I wonder, how many great songs he could deliver to this world if he lived a little longer. This one I like most and I love to listen to it while driving my car :)
Is it just me or is every live performance by klaus better than the studio recordings? His voice just sounds so much better here and on the other live performances :)
Too bad I only found this song after the rapture was supposed to happen. The good news is the new rapture is set for October. And when that doesn't happen, 2012! ;)
Yes this guy was very wierd which was a part of what made him so interesting to many. Despite him being flaming gay regardless I don't think that should be a burden to the fact that this man took his artform seriously and for that I respect him very much. Yes he was original and ahead of his time considering that there was never such an act as eccentric as his before and none such as after. Too bad he died but at least he gave the world opportunity to know his work.
Damnit Klaus Nomi, you died of AIDS, how could you have known in 1982 when nobody knew what HIV was or what it did to you - you stylistically picked up where Bowie left off with Scary Monsters, he wasn't worth a shit after that record, your LP still burns bright after thirty years, still so fresh. Ectoplasmic-orgasmic hauntology. Rest in peace.
I can't say exactly why-but I've always found this song really inspiring. I saw Klaus many times and miss him so much. But this keeps me hopeful that he'll come back and visit us again someday.
Three days ago I saw the documentary "The Nomi Song" and my life hasn't been the same since. Who was this brilliant madman, and why did he have to leave us so soon?
Forget about Empire State of Mind... THIS should be the anthem for New York City! It evokes New Yorkers enduring the horrors of AIDS (which stole Klaus), the trauma of 2001 (Klaus once worked as a pastry chef in the WTC!) and the godawful music made in its name (looking at you, Jay-Z/Alicia Keys). After it all blows away - Nomi will always be with you, New York.
I see it too, that lot's of homofobic people say, that he has only gay-audience, and they often called it gay music, but why? It's obvious, that this is an ART, and art is not only for gays. He was outerspacely talented, unpretensious, humble man. What a pity, that he died so young.
I don't know why some homophobics say that klaus only performed for gay people(audience) it is obvious that it caught the attention of all kinds of audience including me I recently I started watching all his videos on youtube also I recomend to watch his documentary on imbd so everyone can know more about this person with a prodigious voice RIP klaus you were unique artist
After the fall, after the fall, we'll be born, born, borrrrn again!!! I see a million lonely mutants and they are glowin in their dark despair, well the freak shall inherit the earth now, no matter how well done or rare! And I"m tellin' you, hold on! Hold on!, Tomorrrow will be therrrre!!!!
@togusa5000 To correct a few things: Yes, he was gay, but he wasn't a transvestite. "Klaus Nomi" is simply a character, a continuation of his rock persona, but offstage, he would dress normally. Secondly, yes, he did occasionally do drugs, but not anymore than anyone else on the New Wave scene at the time. He was never an addict. And lastly, he was actually quite introverted offstage with few friends. Watch "The Nomi Song" to learn more about him. It's rather sad though.
@XxMonArchyxX Don't watch and comment if you don't like him. He's amazing and not a "fucking weirdo nonetheless". He's a genius, and should be praised in all aspects. Just because he doesn't fit your norm doesn't make him weird. Grow up.

I'm sorry, but this is bullshit! The highest note he sings here is still in the range of three octaves. Most people have a range of two and a halv octaves, some have three. But a range of eleven octaves is simply impossible. If you state something like this, please proove it. thanks!
and before you ask: I am a music student and know what I'm talking about! And I have three octaves (and a quint) and this is more than most male singers have.

@raptorrave Yes, I believe he just went back to his home planet too! One day, this 'Starman' will come back and he will blow our minds once again...! I really think without knowing it, David Bowie's Starman was about Klaus... only he didnt' know it, until he met him that is!
@sgmarshall It is known that Yma Sumac was able to sing 4 octaves which is quite exceptional. A normal human being can reach 2,5 octavo. Most people who have no clue about what an octave is, think that when people have quite a reach that they can sing man octaves but it is most of the time like "I caught a fish that big...."
I think this is the definitive Klaus Nomi song, it really speaks to the hope and optimism that he was all about (see more descriptions of that on the website about his documentary). And this is one of my favorites from him.. sometimes it keeps playing in my head over and over again.. puts
Yes, I do believe that Kristian Hoffman wrote this, he was an incredibly talented songwriter.. he should do more stuff if he isn't already.. I don't think he always gets enough credit in all of this either..
LOL.. in the documentary on him called Nomi Song there is a cute little anecdote on that towards the end.. everyone will have to watch it to find out...!
Don't forget this was a massive group effort. They were all friends working together- the dancers, choreographer, musicians, song writers. Klaus was an amazing singer and performer, but he also made the mistake of thinking it was only him. Very sad. It's a lesson- appreciate your friends, mentors, parents.
Agree 100% on both posts Nomi was the original Team especialy Hoffman, not just Klaus with Big Label & Uncreative session musicians & dancers hired for shows.
But you know its the burden of divas, singers & artists to think & believe at one point that they are larger than life they need to + people tell them:Bono, Madonna,Bowie etc. Some come back to Earth but Klaus died too young to learn from his mistakes like most people, with a few more years by himself, or failures he would have been humble
Well I told you about the total eclipse now but still it caught you unaware But I'm telling you hold on, hold on Tomorrow we'll be there And even though you went to church upon Sunday you thought you didn't even have a prayer But I'm telling you hold on, hold on Tomorrow we'll be there After the fall we'll be born, born, born again after it all blows away after the fall, after the fall after it all blows away
I and Joey Arias enjoyed performing with Klaus until the end. XOXO Rest in Peace Dear Klaus. Adrian Richards

Just compare Total Eclipse to see what I mean. He was performing with a studio rock n roll band. It's ok, but nothing like this!

Well the freak shall inherit the earth now
No matter how well done or rare
But I'm telling you hold on, hold on
Tomorrow we'll be there
We'll build our radioactive castles
out in the radioactive air
And I'm telling you hold on, hold on
Tomorrow we'll be there

We'll take a million years of civilization
We're gonna give it the electric chair
But I'm telling you hold on, hold on
Tomorrow we'll be there
I see a hundred million lonely mutants
they are glowing in their dark despair
But I'm telling you hold on, hold on
Tomorrow we'll be there

Its weird how many of his songs apply to current topics.
I made a video last night about last nights election of Obama and defeat of republicans with Ding Dong the Witch is dead.
I could make another vid with Simple Man about Barack and the expectations people have.
Could make another one with After The Fall about the whole Bush & Cheney 8 years + fiasco and the light at the end of the tunnel.
I could make another one with ICUROK etc...timeless Klaus! Wish you were there last night bro!
