I think Bond is doing what a lot of people do to keep their mind off of thinking about things. Bond is constantly going full pace in this movie and you see here he is drinking quite a lot, but it's because he's afraid if he ever slows down enough to where he has to think about the things that have happened it might break him, and he can't afford that. So, he puts on his calm no emotions face that makes him hard to read...but in scenes like this you see what's really going on.
Quantum of Solace is the most misunderstood of all the Bond films. I don't personally get all the hate for QoS. Sure it had its minor faults here and there with how well the story was told but the point is the story was there. I think if they had handled the script a bit better than QoS would've been as good if not better than Casino Royale. Still it's a great film.
@themenaceanish its major problem was it could have used more scenes like this rather than just being one action sequence to another...but it was still a good movie and a great Bond film, nonetheless.
James Bond´s sleeping problems is that when he actually sleeps, he does not want to sleep, because for him there´s no difference between being asleep and awake. It´s both a sting feeling of numbness, always about the women in his life. Trust me...
i could not sleep for two years coz she was a amazing girl and wrote her some many love letters. how do you forgot your first love bc the times i cherished was the best times of my life and i stop smoking and she knew how i cared about her health and well being then maybe we be together. she always had that faith and hope that i would be successful. she was so cute and adorable. i told someone to tell her i love you journei but that was the last time i saw that smile on her face.
This is like the shower scene of Casino Royale for Quantum of Solace... we see alot deeper into two familiar characters... awesome, thanks for posting.
I've got the Gordon's and the Stolischniya but to get Kina Lillet is impossible and even to get Lillet Blonde/Blanc seems difficult. Dry vermutti like Noille Prat makes it just another Martini-variation. Kina Lillet has citrus-fruit origins, orange etc. It apparently also has quinine (vs. tonic water).
I wonder if you took an orange liquer, dry as found-able and cut it with tonic water, or simply crush an orange and tonic...

In the entire movie I saw the Royale's flawed Bond suddenly and without any reason changed into the old professional buddy. Not an emotional man burdened with a love loss. This scene stands closest to call it "Bond's in pain." But this scene is approx. 3/10 if I have to rate the dramatic intensity. By the way, if you guys want to see an emotional action film, try John Woo's The Killer. QoS has no chance with that.

What a laughable seen! In the entire Quantum of Solace we can only see a fulfilled, badass Bond unlike Casino Royale, and this Bond is only sad when he's drunk. Was this a serious intention? I doubt that.
I like this better than the ending because it shows the emotional side of Bond. The ending does show that he has closure. But something about a character having to go through hell, before closure is more entertaining.
i don't think kina lillet exists anymore. right after casino royale was written, they removed the "kina" (forget the actual ingredient) and it just became lillet which is much sweeter and not as bitter
i've tried it with dry vermouth (contrary to what the bartender says) which is reported to taste like the original kina lillet...very bitter
if anyone's into making the vesper try it with lillet blanc. expensive in the states though,,,
This was one of the better scenes in the movie. Albeit sad, it really goes to show how much Bond tries to hide the fact that he's actually a human being after all.
Another such scene is when Mathis dies. When he says "She gave everything for you. Forgive her, forgive yourself." I was sure Bond would break down right there. Just goes to show how frail we people really are, hey?
No kidding. It reminds me of a line Mathis said in the original Casino Royale novel "Don't become a human yourself. We would lose such a wonderful machine."
this scene shows why bond drinks his vodka martini shaken...not stirred. which casino royale didnt go into depth. but they did say "do i look like i give a damn"
Interestingly enough a section was deleted from this scene where Mathis explains to Bond what Quantum of Solace is and how he believes Bond is looking for it. For some reason Marc Foster cut it out as he did alot of other good scenes. Hopefully it'll be on the dvd.
Bond's Quantum of Solace is a small measure of comfort or his own peace of mind after what happened to Vesper. That is what he is looking for throughout the movie. I believe he obtains it at the end of the film where that Canadian agent whispers "thankyou" as she leaves the room with Bond and Vesper's boyfriend. At that point he has prevented the same thing from happening to someone else and hence has found his Quantum of Solace.
a precise figure defining the comfort, humanity and fellow feeling required between two people for love to survive. If the quantum of solace is nil, then love is dead.
Personally i dont think Bond gives a shit about Vesper, after she´s dead that is. Because he doesn´t think the dead want revenge, and in another way. Bond doesn´t think much highly of Vesper, because she betrayed him. It´s one thing if Bond betrays someone, but if someone betrayes him, he´ll never forget about it. He accepts it though, as every agent would do. About the sleep, why sleep when you can do anything you want to?
The clip hasn't been released yet. Hopefully it'll be on the deleted scenes section of the DVD this march. Its already been confirmed that the DVD will have the film's alternate ending which will be cool to watch as it ends to film in a completly different direction.
beautiful and sad scene it really shows the more human side of bond something we havent seen before i mean how many bond films we see him felt depressed for losing the one he loves
whats keeping you awake- this movie isnt its sending me to sleep

what i like about this scene is that it shows a real fact: not just bond, but every single person has their own and well hidden quantum of solace.

This scene, I think, is VERY true to Fleming's original concept of Bond. The performances here were spectacular, the writing spot-on.

My favorite scene on the entire movie. Bond does look here like a film-noir sap, shattered by the memory of the woman he loved.
