Not necessarily. Thanks to Michael's ghost we now know that the "whispers" in the jungle are actually the souls of those who died on the Island and can't "move on", presumably because of something terrible they did during their time there. No reason this couldn't have been a similar occurance- the dead communicating through a dream rather than a clairvoyant. We don't know for an absolute fact that all or any of the other apparitions were the smoke monster either, for that matter.
