@prjerry7 Well, as usual, your assumptions are wrong. I was, in fact raised in the catholic church and as a typical youth went to church every Sunday, attended religious education, again, every Sunday, and "observed" the so-called sacraments on a regular basis. The fact that 159 million AMericans claim to identify with christian institutions is indicative of our moral, educational and economic decline. Very early on in my life I recognized religious dogmatism for what it was....
@perfectbark You generalize the Christian religion with catholicism. The catholic church is very ritualistic but thats nothing bad. Your assumption on religions effect on USA is ridiculous. USA economy by the end of 2010 grew 3.1% while EU's grew a mere .8%, yet a higher % of Europeans consider themselves atheists. Our high crime rate is immoral but i wouldn't blame religion for it. You, an atheist, are misinformed yet i'm open minded enough to know atheism isn't the cause of your ignorance.
@prjerry7 listen fella. We may disagree on the existence of an omniscient omnipotent deity, but with two advanced degrees I am in a far different place than what you refer to as ignorance. Ignorance, by way of example, is the exploitation by televangelists of pathetic religious people and that is if fact not only immoral but criminal.
@perfectbark its a falsity to associate knowledge [not ignorant] with college degrees, im not trying to insult u but it was very ignorant of you to assume Religion is insignificant in the 21st century, to associate US high Christianity with our supposed economic troubles [yet we are out competing the Eurozone, an economy of a more atheist peoples] was ignorant, as is your narrow-minded view on peoples simply based on their faith. Im not against theism or atheism, im against baseless intolerance.
no, to assume that religion is truth is a "falsity." And, unfortunate for humanity, religion is far too significant an influence in the 21st century. Graduate degrees equate to knowledge and in most cases at least, an ability to parse fact from fantasy;
We are, in fact, losing well paying, high tech jobs that demand a well educated populous to ASIA. Europe suffered many centuries ago from religious zealotry, and in many cases is more advanced than us in many sectors including energy.
@perfectbark Don't put words in my mouth, iv never stated religion is truth, iv only said its got its constructive use [i can bring you countless examples if youd like].
Religion doesn't have to be intolerant, i know plenty of catholics who are if anything an example for the rest of us. Unfortunately, intolerance has always existed, i know of theist & atheist peoples who are destructive, intolerant & hypocritical. Religion, like science, has been used for constructive & destructive purposes.
See the documentary Jesus Camp if you so believe that religion is of constructive use in modern day society. Consider the ancillary damage to children in a non-sexual way. It can be found here on youtube in 9 parts. Enjoy.
@perfectbark Documentary's are not valid sources of information, just look at Michael Moores documents, though i will look at the document when i have time.
Religion has always been a refuge for the poor [though most are ignorant & truly indifferent of religious holybooks], unfortunately many have used religion for destruction [through desperate poor people], look at the mid. east hell [though many muslims are good people]. Christianity has had its own ugliness as has science & technology [war].
and ya know ..... whenever I encounter a religious zealot here or elsewhere on the internet it never ceases to amaze me how you guys feign victimization whenever a rational non-believing Atheist calls you on your bullshit myths. This applies to ALL religions but by far the worst are pious sanctimonious hubristic muslims and the christians. Hubris ..... will bring all of you guys down in the end.
@perfectbark Hubris is something every animal can have, the cold war was full of hubris, religion had minimal to do with it, science & technology had much [space race, arms buildup].
Every1 has problems, some refuge on a drug [anti-depressant, alcohol], others in religion [doesnt have 2 be destructive] & others just quit.
Religion has inspired humanitarian efforts like redcross & salvation army foundation. One of my cousins is a nun, you can NOT tell me religion has made her a dumb/bad person.
the fact that your cousin is wasting her life is indeed very, very sad. Hubris is a uniquely human characteristic. again ..... see the documentary Jesus Camp where hubris is copiously manifest as an exemplar.
@perfectbark my cousin does humanitarian efforts internationally, she's a professor in theology but sometimes cant teach when shes called to do humanitarian efforts abroad. Shes a very educated & peaceful women thanks to many things including her faith. Shes allot of things but very very very sad is not one of them.
Hubris, like every word, changes definition with time, today it is mostly coined to define arrogance & extreme high self-esteem, it is not uniquely human.
interesting, the theology professor I had for an elective was a former minister turned atheist. and I also find it interesting that theists always seem to want to believe that our children are being molested in public schools where they are surrounded by mandated reporters and where teachers and staff are subjected to mandatory criminal background checks. What is it about the religion industry that promulgates these myths?
@perfectbark i don't depend on churches and im not catholic, the falsity in all of your logic is that you think the only religious institution is the catholic church.
I'v seen dozens of young atheist turn christian when the going gets tough, its their refuge, iv also met many great people who are religions and atheist and many bad people that are religious and atheist.
I, unlike you, dont simplify peoples by categorizing them on ANYTHING [race, religion, etc].
since when does the religion industry actually deal in reality? The fact is that I hold all religious institutions in equal disdain with particular disgust for ALL orthodoxy.
@perfectbark When does the church deal with reality? poverty is a reality & the institutions with most humanitarian efforts are the churches, if thats disgusting for you then you should look in the mirror to see true filth.
religion ..... is an industry, and a self-promoting, self-serving one at that. It has always exploited those who are less fortunate, less informed, desperate, fallen on bad times, etc. And as a secular humanist who works in education I have no need to explore other non-judeo christian religions simply because I do not believe in the supernatural.
and ZEALOTS always resort to ad hominems. Now go off an be a good boy and get on you knees and pray to your little friend.
@perfectbark false, religion is not a self serving industry, ill use Christianity as example; the churches only source of cash is the 10% they collect, in the new testament [& many churches today practice this] the 10% of cash collected is used for humanitarian effort, to help the needy. Sure, corruption exists, iv seen pastures wearing Rolex, but i have catholic family who if anything are an example.
Don't categorize all religious institutes in the greedy bag, stereotyping is simple-minded.
As you continue to defend your religion take the time to read The Lost Child of Philomena Lee by Martin Sixsmith. If you haven't rejected the morally bankrupt catholicism by then there is no hope for you as a member of the human race.
@perfectbark Iv read your book, its a tragedy of a boy who is put under adoption in America by the catholic church, sad story but theres nothing christian about it except a few corrupt egoistic nuns who think their christian.
Still, if this kind of story makes you think so bitterly about religion i advice you to travel & meet some people from different religious sects, having a point of view on something so extensive from such a narrowe source is ignorant.
we obviously have very different ideas about what does or does not accurately represent christianity. I again remind you of my catholic education and upbringing. And I have met many people in my 57 years from many christian sects, and yes, many of them are nice people, up to the point that is where they impose religious dogma upon my secular government and public policy. I give you Rick Perry, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman and the rest of the religious zealots participating in the
@perfectbark Christian means Christ-like, Christ meaning the famous Jesus of Nazareth, these nuns were NOT like Jesus and the Catholic church is NOT the measuring tool of being christian [Christ like].
Your argument is ridiculous, thats like me saying i don't like science because Mikhail Timofeyevich Kalashnikov used science to designed a weapon that has killed millions.
As i previously stated, religion should be used for good as should science but unfortunately thats not always the case.
well, Kalashnikov wasn't a scientist so this suggestion is somewhat of a non sequitur. Religion functions on faith, specifically in something that is unprovable, and based in belief in the supernatural. Religion is arguably responsible for a great deal of human pain and suffering and history certainly proves that.
Catholicism is frequently and fittingly negatively reported in the world press. But pentecostals and evangelicals fly below the radar in America. See the documentary Jesus camp.
Kalashnikov used science [which means knowledge] to make the ak47 design cheap, effective & durable, science was also used to make nuclear & chemical weapons, still, science like religion can be used for good.
Catholic church is the most extensive institution ever used to carry out humanitarian efforts. Catholic church gets attention in the media because of how contradictory terrible acts are with its purpose, molestation in schools [more frequent] don't get much attention.
and these nuns and many other catholic clerics in Ireland and America at the time were, in fact, trusted by those who believed in the image and "holiness" of the church of rome, perhaps historically the greatest christian influence of all time.
Faith means believing without seeing, SOME religions function on faith, billions of people with no RATIONAL hope take refuge in religion during hard times & many times they wither the storm thanks to their irrational faith that some holy order in the universe will give them justice.
I repeat, religion can be used for good & for bad, as can science, etc.
Don't allow narrow minded brainwashing documentaries, books or news build your opinion on religion, go out &see 4r yourself
Dogmatism is the enemy, and in the US the dogmatism associated with the dummies in the fringe of the religious right will be our final demise. Religious zealotry is not baseless, it is in fact the enemy to hope, and a detriment to progressive ideologies where solutions reside rather than antediluvian myths. Pray all you want, you and your associates will never be able to pray your way out of the messes you create.
@perfectbark Please don't compare USA to Europe, the average American wins almost $10,000 more yearly then the average European, our best higher education institutions outnumber their whole continents, our economy is out-competing Europe's. Your association with religion & economics is naive & narrow-minded. Some of the fastest growing economies today [BRIC [China depends on def.]] are highly religious nations.
Some of the most educated people iv met are highly religious [& not intolerant].
well, it is a well established fact that China's economy will exceed ours within a few short years, sometime in 2015 I believe. I am aware of the influence of religion on humanity, all I am saying is that it is a shame that these myths still prevail in the 21st century. In my world, academia, I don't see religion as a factor at all so I disagree with you.
@perfectbark Dont be over hyped with Chinas current growth, Japan was in the exact same position in the 90's & Germany in the 70's [both almost surpassed USA gdp], imo Chinas gdp will surpass ours temporarily but they have titan problems like their population hunger [this is why they cant spend as much on military even though they currently have a surplus] & when their post 1baby per family generation retires their economy will see hell, possibly worse then the USSR in the 80's.
the 1 child policy applies only to urban dwellers in eastern china, not to farming families in western china including the communities in the Tibetan plateau. as I am sure that you are aware, china has serious water quality issues as well as other very serious environmental issues. Like the US, she has become a population of nouveau riche consumers that will likely decline as they exceed 1.4 billion. time will tell, but we do agree that her growth is not sustainable.
@perfectbark Chinas growth is not sustainable because of their consumption but because of international consumption, their filling the little gaps that are left in production [external consumption puts its limit].
USA is not declining, heres a valid source where you can see growth; w w w . trading economics . c o m, look up USA gdp growth. If anything i advice you to put $ into walstreet.
Chinas population will plumit, their already complaining, itll be babyboomer social security debt on roids
and I am not intolerant of religion. Believe what you want as long as it is keep your filthy gutter religion out of my secular government and public policy.
@perfectbark We are losing high-tech jobs to mostly India because of the low wages their professionals require as pay, NOT because of lack of specialist in our part [some of the 10% unemployed are very educated]. This ''problem'' is also happening in EU, you'd be surprised how religious some of those Indians r.
The world is losing jobs to China because of their low waged high work force & monetary undervalue practice which is illegal. I will admit, our pro-life agenda slowed our M-cell research
and the catholic church in particular is home if not refuge to thousands of pedophile catholic clerics. Evangelicals on the other hand are represented by moral bankruptcy of another kind in the form of its Ted Haggard having sex with a homosexual prostitute and sucking on a meth pipe while wagging his finger at others he referred to as sinners. Pitiful...... just pitiful.
@perfectbark No institution [catholic church] on earth is perfect due to the imperfection of its managers/employees, public schools are not immune. The catholic pedophiles are hypocrites & immoral trash, as are any other pedophiles from any other institution. Don't blame their filthiness on the Christian doctrine [Christian=Christ-like, Christ refers to Jesus of Nazareth, the only narratives about this man puts him at odds with these pedophiles].
that's weather the storm ...... and again you make assumptions. Very early on in my life I recognized that religion, in my particular case, catholicism, was rife with inconsistencies. I can't say that I've had a negative experience per se with religion, the brothers who taught religion were nice people, it was the message that I recognized early on as institution self-promotion and mythological and nothing more.
I teach science courses at a college part time that has catholic roots but has a secular mission and board of directors.
You don't have to look too far to see problems with religion including its genesis. As I've gone though life the observations made as a youth have been supported by the immoral behavior of religion itself. I don't believe in UFOs for the same reason that I don't believe in supernatural deities. So I don't know what storm is being withered [sic] but just because
so many believe in the existence of a supernatural; power doesn't make it so. When ancient people couldn't explain an observed phenomenon they turned to the supernatural, it's the way our brains evolved. We shouldn't be resorting to mythology to explain the unexplainable in the 21st century and this is what I find most disturbing as humanity approaches 7 billion. It's simply lazy to resort to mythology over reason ..... and THAT, my friend, is ignorance.
@perfectbark Your speaking of the typical ‘’does it exist or not’’ argument which leads to nowhere, its out of context, my argument is about the utility of religion not only in the 21st century but throughout human history [which in many cases has been the same].
Ill send you an old personal message I send so you can meditate on it.
Also, use google to find valid sources on child molestations in public schools, im sure you’ll be surprised.
and further you delusional old fool, there is not a single country in the world where the catholic church has a presence where children haven't been abused and neglected by catholic clerics.
Write The Hague Criminal Court Prosecutor re Crimes Against Humanity of Pope. A prosecutor at The Hague will soon decide whether to pursue criminal charges against Joseph Ratzinger (aka the “Pope”) especially in light of epidemic of pedophilia among Catholic Priests. Go to cityofangels11.blogspot.com for more info and for address of Prosecutor at The Hague to send your evidence - Source: City of Angels Blog by Kay Ebeling
all I know is that the catholic church are not Christian and never were. People who follow it including my wife are sadly deceived and brainwashed into praying to demons thinking they're otherwise. Hint. Nuns and Popes aren't mentioned in the bible nor any Jewish writings. Those who read bibles with books starting with "Saint" you have to beware of the content of what's inside cause it's been changed by the Vatican to deceive the world.
Lutherans, Mormans and pentecostal wackos aren't mentioned in the bible either. The point is, that religion in all of its incarnations is a contrivance of man, and nothing more. If you read the bible as literature you will see that it is a collection of parables written in the allegorical discourse of the time. In other words .... relgion is a myth, a contrivance of man in attempt to explain the unexplainable mysteries before man became enlightened. get over it.
@perfectbark i wouldnt say the Bible is ONLY that, its got lots of wisdom in its verses, its 66 books of the development of the Hebrew nations & eventually Christianity.
Religion is also a way to become enlightened, a way to make life more bearable for many. EVERY1 has problems in life, for many religion is a refuge [& for others drugs like anti-depressants or cocaine].
Religion has also been the powerfullest tool in history for carrying out humanitarian efforts internationally [S.A., Red cross]
the bible is an allegorical representation of cooperative and altruistic behavior that is represented in other species in the animal kingdom. Beyond that and you are deluding yourself as to the relevance and value of the bible in the 21st century.
@perfectbark Some of the most intelligent peoples iv met are deeply religious, this includes doctors, biologists, astrologist and many other professionals or form of person's society considers illustrated. Concluding that religion suppresses intelligence, creativity & free thought is nothing short of narrow-minded.
The old testament is NOT altruistic, the new testament patronizes it but again, your feeble conclusion of what the Bible is demonstrates your lack of knowledge on the subject.
@perfectbark Funny cause science tries to explain things and honestly never really can. With religion Especially Christianity. There's a lot of evidence that the bible is very true. of course it would take someone willing to do a even half butt job of research to understand and find the evidence which is everywhere, from Turkey, Israel , Egypt to southern parts of Africa. The reason you don't get it is cause you take it as a story rather than a manual. Truth, every myth has truth to it.
the archdiocese of Wilmington, DE tried to file for bankruptcy to protect its assets. Recently it settled for something like $77 million in yet another string of molestation lawsuits. The fact that it tried to protect it's assets and prevent victims from recovering damages speaks to the real morality of the vatican. What a vile institution. Saving embryos while molesting living, breathing children. Pitiful.
quite the opposite. Like your pontiff, you only care to protect your vile religion and its institution. The church prevented these thousands of clerics from being indicted and prosecuted by the PEOPLE's criminal justice system through elaborate cover-ups.
The molestation that occurred in BSA was prosecuted and convicted in COURT. All you care about is your filthy religion and protecting your c hurch .... not different than the man wearing the red Prada loafers.
you're parsing words to diminish the severity of the crimes committed by thousands of priests upon thousands of BOYS over most of the last century in every single country where the catholic church has a presence. These are crimes against humanity that ruined the lives of children as the moved through life and became adults.
Your church is an evil, criminal enterprise .... always has been.
that's a little harsh my friend. akin to the religious zealots who want to bomb women's health clinics and assassinate physicians who avail themselves to medical abortion services.
considering the fact that there have been over 70 million spontaneous or "god" abortion over the last decade alone I'd say that your deity is a real prick. save the embryos, who cares about living breathing children
@perfectbark Don't be a prick. You claim us to be ignorant, but calling God supernatural is insulting. You can have your beliefs, but don't be a prick about them and then call Christians ignorant.
I'm not singling out any religion in particular. They're all rubish and contrivances of man. And, there will never be peace in the world until religion, in all of its incarnations, goes extinct, as all religions eventually do. This is the 21st century, isn't it about time we reject this supernatural nonsense and look at the world with an educated perspective ? Religion is archaic, anteluvian, and frankly downright evil with the worse being filthy, ignorant christians and muslims.
This is America, that means that we have freedom of religion, but we shouldn't impose our religion on other people, nobody's perfect.

Im not against theism or atheism, im against baseless intolerance.
prjerry7 8 months ago
@prjerry
no, to assume that religion is truth is a "falsity." And, unfortunate for humanity, religion is far too significant an influence in the 21st century. Graduate degrees equate to knowledge and in most cases at least, an ability to parse fact from fantasy;
We are, in fact, losing well paying, high tech jobs that demand a well educated populous to ASIA. Europe suffered many centuries ago from religious zealotry, and in many cases is more advanced than us in many sectors including energy.
perfectbark 8 months ago
@perfectbark Don't put words in my mouth, iv never stated religion is truth, iv only said its got its constructive use [i can bring you countless examples if youd like].
Religion doesn't have to be intolerant, i know plenty of catholics who are if anything an example for the rest of us. Unfortunately, intolerance has always existed, i know of theist & atheist peoples who are destructive, intolerant & hypocritical. Religion, like science, has been used for constructive & destructive purposes.
prjerry7 8 months ago
@prjerry7
See the documentary Jesus Camp if you so believe that religion is of constructive use in modern day society. Consider the ancillary damage to children in a non-sexual way. It can be found here on youtube in 9 parts. Enjoy.
perfectbark 8 months ago
@perfectbark Documentary's are not valid sources of information, just look at Michael Moores documents, though i will look at the document when i have time.
Religion has always been a refuge for the poor [though most are ignorant & truly indifferent of religious holybooks], unfortunately many have used religion for destruction [through desperate poor people], look at the mid. east hell [though many muslims are good people]. Christianity has had its own ugliness as has science & technology [war].
prjerry7 8 months ago
@prjerry7
and ya know ..... whenever I encounter a religious zealot here or elsewhere on the internet it never ceases to amaze me how you guys feign victimization whenever a rational non-believing Atheist calls you on your bullshit myths. This applies to ALL religions but by far the worst are pious sanctimonious hubristic muslims and the christians. Hubris ..... will bring all of you guys down in the end.
perfectbark 8 months ago
@perfectbark Hubris is something every animal can have, the cold war was full of hubris, religion had minimal to do with it, science & technology had much [space race, arms buildup].
Every1 has problems, some refuge on a drug [anti-depressant, alcohol], others in religion [doesnt have 2 be destructive] & others just quit.
Religion has inspired humanitarian efforts like redcross & salvation army foundation. One of my cousins is a nun, you can NOT tell me religion has made her a dumb/bad person.
prjerry7 8 months ago
@prjerry7
the fact that your cousin is wasting her life is indeed very, very sad. Hubris is a uniquely human characteristic. again ..... see the documentary Jesus Camp where hubris is copiously manifest as an exemplar.
perfectbark 8 months ago
@perfectbark my cousin does humanitarian efforts internationally, she's a professor in theology but sometimes cant teach when shes called to do humanitarian efforts abroad. Shes a very educated & peaceful women thanks to many things including her faith. Shes allot of things but very very very sad is not one of them.
Hubris, like every word, changes definition with time, today it is mostly coined to define arrogance & extreme high self-esteem, it is not uniquely human.
prjerry7 8 months ago
@prjerry7
interesting, the theology professor I had for an elective was a former minister turned atheist. and I also find it interesting that theists always seem to want to believe that our children are being molested in public schools where they are surrounded by mandated reporters and where teachers and staff are subjected to mandatory criminal background checks. What is it about the religion industry that promulgates these myths?
Send money, the pope needs new Prada loafers.
perfectbark 6 months ago
@perfectbark i don't depend on churches and im not catholic, the falsity in all of your logic is that you think the only religious institution is the catholic church.
I'v seen dozens of young atheist turn christian when the going gets tough, its their refuge, iv also met many great people who are religions and atheist and many bad people that are religious and atheist.
I, unlike you, dont simplify peoples by categorizing them on ANYTHING [race, religion, etc].
prjerry7 6 months ago
@prjerry7
since when does the religion industry actually deal in reality? The fact is that I hold all religious institutions in equal disdain with particular disgust for ALL orthodoxy.
perfectbark 6 months ago
@perfectbark When does the church deal with reality? poverty is a reality & the institutions with most humanitarian efforts are the churches, if thats disgusting for you then you should look in the mirror to see true filth.
ps; as an atheist you should look into buddhism
prjerry7 6 months ago
@prjerry7
religion ..... is an industry, and a self-promoting, self-serving one at that. It has always exploited those who are less fortunate, less informed, desperate, fallen on bad times, etc. And as a secular humanist who works in education I have no need to explore other non-judeo christian religions simply because I do not believe in the supernatural.
and ZEALOTS always resort to ad hominems. Now go off an be a good boy and get on you knees and pray to your little friend.
perfectbark 6 months ago
@perfectbark false, religion is not a self serving industry, ill use Christianity as example; the churches only source of cash is the 10% they collect, in the new testament [& many churches today practice this] the 10% of cash collected is used for humanitarian effort, to help the needy. Sure, corruption exists, iv seen pastures wearing Rolex, but i have catholic family who if anything are an example.
Don't categorize all religious institutes in the greedy bag, stereotyping is simple-minded.
prjerry7 6 months ago
@prjerry7
As you continue to defend your religion take the time to read The Lost Child of Philomena Lee by Martin Sixsmith. If you haven't rejected the morally bankrupt catholicism by then there is no hope for you as a member of the human race.
perfectbark 6 months ago
@perfectbark Iv read your book, its a tragedy of a boy who is put under adoption in America by the catholic church, sad story but theres nothing christian about it except a few corrupt egoistic nuns who think their christian.
Still, if this kind of story makes you think so bitterly about religion i advice you to travel & meet some people from different religious sects, having a point of view on something so extensive from such a narrowe source is ignorant.
ps; im not catholic.
prjerry7 6 months ago
@prjerry7
we obviously have very different ideas about what does or does not accurately represent christianity. I again remind you of my catholic education and upbringing. And I have met many people in my 57 years from many christian sects, and yes, many of them are nice people, up to the point that is where they impose religious dogma upon my secular government and public policy. I give you Rick Perry, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachman and the rest of the religious zealots participating in the

perfectbark 6 months ago
@prjerry7
So if these nuns aren't "christian" then what are they? Did the pontiff think they were christian?
perfectbark 6 months ago
@perfectbark Christian means Christ-like, Christ meaning the famous Jesus of Nazareth, these nuns were NOT like Jesus and the Catholic church is NOT the measuring tool of being christian [Christ like].
Your argument is ridiculous, thats like me saying i don't like science because Mikhail Timofeyevich Kalashnikov used science to designed a weapon that has killed millions.
As i previously stated, religion should be used for good as should science but unfortunately thats not always the case.
prjerry7 6 months ago
well, Kalashnikov wasn't a scientist so this suggestion is somewhat of a non sequitur.
See the documentary Jesus camp.
perfectbark 6 months ago
@perfectbark 1 of 2;
Kalashnikov used science [which means knowledge] to make the ak47 design cheap, effective & durable, science was also used to make nuclear & chemical weapons, still, science like religion can be used for good.
Catholic church is the most extensive institution ever used to carry out humanitarian efforts. Catholic church gets attention in the media because of how contradictory terrible acts are with its purpose, molestation in schools [more frequent] don't get much attention.
prjerry7 6 months ago
and these nuns and many other catholic clerics in Ireland and America at the time were, in fact, trusted by those who believed in the image and "holiness" of the church of rome, perhaps historically the greatest christian influence of all time.
perfectbark 6 months ago
@perfectbark 2 of 2;
Faith means believing without seeing, SOME religions function on faith, billions of people with no RATIONAL hope take refuge in religion during hard times & many times they wither the storm thanks to their irrational faith that some holy order in the universe will give them justice.
I repeat, religion can be used for good & for bad, as can science, etc.
Don't allow narrow minded brainwashing documentaries, books or news build your opinion on religion, go out &see 4r yourself
prjerry7 6 months ago
@prjerry7
so your family is supported by and dependent on the religion industry .... no surprises there.

Pray all you want, you and your associates will never be able to pray your way out of the messes you create.
perfectbark 8 months ago
@perfectbark Please don't compare USA to Europe, the average American wins almost $10,000 more yearly then the average European, our best higher education institutions outnumber their whole continents, our economy is out-competing Europe's. Your association with religion & economics is naive & narrow-minded. Some of the fastest growing economies today [BRIC [China depends on def.]] are highly religious nations.
Some of the most educated people iv met are highly religious [& not intolerant].
prjerry7 8 months ago
@prjerry7
well, it is a well established fact that China's economy will exceed ours within a few short years, sometime in 2015 I believe. I am aware of the influence of religion on humanity, all I am saying is that it is a shame that these myths still prevail in the 21st century. In my world, academia, I don't see religion as a factor at all so I disagree with you.
perfectbark 8 months ago
@perfectbark Dont be over hyped with Chinas current growth, Japan was in the exact same position in the 90's & Germany in the 70's [both almost surpassed USA gdp], imo Chinas gdp will surpass ours temporarily but they have titan problems like their population hunger [this is why they cant spend as much on military even though they currently have a surplus] & when their post 1baby per family generation retires their economy will see hell, possibly worse then the USSR in the 80's.
prjerry7 8 months ago
@prjerry7
the 1 child policy applies only to urban dwellers in eastern china, not to farming families in western china including the communities in the Tibetan plateau. as I am sure that you are aware, china has serious water quality issues as well as other very serious environmental issues. Like the US, she has become a population of nouveau riche consumers that will likely decline as they exceed 1.4 billion. time will tell, but we do agree that her growth is not sustainable.
perfectbark 8 months ago
@perfectbark Chinas growth is not sustainable because of their consumption but because of international consumption, their filling the little gaps that are left in production [external consumption puts its limit].
USA is not declining, heres a valid source where you can see growth; w w w . trading economics . c o m, look up USA gdp growth. If anything i advice you to put $ into walstreet.
Chinas population will plumit, their already complaining, itll be babyboomer social security debt on roids

Pitiful...... just pitiful.
perfectbark 8 months ago
@perfectbark No institution [catholic church] on earth is perfect due to the imperfection of its managers/employees, public schools are not immune. The catholic pedophiles are hypocrites & immoral trash, as are any other pedophiles from any other institution. Don't blame their filthiness on the Christian doctrine [Christian=Christ-like, Christ refers to Jesus of Nazareth, the only narratives about this man puts him at odds with these pedophiles].
Catholic doctrine does NOT patronize pedophilia.
prjerry7 8 months ago
@prjerry7
that's weather the storm ...... and again you make assumptions. Very early on in my life I recognized that religion, in my particular case, catholicism, was rife with inconsistencies. I can't say that I've had a negative experience per se with religion, the brothers who taught religion were nice people, it was the message that I recognized early on as institution self-promotion and mythological and nothing more.
perfectbark 8 months ago
@prjerry7
So I don't know what storm is being withered [sic] but just because
perfectbark 8 months ago
so many believe in the existence of a supernatural; power doesn't make it so. When ancient people couldn't explain an observed phenomenon they turned to the supernatural, it's the way our brains evolved. We shouldn't be resorting to mythology to explain the unexplainable in the 21st century and this is what I find most disturbing as humanity approaches 7 billion. It's simply lazy to resort to mythology over reason ..... and THAT, my friend, is ignorance.
perfectbark 8 months ago
@perfectbark Your speaking of the typical ‘’does it exist or not’’ argument which leads to nowhere, its out of context, my argument is about the utility of religion not only in the 21st century but throughout human history [which in many cases has been the same].
Ill send you an old personal message I send so you can meditate on it.
Also, use google to find valid sources on child molestations in public schools, im sure you’ll be surprised.

all I know is that the catholic church are not Christian and never were. People who follow it including my wife are sadly deceived and brainwashed into praying to demons thinking they're otherwise. Hint. Nuns and Popes aren't mentioned in the bible nor any Jewish writings. Those who read bibles with books starting with "Saint" you have to beware of the content of what's inside cause it's been changed by the Vatican to deceive the world.
anonymousnamealso 11 months ago
@anonymousnamealso
Lutherans, Mormans and pentecostal wackos aren't mentioned in the bible either. The point is, that religion in all of its incarnations is a contrivance of man, and nothing more. If you read the bible as literature you will see that it is a collection of parables written in the allegorical discourse of the time. In other words .... relgion is a myth, a contrivance of man in attempt to explain the unexplainable mysteries before man became enlightened. get over it.
perfectbark 11 months ago
@perfectbark i wouldnt say the Bible is ONLY that, its got lots of wisdom in its verses, its 66 books of the development of the Hebrew nations & eventually Christianity.
Religion is also a way to become enlightened, a way to make life more bearable for many. EVERY1 has problems in life, for many religion is a refuge [& for others drugs like anti-depressants or cocaine].
Religion has also been the powerfullest tool in history for carrying out humanitarian efforts internationally [S.A., Red cross]
prjerry7 9 months ago

the bible is an allegorical representation of cooperative and altruistic behavior that is represented in other species in the animal kingdom. Beyond that and you are deluding yourself as to the relevance and value of the bible in the 21st century.

Truth, every myth has truth to it.

and its not "a" crime ..... its thousands of cases of molestation as the vatican covered it up for decades.
perfectbark 1 year ago

the archdiocese of Wilmington, DE tried to file for bankruptcy to protect its assets. Recently it settled for something like $77 million in yet another string of molestation lawsuits. The fact that it tried to protect it's assets and prevent victims from recovering damages speaks to the real morality of the vatican. What a vile institution. Saving embryos while molesting living, breathing children. Pitiful.
perfectbark 1 year ago
@usurynation
quite the opposite.
