I too was part of the regular "gang" at the WNEW studios on E 67 St, waiting to get in to the taping of the show. I was in HS at the time, and also got to accompany the presidents of his fan club (two girls from CA) to Soupy's home, and also to that of Frank Nastasi (who was White Fang, Pookie and all of the guys at the door). Great memories, of a great entertainer! The world misses you, Soupy ...
I will fondly remember Milton aka Soupy. I used to be in the studios in NY many times when the show was aired. I stood about 10' feet from him when he did the shows. He came to the house a few times for a backyard BBQ my family used to have each year. So he was like family to me.
@woodington08 sure do but it was morgas the magnificint from new orleans. grow up east side with soapy every am noon and pm listen to lee alan on the horn every nite on wxyz lots of good times on woodward. rwgolfer
He was soo good, and was such a natural comedian. I loved him to pieces, always loved it when he did the mouse. Mr Dressup (Ernie Combs) was such a phoney compared to Soupy.
I saw Soupy in person at his Paramount Easter Rock and Roll Show. I saw him in person at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, I was there opening night of his Broadway show "Come Live With Me". Watched him do his WNEW-TV show in person. I was in the audience for one of his "What's My Line" shows and I shook his hand at a Hollywood Memorabilia event.
You sing like Jerry Lewis. But I admire your effort. Our whole house was filled with Soupy fanatics. Even my Mother, who when The Mask was finally unmasked by Philo Kvetch, yelled,"Krushchev!" I was 8 years old, I said "Who?"
I actually remember watching one day when he was at the window with Pookie and one of his caps fell out on the floor. With his back to the camera he picked it up and replaced it in his mouth. Live TV Baby!
I visited Soupy's studio at WNEW in NYC in 1966 and at KTLA in LA in '78 because I was a huge fan. He was incredibly gracious and kind both times I met him, even though he was in the middle of doing his show. As a kid in '66 I was just in awe of him, the puppets, cameras & lights, but in '78 I could appreciate how hard he worked, how he ran the show, attending to details of production, camera angles, etc. A great guy, an unforgettable show! Thanks for the video, which brings back great memories.
afternoons, waiting to be picked to be in the studio, or maybe up in The Booth"
watching the show live. Imagine "entertainers" trying to work live on tv today? That's what made Soupy so wonderful. Alway fulled with surprises, and nothing phoney about him. And yes, he was always gracious and kind!
I too found this after hearing about Soup's passing. I enjoyed it so much I posted it on my profile on Facebook. I think everybody should post it today in memory of soupy (in my humble opinion) + i think i will continue to play this song today. It's very upbeat and cheery. Plus I really need to give Bono a break. I've been overdosing on Bono/U2~ Thanks and again, everybody keep playing and dancin' to 'Come Pie With Me' in memory of Soupy (RIP).
Is it just me, or does anyone else find a strong resemblance between Soupy Sales and Mel Gibson!!!?? I never saw this comedian until today so I can only comment from what I saw in this video.. even when he laughs!! Insane! Seems like a good guy though, so RIP
i'm another b boomer that grew up watching Soupy. Your video is so great! Let's all do the Mouse and go Pie someone in Soupy's memory. Love ya Soupy!!!!
Thank you, Barry for this thoughtful, informative & FUN tribute to a legend! Super job! Bravo! Long Live Soupy Sales! My siblings & I adored his genius as a child -- i love him even more now. God bless you both! Thanks, again for the memories & SMILES!!! :-)
He later appeared on The Mike Douglas Show and had a tremendous pie fight with Mike and none else but Moe (The Three Stooges) Howard. It was the greatest pie fight in the history of slapstick comedy between the two greatest living pie fighters of the day.

What a great piece of video that you put together!!! I watched this just after I heard about Soupy's death.
It's a darn shame to lose such a classic comedic talent. I saw a few clips growing up as a kid.
I'm sure there's a WHOLE table full of pies just waiting for him up in heaven - not to mention a bunch of celebs lined up to greet him.....
Thanks for the tribute.
