Epic music...The Lord Of The Rings --> Awesome books by J.R.R. Tolkien and the best movies of all time that were ever produced... they're also the best movies, it doesn't matter which movies will be made in future ^^
@DaanGoould Actually, it's a book split up into six parts; you will notice that The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and Return of the King are all split up into two books each; and each part is titled "Book One", "Book Two", etc. Sorry to get all nerdy on you.
@udun93 I think Peter Jackson had his reasons to put this in the movie. I, myself, don't consider it a bad thing, this part gives the story of Smeagol an extra tragic side.
When I see this part, I get touched by the tragedy of this creature, the fact that he could've been good, but because of a bad twist of faith ends up being evil. I think this was exactly what Peter Jackson intended and I can't help but to think of him as pure genius.
@tarantino1999 i do agree, but it does demonise one of the purest characters from the book. The thing about Faramir was he was restrained and kind, where Boromir was proud and thuggish. But, as you say, there was a reason for it
Sons of Gondor! Of Rohan! My brothers. I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of Men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields when the Age of Men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!
it's so bogus though...Smeagol in the book NEVER started to be good. he was/is/always will be pure evil. it was over for him when he murdered Deagol...I don't like how the TT made it seem like he could be good...sure it makes for good story telling, but it's not in the book.
Then again, TT is probably the least accurate of them all...
@ruthanneism Excuse me... no! Smeagol was a dual personality even in the book! It's made a lot more clear in the movie, but there is some hint in the book that smeagol is not wholly evil. Course... I'm biased really... I love smeagol. The best character in the book and movie ;) The movie killed Frodo (scriptwise) or he would have been my fav ;)
@h1r43th4l1v3 Its "The rock and pool is nice and cool, so nice for feeeet! We only wish to catch a fish, so juicy sweeeet!". Andy Serkis actually improvised that, he adapted it from a song Smeagol sings in the books.
"smeagol....why does it cry smeagol?" "Cruel men hurts us. master tricksed us." "of course he did, I told you he was tricksy, i told you he was false." "Master is our friend, our friend." "master betrayed us." "no, not its business. leave us alone!" filthy little hobbits! they stole it from us!" "no, no!" "what did they steal?" "myyyyyy precious!!! AHHHHH"
When they started to beat Smeagol, they actually cut alought from the original. The extended version is longer and more brutal. Great for priming the audience.
@surrealfeline ooh...sorry. Gonna hav 2 watch it agen. I never like that part anyway - only seen it once wen it first came out in da cinema and i was like seven so sorry again...i don't like seeing gollum abused =[ he's my fave character
Smeagol is such a tragic character. He wanted to be good but in the end gave in again.:(Although watching the fil I thought he would redeem himself. How wrong I was.:(
I hate this part in the movie, Smeagol is just starting to beleive that he is good and they (Frodo and the dudes who capture him and beat him up) ruin it. It is the begining of the end for him. After this part he starts thinking of ways to kill them and take the ring back instead of finding food for them like he had before Sam and Frodo were captured. Whenever I see this part I'm like, "NOOO! He was just starting to be good!" Sorry, just some random thoughts. Great music btw. 5/5*
@Darkknight475 Actually, I think he has a valid point. Even though there was that part of Gollum who hated Frodo and Sam and wanted to kill them for the Ring, there was the other part, the distant memory of a hobbit called Smeagol who lived by the river. I think that part was just beginning to gain the upper hand before Frodo "betrayed" him. Any show of good by Gollum afterwards was just a pretence and used to make Frodo believe that he was still following and still liked his 'master'.
@Darkknight475 well that, I believe, is debatable. This whole scene in the book was played out differently.
But later on, Gollum has been "sneaking off" and upon his return he finds Frodo and Sam asleep peacefully, the sight of this touches something deep within him. He feels something of love towards Frodo, and reaches out to touch him gently, but then Sam wakes up and thinks he was "pawing at master" and speaks harshly with him, this is the point at which Gollum becomes totally corrupted
@Darkknight475 Tolkien considered Sam's harsh words and their outcome the most tragic part of the book. It is here that all Smeagol is gone and he's all Gollum. It said that if one of them had seen him as he watched him they would have thought that he was just an old hobbit, and that shows that he could have come back. If he had continued this way, he may still have stolen the Ring in the end, but only to protect Frodo from himself, and he would have jumped in himself with the Ring to save him
@2muchskill4you Wow, I feel the exact same way! I hate this part too, just want to jump inside the tvscreen and yell to Smeagol; "No, it's not what it seems like!!! Master did NOT betray you, not the way you think he did!" Lol xD Oh, an 5000 stars to the music btw ^^
@FantasyDessi I KNOW! Me too. I get so flustered. I'm like "WHY do you word it like that Frodo? You look like you're tricking him! Just say 'There are some men here and I stopped them from killing you. Behave Smeagol, be nice, and they won't harm you." or something like that. SHIT, ya know? Pooooor pooor Smeagol!
@deftonian69 no I don't think so either. his mind was simply too poisoned by the ring's power by this point and there would be no true return to the way he was before he found the ring and killed Deigal (is that how you spell his name?) His 'good side' was pretty submissive to his evil half. The side that wanted the ring no matter what, even if he had to kill for it.
@2muchskill4you smeagol was tainted, and while there was that chance of redemption, the ithilien rangers ruin it, not frodo, besides as soon as he knew that frodo wanted to destroy the ring he would hhave gone crazy.
@2muchskill4you Then again, if he wouldn't have gotten mean then the ring would have not been destroyed and Middle-Earth would have faced eternal doom.
