  • What great memories. I was a huge RS fan and went to see them all over the UK and Ireland. Regards to your Dad and Uncles. Didn't they have shiny hair. Is Colin the Dad of Liam from One Direction?

  • With the great Ian Mitchell!

  • 懐かしい!

  • Awesome !!!Hey facebook Sk8 Planet Earth and check out some skateboards from the future

  • I heard Tam Paton had it off with Damian.

  • Lead singer seems to be enjoying himself and has a decent voice, drummer seems rather "chipper", the other 3 seem to be a bit "stiff" and self-conscious. But decent video. I like to choose videos randomly and watch even if I have never heard of the group (which is the case with this one). So this is the uncles and father of one of the comment-posters? Must be proud of dear old dad and the others. Did they continue with the music?

  • I was looking for the Goth band called Rosetta Stone, but these are ok!

  • Thanks so much for this! This takes me back to a very happy place in my life. I've looked for years hoping to find something from Rosetta Stone. What a beautiful surprise.

  • Brilliant, Conhuir. I love watching all these archive videos - especially music ones from the UK. It makes me smile when I look back. Thank you for sharing.

  • I saw your dad and the band in Finland late -70's in Tulivuori-rock Lappajärvi. Hope he remember a little girl with Rock Pictures record... I got autograph on my record =)

    Love <3

  • 超なつかし~!

    偶然コレ見つけました。

    中学の時、ラジオでよく聴いた覚えがあります。

    映像を見るのは初めてです。

    こういう人たちだったんだ。

    いい曲だと思います。

  • Oh man, I had this album this song was on virtually til I got married...!

Thank you for putting this on...do your dad and uncles still have a band or did they move onto other things? And they are frozen in my mind as well, never mind we're probably all the same age (I'm now 53) now.

This makes me young again:) Thank you.

  • This band takes me back. I was a big fan of the Bay City Rollers and then heard about Rosetta Stone. Thanks for bringing back some great memories.

  • Oh wow...I loooooved this band....thanks so much for posting---which one is your Dad? I still remember...Damian, Colin and Terry..right?

  • I won this record at a fete in the 80s. Probably still got it somewhere! I never knew it was a cover version, in fact at that age I probably didn't even know what a cover version was. Of course, that was back in the days when I thought Iron Maiden were amazingly original and Kylie Minogue wrote "The Locomotion"!

  • Hated this lot, Roller , Slik etc. Boy bands before Louis Walsh invented the genre.

  • I saw this guys in North Bay, Ontario. Canada in the late 70's. Thanks for the memories.

  • I have been a fan of Rosetta Stone since the 70's & I still listen to their music. My favorite was & is still Terry.

  • Really !? Oh My God !! Rosetta Stone is the BEST !

  • lol I used to love these when I was young saw them in Southport

  • @conhuirmckee

I`m sooo glad & happy now....!!!

I`m nearly 53 years old/YOUNG,-living in Germany and:

Never, never I could forget this very nice sounding melody and name of this brillant song: IF PARADISE IS HALF AS NICE !

What I forgot was the name of the band.

But I remember that the band members were wearing these army shirts.

This is still a very ,very good song ! REAL POP-MUSIC !!

Tell this your dad and your uncles !!

  • thought rosetta stone was a goth band

  • I pulled this album out and listened to it the other day! Good times! Thanks for sharing the video! Which one is your dad? Tell him thanks for the music! ; )

  • Why do these pretty boys sing with fake American accents? Aren't they supposed to be paddies?

  • PnisHead, how'd you find this vid? Nobody forced you to come here.

And, yeah, they're Irish, while you sound like a Chav.

  • 私は彼らの曲で

    ♪Sunshine of your love♪を知りました

  • OMG! Colin! I loved him more than thirty years ago. lol.

They were so famous in Japan at that time.

  • Is that Les McKeown's brother on lead vocals or did he just do a good job mimicing him, moved the same way, all his mannerisms?

  • Toooder, the singer's Damian McKee. He & Ian Mitchell had been friends since childhood. And, yeah, he sounds quite a bit like Les.

  • Great to listen to this again. Remember your dad and uncles well Conmuir. And have great memories of beinf in Down patrick early 80's.

  • Dads and Uncles?? PJ Mcabe where are you now?? You wre a Nephew!!

  • Beats fishing! Strangford Loch!! is That true?

  • love this song ,great memories ,love 1970s when i was a kid

  • Thank goodness Punk and The Clash came to reclaim RnR and give it a much needed kick in the arse. The repercussions are still reverberating to this day. Joe Strummer-RIP!

    A true powerpopper as well,A.

  • Did rosetta ever have a single that was'nt a cover version , over to the experts

  • Maybe some of their later, post-Ian, singles weren't covers, although by then they were covering early Bryan Adams quite a bit (Remember, Hiding from Love, Straight from the Heart)

  • OMG i remeber this, and to my age group the tag it's friday it's 5 to 5 and it's crackerjack is legendary.

  • Boy, these guys have attitude :)

  • Well, I love this video, and this song!!!! How absolutely awesome they were!

  • PS: I love pretty boys.

  • Comment removed

  • Weren't they managed by Bay City Rollers manager Tam Paton? He had a thing for young prettty boys, as I recall.

  • Dont get jealous

  • Jealous of a 20 stone pervert who lost GBP 200,000 for dealong dope? Sure.

  • Tam died a month or two ago - I found that out on The Dead Rock Stars Club site.

  • didnt know tam had gone, wot was it?

  • Tam died of a heart attack - or so they say on Wikipedia.

  • i went on that site you quoted and it said he went of heart attack in march i think, cant remember the month now.

  • Tam was a good friend of mine and I will miss him dearly.

  • When did they go Gothic??

  • Different band you are thinking of there, I think...

  • Hello basscadet, tell your uncle Damian greetings from me from Germany, Rosetta Stone, we miss here in Germany.

  • The singer is my uncle!

  • wenn ich mir den Damian so anschaue dann kommen schöne Erinnerungen zurück....jeder wollten ihn Heiraten... Ich AUCH Ich Liebe Dich Damian, auch heute noch.

  • Ian is the one with the brown shirt on.

  • I met the guys at my local town hall and got their autographs they were lovely and Ian is in the video he is at the end with the dark hair. this video brings memories.

  • wow i remember this song...great! i was 15years old!!

  • We're Irish, and was alot of American cities not built with the help of the Irish? i.e. New York

  • @conhuirmckee It wasn't just the northern US cities that the Irish settled. The Irish helped established cities all over the country. In my area, itn eht southern US, the Irish dominated the area.

  • @brennieb64 I live in northern Alabama and we have tons of Irish surnames in this area. My maternal grandmother was a Carney before marrying. Lot of Scots and Irish came in through the Carolinas and eastern Tennessee and settled there and further South.

  • @SusanWillingham I know what you mean. My own family is LOADED with Irish ancestry. Almost without exception, my family heritage is from Belfast and Bangor. As far back as I can trace my roots, everyone comes from one of those two places.

  • 1978ish?. I bought the 7inch of this. Thanks for putting it up.

    Crackerjack....

  • They were all so cute back then! I have both their albums and now have them on CD (which I bought from Ian's merchandise when I met him 2 years ago).

  • Mann o Mann!

  • bloody ell ...love it!! xxxdeborah xx

  • Very funny! And Tam wanted to replace Damian with Limahl (later of Kajagoogoo) 'cause he was such a "rebel". Wonder if they even played on this recording...seems like they (esp. Terry on drums) don't even know how to mime to the song.

  • i had no idea about Limahl! haha Thanks for sharing that. :)

  • Is Ian in this? Tam Patton also managed this band?

  • LIMAHL?? You gotta be kidding!!

  • my favorite Rosetta Stone song! love it! thanks for posting!!! LOVE IAN MITCHELL!! ;-)

  • Oh I loved this song and I bought their album and played it to death. Do you know if it will ever be released on CD? I'd love to get it cuz I loved them when I was a teenager and looking at this video brings back so many memories, especially of their pictures hanging on my bedroom walls. If you have any other videos please could you post them. I dug out their album that was released here in the US just to look at it again and remembering the songs! Tell your Dad and uncles I still love them!

  • they were right on the cusp of punk rock,so this kind of pretty boy band were on the way out,it was like the very last vestiges of glam rock, fading to make way for all the punk and new wave bands , i truelly wish they had gone that way! they had more talent than the BCR:

  • Good to see Rosetta Stone again after 30 years!!! I never imagined I would be watching them again now!!! They sound fantastic!

  • Conhurimckee: This is so AWESOME that Damian is your dad, and Colin and Terry are your uncles. I agree with another post here, that in my mind, these guys will always be teenagers. Could you possibly put a photo here on YouTube of the 3 of them NOW?? I loved Rosetta Stone, esp. Ian, and if I'd been one of those girls sitting there, I would have been in a dead faint, sitting three feet from him like that. (Gotta love those bowl haircuts).

  • Hey Conhuir...what are the guys in the band doing these days? They sure were cuties back then!

  • Incredible!!

    thanks to this video.

    When I was highschool

    From japan

  • I remember being kinda shocked to know that Damian was already married and had a kid(s) when this single was released! Of course it wasn't made public, thanks to Tam the Slime.

Damian was such a good looking and talented singer who loved singing. Hope he is happy and content now. Thanks for this upload! :)

  • what do you mean tam the slime? Have you ever met the man? Tam is a good guy

  • Maybe he is now but In 1982 he was convicted of gross indecency with teenage boys, and went to jail for a year for it. He was actually sentenced to three years.

  • it was actually in 1981 he was convicted. Please remember the age of consent was 21 in 1981 . He was with a 18year old man and that would be legal now

  • He DID get £180000 back you obviosly dont know that much about him.

  • No he didn't. He paid £20,000 as a fine and the other £180000 had to be paid to the court as PROCEEDS OF CRIME. And how could it be proceeds of crime unless he admitted to dealing as well as possession. You don't seem to know much about what happened in the court do you?

If dealing drugs, sleeping with star struck teen boys desperate to get a pop career and spending time in jail for sexual assault of minors is OK - then fine - your moral judgements are truly in line with Paton's.

  • Hey,

    Cheers for the nice comments...

Damian is my Dad, Colin and Terry are my uncles

  • Please tell your dad and uncles how much they are appreciated for making my adolescent years a very nice memory. I loved them soooo much! :)

  • conhuir, which one is your dad? i was crazy about rosetta stone in the 70's. thanks for this.

  • Hey,

    Cheers for the nice comments...

Damian is my Dad, Colin and Terry are my uncles.

  • you have an awesome dad. it's hard for me to imagine him older, somehow in my head he's stuck forever at the age he is in this video, even tho i have a 20 year old son. lol, weird, huh?

  • Hahaha, this is not the Rosetta Stone I was expecting *adjusts goth goggles*

  • i was surprised that there are (were) two bands called rosetta stone. i didn't know about the hard rock one only this one.

  • LOL, those that like the Rosetta Stone I know don't come out in the daylight ;-)
