  • Those shoulder harnesses on the ride didn't look safe (I prefer the overhead shoulder harnesses, which are more secure.) Mantis at Cedar Point is so much better than King Cobra.

  • This ride closed because after Togo shut down, it became hard to maintain. Parts were hard to find, maintenance cost went higher, popularity for this ride went down. Kings Island did try to sell it, no one bought it because it was rough, out of date, etc. So yea Kings Island did the right thing and took it out.

  • i swear i rode this, but i keep thinking that it went around a pond and it had a giant figure of that little miner guy with the long orange beard? anyone gotta clue of what coaster that was?

  • I remember when i was younger riding this and over the bunny hops we would lift our feet

  • I love the anemometer at 0:50 . Haven't seen that on any of KI's other coasters.

  • I remember waiting for 2 hours to ride this thing back in 1984 when it was new. Very cool coaster back in the day.

  • I miss this ride. It's was fun.

  • I never got a chance to ride this :( i was too little. This makes me really want to ride a stand up coaster

  • this ride is just like skyrider at Canada's wonderland

  • *Puts hand together* time to make me manager and get the true kings island back.

  • 1988?

  • I thought this ride sucked when I was 8 years old. And i waited 2 1/2 hours for it. Waste of time

  • This was my favorite coaster for 4 years til they took it out. :(

  • thumbs up if your watching this in 2011

  • Wish I rode this..

  • Give me a list of the best roller coasters there

  • all hail king cobra!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Why did the shut or take this down?

  • They should take out the freaking derlium and put a roller coaster just like this one!

  • @partyclubleader agreed! derlium is just a giant swing.

  • @iluzzmybaby16 thats pretty much the windseeker

  • at 00.54 what is that big stick in the middle

  • RIP KING COBRA

YOU WERE THE BEST.ONE OF THE CORNERSTONES OF THE PARK

  • Those little hills at the end broke your balls

  • is this now the vortex

  • Why do the people look like they live in the 1980s?

  • @woosterr101 because it was filmed in the 80's

  • i think that they should take out adventure express and rebuid this!!!!!!!!!!!!! there is never anyone in line for adventure express and it's kinda lame they do a big bulid up at the end and then nothing happens lamest rollercoaster ever but this look cool and i never got the chance to ride it because i was too short

  • is this still there?

  • @prodiggy3848 Nope /: i just went yestrday and it wasnt

  • it got stuck for a second lol ... Kings Dominion (its sister park in VA) has the shockwave which is still open

  • it got stuck for a second lol

  • i bet the diamondback is cobras brother because their both snakes right?

  • i got stuck upside down in the loop on this when i was younger

  • Where was this in the park?

  • @Hadslo It was located where Delirium ride is today.

  • i miss this ride

  • I remember seeing this ride around 2001 I think, unfortunalty I never went on it. I would've liked to though.

  • sucks that they took this down never got to ride it):

  • is this even at kings island anymore?

  • @MrsJonasNicholas No, it was removed at the start of the 2002 season. They had attempted to sell it, but there were no takers. Supposedly much of the steel track was rusted out prior to that time. Fortunately the two similar coasters found at two other Cedar Fair parks had better quality/maintained steel, so they continue to operate.

  • @CoastersNSich Its in filight of fear

  • @MrsJonasNicholas yepp i just went there like a week ago :)

  • Why was King Cobra Torn down. it was the closest stand up to me and its torn down

  • @32o4 The company that designed it had gone out of business, so spare parts would be hard to come by, so KI got rid of the ride :/

  • @cartoonFreak66 the ride was sinking into the ground and became unstable.

  • @AdventureX1 the whole sinking into the ground thing is all bull. idk why some people get the feeling that any ride is sinking. but king cobra was torn down because replacement part were very hard to come by and very expensive.

  • @32o4 ya' now everyone has to go to cedar point!

  • @32o4 theres still on at Canadas Wonderland in Toronto

  • @harvestmanman..The Bat was removed b/c of a design flaw. The track was not banked on the turns which reaked havoc on the shock absorvers. It also placed excessive stress on the track and the supports.

  • that looks the same as sky rider at canadaswonder land and i checked and sky rider was made by togo too i dont think that was the reasion beacause i just rode sky rider this year and its been there before king cobra by a few years. the station evan looks the same like dajavue, the only prob with sky rider is that the chain lift stalls like it did in that vid because of friction on the chain but that might be what brought it down. you can find tones of times skyrider got stuck on the lift.

  • @skiboy247 I kind of doubt that, King Cobra was the first stand up roller coaster, that was designed as a stand up coaster.

  • @123iloveuu No it's not. It was taken down because Togo, the company that made it, went out of business, and replacement parts were too expensive.

  • The guy at 0:19 sort of looks like Will Ferrell

  • I miss this coaster... Probably one of my all time faves in the history of the park... You can never forget the Delta Demon or the Bat though.

  • @bygod76 not delta demon. it was called the screaming deamon...

  • This ride is just like Shock Wave at Kings Dominion. Still fun though!! (:

  • R.I.P 1984-2005

  • the king cobra is gone bc someone died on it lol i didnt get to ride it ughh but srry people who died

  • @EatAtWhiteCastle oops, you're right. The 2006 accident was only injuries.

  • No one died on Son of Beast in 2006, and no one has died on Firehawk.

  • @EatAtWhiteCastle No one died on SoB in 2006, but on July 30, 2007 a man died from hemorrhagic shock from blunt impact to his torso a day after riding. And on August 8, 2009, a man died after riding Firehawk and having breathing problems. Both victims had pre-existing medical conditions, but a death is still a death.

  • omg i miss that ride! .. how sad they torn it down =(

  • Comment removed

  • Time to eat my words. It was a woman dying while on the Skylab thingy. Also, since KI counts the Eiffel tower elevator as a ride, there's a second one. John Harter, a high school graduate, was climbing the inside of the elevator shaft on graduation night, May 13, 1983. He was trying to jump on the elevator to scare his friends, but he was crushed and killed by the counterweight.

  • @HarvestmanMan Skylab once injured a dozen people, but never killed any. On the contrary, people have died on or after riding Flight Commander, Firehawk, Son of Beast and Flight Deck.

  • this aint kings island

  • @tempyst13243jb Yes it is.

  • @TombraiderTy what did i say i forgot

  • @tempyst13243jb yes it is

  • Was a nice Coaster,,,, Hope they put in another standup coaster at Kings Island.

  • Dang'

  • This is shockwave at KD with vortex's colors.

  • copy off mantis has da same exact hill drop and loop all at the same exact time

  • @mewtwofan88 LOL... Matis was built like 10 years after this and was way bigger and better.

  • @callmemarc thank u 4 the info dude

  • @mewtwofan88

Mantis was made waayy after King Cobra, and alot of rides have that beginning, a drop then a loop.

  • It was an older coaster got taken down it got replaced by the dilirium next to invertigo and sob but sobs not been runnin for a while

  • This ride was short but I always liked it. Never any line

  • what kind of roller coaster you stand up on are you talking about lol?!?!

  • this is like almost the same as the shockwave at kings deminon

  • This looks ALOT like the vortex. :D

  • @TheRandomBranden no it doesnt o.e

  • they went bankrupt and couldnt find the right parts to replace the bad parts

  • thats not a ride a kings island i have season passes and since 2008 i know thats not a ride and theres no ferris wheel in kings island and so yeah thats my point but it looks really scary

  • @nephitecommando it got taken down in 2005

  • @AsItNeverSeems 2001, actually.

  • @nephitecommando it got taken down -.- i REALLY wanted to ride it to. ugh

  • so they replaced it with somthing better Flight of FEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrJmandude They didn't replace it with FoF. FoF was constructed in the 90s. Delirium now sits on King Cobra's site.

  • @TeamApparition it still got replaced --'

  • no delirium

  • @cameronpoe321 I know its delirium!guy toldme already

  • the lift music is like a spooky party, then it turns into a mexican fiesta.

  • Project coaster guy they took it down in 05

  • thats almost exactly like shockwave at KD

  • They just got the kobra did they take it down tho

  • when was this ride at Kings Island?!?

  • @brownsfan65 1984-2001

  • to make things short. they took it down becuz it wuz siinkin in the ground

  • @moosefamily Umm... no... the main reason was TOGO was going out of buisness so it would be difficult to get parts for it. That "sinking" rumor is usually connected with Vortex, even though it's not true.

  • whats the one thing on top of the beast right nex to the king cobra

  • I do agree! We loved the phantom theater!

  • i hate how rollercoaster tycoon doesnt let you do helixes on the stand up coasters

  • @JDrockerDUDE

    RCT2, yes.

  • @WeHateThePatriots no rct.

  • @JDrockerDUDE Roller Coaster Tycoon 3 does!

  • @JDrockerDUDE yes it does

  • @coasterwild um...no it doesnt i have been playing rct for almost 10 years. the stand up coasters dont let you do helixes, it even mentions that they should be avoided on stand up coasters in the description. it lets you do banked turns, but not helixe. rct 3 lets you do helixes on them, but not rct or rct2

  • no one died on the bat it was a rummer the brakes was failing so the cars were swinging to much and they could not fix it

  • Actually I work at KI. All the parts for the Cobra are still in the woods at KI. They were sold about 3 yrs ago to a park in Spain but the deal fell through because they couldn't come up with the money. The parts are still able to be put together and used. Who knows... with the other snake themed rides at KI... we might bring it back!?!?!

  • @isingjoy If anything should be brought back, it's the Phantom Theater! It was a huge favorite during its lifetime. :)

  • Oh...it's a Togo...ouch.

  • this in slow motion go0sh and spidertron is an ass

  • i have never seen this at kings island and ive been there 100 times!

  • It was taken out in 2002 and was located in the lot where the slingshot and Delirium currenlty reside. The Delirium is resting on the exact spot where the King Cobras double helix was once located. I must have ridden this coaster close to 75 times. I loved it, but it was a ball buster!

  • it got torn down a lllllooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggggggggg time ago becuz it was too costly

  • this ride ruptured my testicle

  • At the end of the ride, just before it stopped there were a few little hills or "humps" it would cover...and when you were watching the ride from the outside, it actually looked like a snake slithering...pretty cool....

  • i've been going to KI for 31 years. this was a great ride. i still remember the bat and the screaming demon. they were awesome.i miss the old rides.

  • what defunct? its intersting to see old rides fade away ! when i was young they had the bat and aride in center of prk that was just a loop, you went forward, then back and taht was it! (black and gold) i miss kings island , i cant go anymore!

  • This is the same as sky rider at wonderland and when i got off it my head was aching not good prtection i tried to restrain myself from hitting my head but i couldnt

  • looks fun, wish it was still with us.

  • Aside from 4th dimension rides and flying coasters, stand-ups are my favorite coasters. Pity to see this historical ride gone. :(

  • wtf is up with the music?

  • THEY COULD HAVE PUT DELIRIUM SOMEWHERE ELSE IN THE PARK!!!!! but they ouldnt get parts anymore as the manufactuer went out ob buisness

  • LAME

  • Don't overlook the fact that this ride was built back in the 80's. Kings island and Cedar Point were doing coasters in the mid/late 80's that other parks didn't start getting until the mid 90's.

  • gayyyyyy no wonder why they took it out...

  • They took it out to make way for Son of Beast

  • No they didn't. You can find pictures of this and Son Of Beast sitting side by side. They took this out to build Delerium.

  • both wrong took it out because the manufacter for it went bankrupt and they would not get parts anywhere else

  • Looks a lot like Shockwave at Kings Dominion. Both were made by Togo with the Shockwave being built two years after King Cobra (1984/86). Do you know if King Cobra became a parts donor for Shockwave cause that's not shut down.

  • its exactly like the shockwave at kings dominion

  • Shockwave and King Kobra are different after the loop.

  • It was bought out by camden park of west virginia, so ive heard...

  • yea but they destroyed it

  • So King Cobra was destroyed for mechanical problems, financial problems, or to expand Kings Island (I think Delirium is in the place of King Cobra now).

  • It was dismantled to that KD could use the parts on their coaster similar to KK

  • no it was bought by camden park then destroyed

  • Awe, I miss the King Cobra!

  • @nhirajeblack

Go to Kings Dominion and ride Shockwave... it's essentially the same ride, only difference is the back half after the helix is slightly different in layout.

  • i've never seen a 2 people per row stand up coaster. wow. the stand coaster i go on is the iron wolf sf great america, and i believe has 5 ppl per row

  • NO it has 4 ppl per row

  • 2 ppl per row, four per car.

  • Being built in place means it was built after Zodiac was taken down. Duh your the one that needs their facts straight.. I know what i'm talking about. Urban legend says that site is cursed. haha

  • Flight commander was lane. I rode it. lil pods that spin in a circle, then it goes up. Controled by a joystick in the middle you could make it go right left or g roll. Very boring ride. I remember reading about the woman died. Also someone died on the Zodiac where Flight Commander was built in place of it. The track at 1:43 the last car was shaken loose, the wheels came off and the car went off track. Yes they died. It happened in 1985/6?.

  • Haha no, Flight Commander replaced Zodiac, one person died on Flight Commmander she was on drugs/drunk. No one has EVER died on King Cobra,it derailed, but no one died. Please dont tell people the wrong things!

  • the last car came apart 2wice. Peolp did die. I read about it a long time ago. I loved this ride. I rode it 7 times one day when I was 8.

  • aaaand you're a retard. no one died on it. only one person died in kings island and they died on some coaster called the flight comander cause she was a drunk bitch.

  • Actually, Flight Commander was not a coaster, rather a ride that roated in the air. People were able to control their capsule. I have the newspaper article from the accident. Interestingly though, two others did die the same day. One was a guest and the other a work who drown trying to rescue someone who fell into a lake.

  • They just had to remove King Cobra because the manufacturer that made it went out of business.

So they couldn't buy the parts.

  • Also so that Shockwave at KD could use it's parts

  • wow..

    this ride.. haha..

    goes kinda slow,

it's sweet to see how much kigns islands

    changed.

  • the bat killed people you moron went ride of the tracks

  • the bat had a spotless safety record.

    Its a rumor.

it was taken down because the company

who made the parts went out of business.

  • um nothe bat was terrible at maintenence my dad said it was only open like 2 times during its whole career so thats y the bat waz taken out the turns were not banked and the cars swung out way too far and the track cracked and so did the trains the rumors were that ppl got killed on it.

  • i thought someone died on this ride...thats why they took it down just like the bat

  • no one ever died (or was even injured) on king cobra or the bat. both were removed due to outrageous maintenance costs.

  • o alright thanks for clearin it up :)...cuz i was confused

  • dont forget the machine was a glorified torture device

  • the bat had tech problems and they could not fix them

  • @sk8orhateit no one died on the bat but i dont know about this

  • @AsItNeverSeems No one died on this, either.

  • @AsItNeverSeems A woman got ripped in half on the bat, and someone got decapitated on King Cobra.
