats more than most Americans do. You should not be able to graduate from High School without having at least 2 or 3 years of German, French or Spanish. This is one of the many reasons that Americans are veiwed with disdain in the world, along with a general disgust for the Bush Presidency debacle of the past 8 years,

It's because language or culture isn't forced onto them through education.

In Canada , it's a requirement for us to learn French , and we may never need it in our whole lifetime. I don't want to waste precious brain space learning a useless language.

@alexross8 its not required you learn french here, i had to take it for 4 years that was it, and english is a spectacular language to learn, mainly because it is the international language of trade and is the most spoken language on earth
