  • Pitrelli is way better than Marty. Dread and Fugitive Mind solo blows Tornado of Souls solo away.

  • @LordVicRattlehead go kill urself seriously

  • @LordVicRattlehead I agree with Dimebag Darrell Fan go kill yourself, Pitrelli isn't even a close second to Marty just go die

  • @MartyFriedmanRulez66 Lol stop cock riding Marty Friedman. He can't get credit for RIP since it was written before he joined. Even so, Megadeth went downhill after Friedman joined. He slowly took away the thrash and headed towards Hard Rock/Pop. The discography proves it.

  • @LordVicRattlehead Dude you're so stupid they had four songs of RIP written before he joined and Dave wrote all of the material anyways, Marty did nothing except solos maybe they started going more hard rock and pop because NEWS FLASH musicians don't like to do the same shit over and over again. They filled their boots and went back to playing thrash, coincidentally, after Marty left. How about you stop cock riding Pitrelli, you make it seem that his dick is bigger than it actually his.

  • @MartyFriedmanRulez66 What a pitiful excuse to defend Marty. If he doesn't like to do the same type of music then he should have quit, he wasn't cut out for metal. It wasn't a coincidence that after he left and they hired Al that they began on the road of redemption. Marty was only there at the right time, it could have been anybody. He is way overrated. Go hear Marty's covers of Megadeth songs he did in Japan. Listen to him destroy his own music with his shitty pop.

  • @LordVicRattlehead "Destroy" "Shitty pop" listen to yourself, you're a fucking joke kid, his new stuff may not be your thing but it's got some of his best guitar work. Risk and going more "pop" as you say was all Dave's idea he just wanted to try something new (like what Metallica did but you know without the need for money like Metallica has) It was a coincidence you're conspiracy fucked mind just wants to believe that "AL IS THE ULTIMATE THRASH GUITAR PLAYER" Marty wasn't the best fit for

  • @LordVicRattlehead Megadeth, in my opinion Chris is because he was the only guitarist to say "hmm it's thrash metal so I should play like this" where as all of Megadeth's other guitar players had a more melodic approach to their playing. That being said Marty is a far superior composer and lead player compared to Al Pitrelli listen to TSO the best guitar player they ever had was Alex Skolnick. Alice Cooper fuck Orianthi whoops Pitrelli's ass, and she sucks.

  • @MartyFriedmanRulez66 In Megadeth I would say Dave Mustaine obviously. However that's not the point. Alex Skolnic is pretty good but it is clear you know nothing about Al Pitrelli. Do some research and look up all the bands he has been in and you'll see he is more than a metal guitarist, He can play well in any genre and has ALWAYS replaced a guitarist no one could be expected to live up to in bands. Such as Marty and Criss Oliva. Anyhow look up his work.

  • @LordVicRattlehead I don't feel the need to argue with you because we both seem equally as stubborn with our points, and equally as dedicated to our opinions. I will research more Pitrelli though.

  • who's in drums play fucking good

  • agh... terrible guitarist. terrible drummer. for megadeth anyway

  • @MegaRattlehead666 Hahahahahahaha, you'r so funny saying that...

  • @2fast5you why's that?

  • @MegaRattlehead666 How can you say terrible man?!

  • @2fast5you because compared to marty and nick they just don't fit in. pitrelli can't play other peoples solos and degrasso doesn't half half the skills to drum in megadeth. megadeth sounds best when everything is played rightor close to right. they are session musicians who don't cut it live. there is too much improvisations in attempt to cover up mistakes. thats how

  • @MegaRattlehead666 and even compared to gar samuelson and chris poland.

  • @MegaRattlehead666 Look man i dont know about the drums to much, but you cant say that Pitreli is terible for Megadeth, if you ask me i like more Pitreli, and i love he's improvisation.

  • @2fast5you but improvisation isn't right for megadeth. maybe a little but not as much as they do it.

  • @MegaRattlehead666 dude, Pitrelli has more than enough skill to play martys solos note for note and Degrasso played all the songs on this show flawlessly and with a good sound. Theres reaslly no point in being in a band and having to play another persons solos note for note. that gives you no identity as a guitarist. Which is one of my main gripes with Broderick. if your in a band and have to plays other peoples solos, its best to bring your style and stand out as unique.

  • @rampage222555 i didn't say they had to play it note for note, i said they shouldn't have improvised as much as they did. and Pitrelli is a crappy live guitarist and DeGrasso is more of a rock drummer than a metal drummer and plays everything like shit.

  • I got to meet Al Pitrelli the other night, he is a badass. lol

  • this guy is completely under rated as megadeth's guitarist

i PERSONALLY like his solos almost as much as marty's

  • ALL OF MEGADETH'S GUITARISTS ARE AMAZING! (lets hate on Hammett);)

  • I like that he keeps the essence of the solo but with his own style. perfect !

  • Chris is in no way the best. There no such thing as the best guitar player theres people who specialize in there style of playing and they might be the best in that certain style or genre but not be able to play much of anything else

  • gotta give the man respect for playing it on an explorer, they dont have the easiest upper fret access, and how low has he got it? I need it up by my chin to even play the easier parts of the solo

  • I really like all megadeth guitarrists my favorite is Dave Mustaine of course xDD but they were alll fking goood and I loved when Al Pitrelli was on Megadeth ^^

  • Marty, Pitrelli, Drover or Broderick they are excellent guitarrists, Stop saying thet Broderick sucks with he Megadeth have done EndGame and now Thirteen , 2 exclent albuns of Megadeth.

  • @cgabriel65 all those guitarist are better than mustaine

  • @cgabriel65 who told that about chris?? he's definetely not only the most skilled guitarist who has ever been in megadeth but the most skilled guitarist on earth!! the only reason he has ''haters'' is that he's not much time in megadeth but neither pitrelli nor drover had two perfect albums with megadeth. he plays everything perfect. and people, understand that he still has much future in front of him. imagine him staying as much as marty...

  • @MrDR7no lol Chris only has haters because people are jealous :')

  • @MrDR7no the most skilled on earth?trololololololol

  • @SitotiKurton marty is better than chris msically but chris owns marty technically, no1s completely better than the other, but marty contributed more to megadeth than chris imo

  • The real question is jimmy degrasso vs nick menza

  • @BallonkaSwe

what about Degrasso vs Menza vs Samuelson

  • @BallonkaSwe Jimmy is technically more proficient, but in the context of Megadeth's music and the time period, Nick fit Megadeth like a glove.

  • he reminds me of slash

  • Hey guys, let's argue about who plays it best!!!!

  • if Al Pitrelli had weared a hat, I would have asked "When did Slash join Megadeth and why did he use a kelly?".

  • @emirhanpc lol , it's not a kelly , it's an explorer ...

  • @emirhanpc

    It's actually a Gibson Explorer.

  • @emirhanpc thats an explorer,not a kelly

  • Marty should be back in Megadeth, thumbs up if you agree.

  • pitrellis the best but marty is the creator of this solo

  • his playing it with a low strap gibson explorer. holy shit dude.

  • @Mertketenci Yeah, best style!

  • Sick as fuck! Friedman, Broderick, Drover, Pitrelli, Poland...Man, Dave knows how to pick 'em!

  • THE BESTTTTTTTTTTTTTT TRY TO PLAY THIS WAY JAJAAJJ ASSHOLE

  • theres no doubt that Al can play this solo in the same way like on the record. but IMO he screwed sweep part

  • Marty is my favorite, but Broderick is a close 2nd just my opinion !!! Marty refuses to come back so I'm not all that sad !!! Broderick does the job no doubt

  • this is my favorite live line up of megadeth, pitrelli is amazing live, degrsso is a beast on the drums, junior rip out great sounds from the bass, and on this era the mustaine performances were the best (on guitar and vocals), and well... god is compare to dave mustaine but come on, he's great and all that, but he isn't dave mustaine

  • @konejo197666 I think Dave's best voice was during the time they recorded the That One Night DVD. Awesome vocal performance, although not as great on guitar (Due to him losing his left hand for a while, it took him a couple of years to regain his skill).

  • @Tarkess i disagree on that, yeah he made an incredible work with his hand problem, but the vocals in the that one night dvd wasn't that good, just need to hear reckoning day, he lost his grind half way through the show and he tried to switch up tones to en property the concert

  • @konejo197666 I guess it's all about opinion. I really like his vocals on that DVD, especially during Set the World Afire and She Wolf.

  • @Tarkess on that 2 his voice sounds fucking amazing i have to recognize that

  • Well i have to say this one ,if not better, played it at par with marty friedman...awesome improvization

  • Marty wrote this fuckin solo so... he wins!

  • Al Pitreli rules! play much but much better than Chris, Chris sound the notes like drown (like kirk hammet) and Pitreli sound with much feeling and technic. Pitreli is the best, Chris fuck!

  • @131313alejandro write respect to Chris Broderick, he suck! no Poland

  • @131313alejandro I like how you commented on your own comment. Poland is probably the best megadeth guitarist that is IMO

  • @zzzhuh lol poland has nothing on broderick.broderick is one of the most talented/technical players in the world today

  • @cromaticas I guess but Broderick can't do Poland's solo's nor does he have the vibrato Poland has. Plus Poland's solo's can be pointed out over millions of guitar players and Broderick's just seem to blend in, the whole tapping thing he does is nice but Poland's articulate style is something above and beyond what guitar players will reach in a life time.

  • @zzzhuh wait what?have you ever seen broderick play the solos in peace sells?there no1 that can play those solos note for note, live at least.i may agree on the vibrato i personally like friedman's more, but broderick is much more technical than those 2,by far

  • Al was good because of his personality that he used in Megadeth's solos but THIS solo is really full of mistakes.Chris is from another universe.

  • @Xardian7 WTF wich mistakes you r talking about !if u r talking about the changes he made this is his own interpretation ; Al is a very talented guitar player there's no question about it !!

  • this is so crisp, so beautiful compared to marty himself

  • Wow this guy is behind in time and everything. He would probally sound a lot better if he rose his fucking guitar and stopped trying to play low to look cool. Slash has that same problem that's why he sounds like ass sometimes. Only a rhythm guitarist can pull off playing a guitar low.

  • worst lineup

  • Personally I love Marty Friedman for his contributions to Megadeth and his natural talent but Al Pitrelli is a classically trained guitarist. Friedman is a self-taught. This guy is a machine just amazing. I think he was an amazing replacement and he is extremely underrated. That's just me though.

  • John Petrucci of Dream Theater makes all these guys look like 3rd graders. Petrucci kicks all these guys to teh curb. Pitrelli would be my 1st choice from teh group mentioned but lets talk about true talent here. Petrucci is way far ahead of any of these people.

  • al is better than chris broderick, chris poland is better than al, but marty is better than all . marty friedman rulezzz. thanks for this awesome solo marty....

  • @baranataman1

    Better in what?

Playing with " feeling" because they don' t have the technical skills like Chris to play it flawless?

Mustaine said that Chris is the best guitarist ever of megadeth and Dave is in the best position to judge this so end of the discussion.

  • @baranataman1 thats just a bunch of shit, aka the opinion of someone not educated.marty friedman is a good guitar player, but broderick is a lot better,A LOT BETTER.at least technically.

  • Rude Awakening Rock's \,,/

  • Al Pitrelli... Never seen a guy look that bored playing live... and Jimmy Degrasso kept changing the tempo, like in the last part of hangar 18... Worst line up Megadeth has ever had.

  • This video is right before Megadeth lost all feel and excitement. Broderick and Shawn are complete fucking robots and Dave needs to realize this SOON before Megadeth continues to play with no personality at all.

  • @Frostdaddy88 You need to realize that Dave said that when he met Chris, it was the same impact as when Ozzy Osbourne met Randy Rhoads (R.I.P. Randy).

He plays the songs better than anyone did. Jeff Young never wanted to do Chris Poland's stuff, and so on, and so on. David Ellefson said he jammed with Chris Broderick playing one of Chris Poland's songs and he said that when Chris Broderick played one of the riffs, that he could almost swear that is was Chris Poland playing it..Chris is a genius

  • no ones compares to friedman

  • Chris Broderick sucks compared to this shit.

Al is the shit, you can feel emotions, the phrasing and these bands are very tasty, not like wannabe robot Broderick's playing

  • People don't give al enough props. He nailed this solo better than any other guitar player since Friedman. He made that fucker sing. And he looks cool with a guitar. Friedman looked weird because of the way he had to hook his hand to build speed.

  • @Beholder505 I think you may be misinformed. Marty "hooked" his hand because he preferred to pick using an upstroke, so in order to start a run using an upstroke you need to reposition your hand to accommodate this technique. So therefore twisting your wrist so your hand is "hooked", and in your opinion making him look uncool while he is playing his guitar. I would like to see you adopt this playing style and even be remotely successful, let alone look "cool" while doing so.

  • @jordanmarcolin That doesn't make very much sense. First off, why would you ever want to start on the upstroke? Second, you don't need to hook your hand to start off with an upstroke. And even if you did, you wouldn't need to hook your hand to maintain your technique even if you chose to start on the upstroke. Third we're both wrong. He adopted this technique in the studio when he was recording his first solo album. He has someone lightly place their finger on the first fret to mute the strings

  • @jordanmarcolin or he places tape over the first fret. He explained this in an instructional vid I just saw that he made in the mid nineties. He said "This is one of my secrets, but that's ok, I'll let it out" and he continued to say that his right hand isn't fixed against the bridge. He floats. And the guy in the vid asked him "What do you do live then?" and he said he just adapts, and moves his wrist up string by string. Whichever he is on. But never did I say he sucked.

  • @jordanmarcolin I just said that it looked weird. Marty wrote some of the best solos Megadeth ever saw. And I have respect for him. But Al is underrated, and he looks awesome playing.

  • i think Pitrelli did an awsome job on this DVD!!

  • It's a goddamn solo. It means you can play it how ever you want it. It's sad that a lot in metal music guitarist play the solo always the same way. I think he did pretty good job keeping the original solo also in mid.

  • nice

  • He gives his touch to it, which I love... And it is a catch 22 situation... If he played it 100% like marty, people would hate him for being a copycat.

  • Lol.This is Tornado of souls solo?I swear I cant understand it is....Marty must cry when he hears the crap they do to his solo.

  • wtf?! this guy sucks :D

  • le sale bien culero,,,,,,,,,,,,a broderick si le sale casi igual ke a marty

  • alternate version of the solo!!! really u guys saying he sucks u dont know shit about guitar, this gu y did a really cool improvisation on the solo scale, u haters suck, go nd learn something so then u can criticize with real facts

  • @ChineseTOP absolutely agree man, this is 10 times better than Drover's version of this solo

  • @ChineseTOP i learned it and i play it better than him...i am not a hater, but when somethign is shit, i feel free to say its shit...thats all

  • Horrible.he could at least try to play it well...

  • Friedman wrote

    Broderick plays this in sleep

Drover plays this whit some missing notes

Pitrelli plays his other fuckin asshole something shit

  • No one is same marty

  • stop finding excuses....he ruined this amazing solo....I love Savatage, but this is just shit....thats all

  • @jimmyriesling You're right..

  • I mean, if he played the same exact solo as Friedman, we'd probably be giving him crap for not having any personality. Pitrelli's a solid guitar player. There was a reason why they picked him to replace Marty. His music isn't really my cup of tea (TSO, Alice Cooper, Savatage) but if you look at the guys track record, you can tell he's a great player. That chromatic line down is sloppy though, oh well.

  • I think one needs the 24th fret of the 1st string at one point (around 6 bars before the bridge) if you want to play this song perfectly, but an explorer only has 22... Hmmm...

  • Al Pitrelli is now in the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Still kickin' ass!

  • Noway does this guy play it better than Chris. Chris is the only one who comes close to Marty.

  • @Tazzerization i think chris' version is even better :)

  • @Tazzerization i second, chris is a robot and copycat

noone can make the lucretia solo sound boring like chris.

  • @Tazzerization chris' playing is stale and lifeless, thats was being a classical guitarist does to you

  • @Tazzerization well dave has stated that chris is the better guitar player

  • @Tazzerization what are you talking about comes close to marty? chrish plays it BETTER than marty

  • no mms q asko ese we no valia verga ¬¬

  • prefiero a marty o a cris jejeje no se porque se acomoda la guitarra muy abajo y muy awevo alcanza la guitarra xD

  • he looks like slash with an explorer

  • Marty adds the taste of Japanese ENKA to this solo.

A big choking and slide teq makes this song unique.

Too hard to make original feelings...

  • This was the end of an era of old megadeth.Al played so good in this concert, he did his job in the world needs a hero personally my fav album with youthanasia and so far so goo so what. Was good at he time, as chris now.

  • I liked the way Al played it, with his own style but respecting the core of the solo. I think Al is a great guitarrist, way better that Drover of Young.

  • Murdered the solo =/

  • CHris and marty definately play it the best

  • Worst guitar player Megadeth has had

  • He makes a nice posing while playing.

  • true not as clean as marty or broderick but he put his soul into it and thats what u play guitar with u r soul

  • @8582roy you play guitar with your fingers. Fact: Al Pitrelli CAN'T play the solo the way Marty wrote it. Chris can. That's the difference. The arpeggio at :58 is wrong, and the lick right after that is wrong. Al Pitrelli may be a good guitar player, but not for Megadeth. Same thing for DeGrasso. Nice drummer, okay solo in 'wolf', but you need a metal drummer for a metal band. Too many Rock Band-esque fills from him.

  • you name it - one of the best solos ever... i still prefer the original version on RiP though

  • Lord, Jimmy DeGrasso is so tight and yet so groovy....

  • i'd rather watch someone play someone elses solo with a personal touch than replicating it soullessly like that robot broderick. yeah it's like listening to the studio version, but where's the fun in that?

  • well mustaine is better then marty, boderick, hammet, drover, young, pitrelli and poland, and the best megadeth solo is my last words

  • @FlatMetal22 oh yes last words as a kick ass solo

  • @FlatMetal22 you are batshit crazy if you think mustaine is better then broderick, marty, or polland. he is better than hammet and drover...but pitrelli is arguable. pull your head out of your ass please and thank you.

  • @mmburton1

Joel McIver's book also said that...

  • @mmburton1 hes not as good as drover either...he was a super solid player...Al had to go

  • @screat Drover abused the neck pickup

  • @FlatMetal22

Mustaine better than marty, broderick or broderick?

    i lold

  • I dedicate this post to the 2 boneheads: 'Anarchyffan' and '@BlackPlek' who obviously know less than zip about playing guitar, stating: 1) 'He fucked up so many times...' and 2) 'I think hammet is 50 times better than chris broderick'. Firstly, Where exactly did Al mess up? Give all the instances + precise times. Secondly, Hammett isn't in the same dimension as Chris Broderick let alone competing with him. Think b4 u post! Everyone is entitled to an opinion - - unless they talk complete shite.

  • He fucked up so many times...

  • My opinion on Megadeth guitarrists:

1.- Friedman : He is the man,...nice solos, unique style.

2.- Pitrelli: Way underrated, cool guy, played solos nicely with a tocuh of his style and lot sof feeling.

3.- Broderick: Best Technique, zero feeling, too mechanichal.

4.- ChrisPoland: NIce player, cool style.

    5.- Jeff Young: cool style.

6.- Chris Poland, zero stage presence. Good guitarist, just didn´t fit Megadeth music.

  • @TheVicHardy

wait a minute there, Chris Poland is your nº4 and 6, one of those 2 has to be Drover right? which one is it?

  • @TheVicHardy My bad...numer 6 is Glenn Drover

  • @TheVicHardy if chris broderick got zero feeling than rusty cooley has minus 15!! i hate shredders..

  • Pitrelli kick ass and he looks cool with that explorer guitar, he played this hard solo his way and he did nicely....way better than Drover, with more feeling that Broderick but nit as good as Friedman.

  • holy crap he totally screwed up the solo i feel bad for him he was on a tremendous amount of pressure at every concert he would never play the solos right and even dave said he had to kick him out of the band because of that.....now we have the second best guitarist megadeth has ever had marty is first chris broderick is second

  • Maybe his playing is not as clean as Marty's or Brockerick's, but to say he didn't put feel or soul in this solo is stupid, sorry. Pay a little more attention to it while listening, he has a great control over the tone and matches the bendings and vibratos perfectly (listen to Hammett or to 95% of the youtube shredders if you want to know how NOT to play guitar referring feel and soul).

  • @BlackPlek i think hammet is 50 times better than chris broderick. Al is a guitar legend like marty is!

  • Marty Freidman will always do tha solo better since he was the one who made it in the firts place, but Chris Broderick is great at that solo. The one thing Al Pitrelli does not do is put feel into his solos. But it was still OK.

  • why is everyone hating on pitrelli? Its no fun to go to a show and see exact studio copies. Pitrelli added his own style to the solo and it turned out awesome.

I dont think Polands tone would fit this solo very much

  • @rampage222555 Poland can play this solo, and he uses only 3 fingers. One thing is to play it your own way, other thing is to fuck up the solo. Even Drover played this better than Pitrelli, people overrate Al because he's more famous. One demostration of playing a solo by your own way without fucking it up, is on the Box Set that Megadeth released on 2007. Check In My Darkest Hour in the 4th CD, it's a live track, Marty changed the whole solo, and it's still awesome.

  • @MadeWithMetal Didnt say Poland couldnt play the solo, I said his tone wouldnt really fit the solo. Polands tone sounds like he dunks the tone knob and has no reverb * i said it sounds*. I actually liked this version better than Drovers, but that was awesome too. Pitrelli didnt fck up the solo at all, it sounds awesome. Pitrelli is actually underrated. The Dread and Fugitive Mind was one of the best solos in the Megaddeth arsenal. Im not hating on anybody, lol.

  • @rampage222555 That's a good point because Poland's tone is for Blues. I actually find this version weird, because Marty teached Al how to play his solos before leaving, and he ruined the arpeggios of this version. Drover followed only his techniques (which aren't good enough) and followed more of the melody of this solo than Al did. Of course Al is underrated, but he's overrated in many cases only for being more famous. Whatever, I didn't want to seem a hater hehe LOL.

  • all I can say is: wtf?

  • @xy1p33y0x Makes me wonder if Poland could pull it off? It'd be awesome to hear him add a little jazz flair to it, methinks.

  • @emphaticleech poland can do it 4 sure dude!!

  • @crungen5 I love Poland...but I doubt he can do it note for note. As I said though...a neat version with some jazz flair would be nice to hear, though. And if he can do it note for note...well we may have another Django Reinhardt in the world. :)

  • He was the worst guitarst in megadeth...

But still better than kirk hammet!

  • @jiiomg my dog tied up is better than kirk

did u see that video which kirk mistakes st anger's shitty riffs?!

    omg

  • well he most definitely messed it up!!! no one can play like marty or chris!!!!

  • I like Al Pitrelli way more than the next fatass they had and yes including chris. chris is great but to mechanical. this guy moves his fingers like butter

  • Is that really Broderick in the crowd?

  • I think IMO they should of kept this line up, great guitarist and drummer, post Rust in peace line up

  • che Al Pitrelli ? E' mica freedman ?

  • I really like the way Al plays this solo, i like it better than chris playing

i mean, chris is a machine and whatever, but i can't take his lack of soul and feeling,

  • @ryurik28 Totally agreed! Al puts a little bit of himself into the solo which makes it more unique to him. And while Chris can nail the solo better, he sounds very robotic. Which is why I much prefer Marty over him, even though he's techically better than Marty. xD

  • in dave new book he accuses al of not knowing the material. and thats the reason this and other parts are not the same

  • haha soloing with explorer....good

  • that was a beautiful bend.

  • Comment removed

  • @xy1p33y0x

Meh Chris is a way better guitarist than all of them and Chris can play the solo without a single mistake while even Marty sometimes didn't, but Marty plays this particular solo better because its a Marty solo, no explaination needed :P.

  • @Brutalyeah, have you heard the new Rust in Peace live cd? I actually laughed how bad Broderick played martys solos there. And in additon he had no feeling. Al here made his own version of the solos which is great

  • @MikaelLV

I think Broderick did a good job, he is one of the best guitarists I know and ofc its harc to add Marrty's style to it but he's such a great guitarist... just listen to Downward Fall, a song he wrote. You will change your mind for sure...

  • well he is better than glover and put more feeling that broderick

  • Degrasso is better drummer than Drover. He is more poerfull . But the best is MENZA!
