the mountain dew has been opened, since it does not produce nearly as much co2 as a fresh bottle of soda would, therefore it must contain diphenyl oxalate which reacts with the hydrogen peroxide to create phenol and peroxyacid which decomposes to produce light and co2...the baking soda might react with the peroxyacid if the hydrogen peroxide didnt oxidize it first so the baking soda doesnt do crap
