@mikedrummonds by all means, post your movies here on youtube that will blow his out of the water. or, more realistically, simply go back and stare at your michael bay "films" in the semi-vegetative state you most likely exist. films that make you think aren't for everybody...
@isaachaze1 LMAO! Thats how you picture me??? as a avid fan of king hack Michael Bay? Shows which one of us lives apart from reality, because I don't like the shitty arthouse films of a shitty arthouse director, it means I like the shitty films of a shitty hollywood director, right on son. I think they both suck. Only difference: anyone with half a brain recognizes that Bay is shit. But ten trillion people mistaking Darren's shit as "Brilliant masterworks" That makes me both think and cry.
@mikedrummonds yea, that's what my guess was about you. i don't see darren's "shit" as "brilliant masterworks," but they are very well made and the editing is originally done. The stories usually speak "the truth". whatever it is you DO like, i can assure you, there are people out there that think it's shit, and the're probably right, at least in some way. and yea, i guess we can both agree that bay is shit at least.
@isaachaze1 And just for the record, I don't need to make entire movies to demonstrate that Arronofsky sucks, he does that just fine with his own movies, the fuckin pretentious, derivative, sadist. P.S. Black Swan was all a dream. Just saved you years of thinking.
personally i still love Requiem For a Dream the best... just amazing every single time. all the style in it, brilliantly executed. i like the fountain as well (all of them really!) black swan oddly is my least..?
I LOVE DARREN ARONOFSKY!!!!! Requiem For A Dream and Black Swan were AMAZING (although I think I preferred Requiem For A Dream, probably because I read the book) and Pi was... just confusing. But he is my FAVORITE DIRECTOR EVER!!!!!!
@lovetownsend Thing about the Fountain is, it's one of those movies you got to watch several times and people want to get it the first time and have a spoon feed story line, so The Fountain isn't going to be popular as it should be.
I would say that after obsessing over entertainment my whole life, I can rest comfortably knowing that I share a simmilar approach to film making as Darren Aronofsky.
As a fan of films there's a lot of great directors I love...Martin Scorsese (The Departed), Terrence Malick (The Tree of Life), Christopher Nolan (Memento), Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia) , Gaspar Noé (Enter The Void), David Lynch (Inland Empire), Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko), Gus Van Sant (Milk)........But Darren Aronofsky is outstandig! ...Darren man, you go along with Mr.Kubrick!
@coolestprsnonutubevr I sort of halfway agree but I don't think that's a reflection on Darren but more the fan base Reqiuem generated, which doesn't really matter because a Director is free to do what he likes and has no control over who watches or how they interpret his art. BUT I think Black Swan deserves a lot of praise for being a film with a thesis that is true about any art not just ballet, though I do think Ballet was the perfect medium to tell the story and I really enjoy ballet.
@rayshuttlesworth I sort of halfway agree but I don't think that's a reflection on Darren but more the fan base Reqiuem generated, which doesn't really matter because a Director is free to do what he likes and has no control over who watches or how they interpret his art. BUT I think Black Swan deserves a lot of praise for being a film with a thesis that is true about any art not just ballet, though I do think Ballet was the perfect medium to tell the story and I really enjoy ballet.
I personally thought that Black Swan was his worst film, which is still saying something! He is going to become one of the major film makers of our time.
I guess you could call it "weird", but that does not make it bad. The way it was shot, the lighting, the music, and the excellent acting really got me to feel for the characters. It feels so much more real too, life doesn't always have a happy ending. The message the movie was going for has not been done in many other movies either. The movie was unique. It really got to me.
The 4th question is very interesting. Aronofsky is masterful at creating pictures that are charged with shots full of emotions and rawness. His movies are so deep and troubling that you just feel bad witnessing what is happening on the screen.
I would love to see him, David Fincher, and Christopher Nolan put their heads together for a film. Since they all got snubbed last year, it would be really exciting to see them band together and blow us all away. They could all write, maybe Arronofsky could direct while the other two produce or whatever. I just think that would be really awesome to see considering what they are all known for (Fight Club, Memento, Black Swan) it would be really interesting to see what they can come up with
@40Pacino Epicness. thats what they would come up with. :D Nolan and Fincher are two of my all-time favorited directors. I've yet to see any of Aronofski's films (aside from The Wrestler, which was very good).
@fly8oy51 The only thing by aronofsky that I have seen is Black Swan, which I really liked. Combine that, with Nolan's Memento and Fincher's Se7en, and I think you can get yourself a good psychological drama or thriller
This guy.... I am so frustrated with him. He messes with my head. Literally every movie I've watched by him so far has reached me on a scary psychological level. No other movies but his have reached my subconscious in such a gripping manner. I'm jealous of him for his film making skills. I am jealous of his artistic ability. I am angry that he is able to affect me as much as he has. I am angry I'm even taking the time to write this.
I have so much to learn from him. I have a long way to go.
I like good movies and I will never see Transformers 2 because I'm sure it will suck. I recently saw Solaris and it was wonderful. Barry Lyndon is one of my favorite movies. Twin Peaks is a beloved show of mine. You're acting like a hipster because you name dropped directors with the implication of pride in knowing them, poo-poo'd Aronofsky, and did so in response to someone who genuinely loves the man's movies. If you aren't a hipster, fine, but you are a douche and vain.'kid'-1 you-0
I don't get why everyone is so hyped about The Wrestler and The Fountain but forget his biggest masterpiece "Pi". "Pi" is the best Aronofsky did so far (at least to me), I have no idea why the film is so underated (or why no one speaks about it).
HE'S AN AMAZING DIRECTOR! I'M EXCITED ABOUT WRESTLER & BLACK SWAN. And what's interesting that he showed woman's pain, feeling's ,what is quite hard for a man, right? He shouldn't stop doing his thing, cause he's awesome on his way!
@schlampentusse132 IMDB has him attached to 'The Wolverine' , Pre-production in 2012. I have heard other rumors, mentions too. He has already worked with Jackman so makes sense. He would make it a visceral, violent R-rated Wolverine movie I would think.
if the social network wins best director it will be funny. it's a good movie. but it was pretty much a bunch of shots of actors saying lines edited together to music. i guess there were also some good shots of kids running across campus and jumping into pools. on the other hand, the camera work in black swan was just unbelievable. maybe i don't get it...
@KellyDiana28 The Fountain is a rather complex movie that even aspiring filmmakers like me are having a hard time to understand it, even though the visuals are good.
@nocacryle I completely agree, but unfortunately it seems that The Social Network and Fincher will win the Oscars, not even Nolan is the favorite.

Yes, exactly! I've seen Kurosawa, Fellini, Tarkovsky, Kubrick, Bergman approach films with a paintbrush as it is an art.
I've seen Nolan, Hitchcock, Tarantino, and Godard make films more with an entertaining style. Aronofsky always somehow brilliantly mixes the two.
