Ii have only recently discovered the Allman Brothers - and thank God for YouTube and all the music lovers who upload true epic greatness, byte by byte for all those who keep looking for truly genuine music that moves them...

Thanks Shotgunnova and Happy 4th of July

  • Check out the unplugged version of "In Memory of Elizabeth Reed" by The Allman Brothers band at my youtube account.

  • The album they were touring in support of, I thought was a MASTERPIECE. Back Where It All Begins. This version of Elizabeth Reed is MY #1 FAVORITE!!!!

  • Ah man, like 3 seconds before this video starts a man yells "Little Martha". this man was my dad who had went to this show and sat front row to see them. He said he wanted to be like the guy who yells "WHIPPING POST" in the Live at Filmore East records.

  • @DingusMalingus696969 Pretty sweet. I did have to cut a little banter before the track because I thought the total time had to be 10:00 or less, but it's longer nowadays. I don't remember the Little Martha shoutout though; might be at the end of the previous track or somethin'.

  • @Shotgunnova Yea dont worry about that, as long as this masterpiece is put on here its all good. yea its in there somewere.

  • @Shotgunnova I can hear it on my album yes I said album.

  • what ever dudes ..I likes

  • I first heard this on my local listener-sponsered-not-a-part-of-the-big-brother-radio network, WMNF.org. I taped it and listen time and again. This version cuts off way too soon.

  • This is a perfect song.

  • for those of you wanting to get mp3s of this or any other song google flv to mp3

  • so pretty..to all those you've lost...my heart goes out to you you...erick

  • All I can say is WOW!!!!!

  • all time fave from these guys but never heard this acoustic version. ahh yesss!

  • When i wear dresses my name changes to elizabeth!

  • top-10

  • That first solo by Warren Haynes could be the best acoustic solo I've ever heard....Dickey is great, but Warren is the ultimate natural...guy blows my mind.

  • hah, i have the original tape of this live recording, some fine music, there is like 2 other versions that dont come near to the sound of this.

  • classic masterpiece made into a work of art!

    stupendus

  • sooooooooooo good

  • @LILREAD MY DAUGHTERS NAME IS ALSO ELIZABETH....I NAME HERE AFTER THIS SONG YOUR PARENTS ROCK....GOD BLESS YA

  • It sound just fine Mr Betts no need to worry...The sound of lawn mowers in the background at the cemetery causes Brother Dickey to lay into the strings and the rest is musical history.

  • @McQ109

  • best version of this song

  • instruments speak louder than lyrics

  • 65 likes, 0 dislikes, the viewers of this video must be my kind of people...

  • This song is what it feels like making love to a beautiful woman!

  • Elizabeth Reed is the essence of the Allman Bros Band, sweet, powerful and captivating. Not bad for a bunch of Georgia hicks. While the electric version recorded at the Filmore East is perhaps one of the greatest live jazz/southern rock songs ever recorded, this version is nonetheless moving and inspirational . I do miss the Bros.......

  • amazing fuckin bass line man.

  • The bass guitar solo in this song is just ridiculous!

  • Well, i would say...the original is the best.

  • @ruutu87 I agree, original studio work is better than live 99.99% of the time

  • special !!! memories !!! moooooody! ^^

  • Man, this song gets me every time. Filmore East is my favourite, but this is a great version too. Bass solo at the end is painfully cool.

  • OUTSTANDING!!!!!

  • YOU SAID IT !!!!!!!!!!!

  • this tune is still fuckin great !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Does anyone have the unplugged video of this performance?

  • Music like this gets in my bones so bad , that it makes me wanna take a shit...

    I miss Duane and Dickey!

  • this tune so rocks it man !!!

  • superb.. where can i download this song, could anyone tell me

  • Y'can probably get it off Soulseek.

  • This is superb!! Very tight. You just gotta love this session. This band was the best. Thanks for sharing this video.

  • In memory of Cynthia Glass..... 1949-50 -- 1971, Portland, OR.

  • Just when I thought this jam couldn't get any better, Dickey comes up with this. How about that bass ....... great stuff.

  • this is dickey!

  • LOOOVE this!

  • this tune.............kicks ASS !!!!!

  • dicky kicks accoustic ass.WOW

  • My full name is Elizabeth Nicole Reed;; so ever since i was little my parents said it was my song. i think it is truley awesome how that is my name and a song....lol..i think i want this song played @ my funeral.

  • marry me ?

  • hhmmm...i would..Jk, lol..

  • @lilreadof96 That is really cool. You name is Elizabeth Reed. As Dickey Betts, the author of the song, tells it, Dickey was having an affair with a woman who was actually dating a musician in another band. When this other band was on the road and Dickey was in Macon, Ga, she and Dickey would meet. Dickey wrote the song for her but couldn't use her name. The song was written in a cemetery and the tombstone Dickey was near was Elizabeth Reed who died in the 1880's. You're alive so its yours now.

  • @lilreadof96 This song is beautiful in itself...I'm sure you're honored to have such a name.

  • @lilreadof96 If you didn't know, this song is named after a tombstone in Rose Hill Cemetary where the Allman Brothers wrote alot of thier early pieces. I've always thought it was a cool little fact.

  • @lilreadof96 Thanks..I thought I was the only one whom wanted this song at my funeral...glad after a lifetime to see someone else thinks so too..

  • YES!!!!!!!!! It's online. This is amazing.

  • awesome

  • this is so ,so, so GREAT !

  • Letting it all hang out; these guys are amazing musicians.

  • ..Just amazing..it don't get any BETTER than this!!

  • Totally smokin'!!!!!!!!

  • Sick tune, sick version, sick band

  • Completely amazing! It sounds like students trying to find the good sound, And produce a blues-jazz-pop-rock-classical-funk version. Not so better as the 1969 versions but completely different. A new sun is born in my music life, ABB can create a sound of nowhere with a standart!!!

  • Students??? Haven't you ever just JAMMED??? lol

  • this version is so much better it cant be overplayed because its the same people playing it i love this version it kicks the hell outta the old on e can sum1 help me find it on guitar pro

  • Hey jessjess:

It doesn't matter where you find it, or what version it is, it IS the same song! Play it!

  • Saw these guys in a snow storm, Atlanta fall '68 playing all night in a Parks & Recreation shelter in Piedmont Park. There is no better overall musicianship demonstrated by anyone, period.

Also as a lead band for Santanna & Vanilla Fudge same year.

  • awesome

  • this is incredible. absolutely amazing

  • RIP WOODY

  • Is there any video of this performance?

  • Thanks alot for putting this up!

  • Always loved this version..GREAT !!!

  • I'm running out to go buy this album right now!

  • Wow; awesome version of a killer song! Betts and Haynes sound great together; allen woody was an amazing bassist.

  • great

  • Can't touch the Fillmore East version, But still sounds pretty damn fine !

  • I think what makes it fine is that is does touch the Fillmore East here and there and that's why us old fans can really get into it. I'm going to play it again now. Peace!

  • No comment. 6 stars.

  • this is as good as the ABB gets

  • somebody post the video!!!!!

  • @MAXsdy12

Lady--I'm sure they will do it, ....just as soon as they can post the Lyrics.....
