  • can we use this technology on real boats?

  • So it really works! "but... captain, their voices..." - "...just let them sing!"

  • too fast Vasily too fast!

  • The reason it spins is because the force is perpendicular to the current.

  • good !

  • wow, great job

  • Yes, it is the same as you heard in the movie "Red Oct." I worked at the MHD location in north Alabama years ago. The Russians visited us several times to look over our electro-magnet and refractory material. Location is no more,,we had a liquid oxy. tank explode and lite the aluminum liner of tank,,when thrust broke the tank bolts and tank leaned to one side and took flight, the exhaust leveled the entire facility. Posted in memory of Buddy Haskew who lost his life that night.

  • Isn't this the same principal that powered the Red October in the movie, and book "Hunt for the Red October" ?

  • yes thanks !

  • Yes,,that would be correct. I worked at the MHD project at Reynolds Aluminum years ago until the liquid oxy. tank blew up and leveled the project location.

The Russians came to look over the project several times. They were very curious about the stainless hose clamps we were using on the cooling lines. Like they had never seen anything like that.

  • @partmashgali In the book it was a hydrojet, in the movie it was a MHD.

  • MHD pumps are quite common in nuclear industry and for pumping liquid metals (Hg, Na, K, Cs, Rb, ...) where normal pump materials would fail or contamination by lubricants and other junk may be critical.

  • hunt for red oktober! :D

  • is kinda where my thinking was going.

  • japan actually build a sub with MHD capabilities.

  • It wouldn't surprise me if all the titanium deep water subs didn't have a bit of barium in there somewhere as well, it does make a really nice ceramic, but i'm hearing reports from a few metalurgists that's they may have actually made some kind of an alloy out of it, so will be interesting to keep an eye on. the alloy may even be common knowledge I know the ceramic is no secret.

  • ps. cheers nice one. :)

  • I would assume any danger to wildlife could easily be avoided by running force tubes like a jetski, I'm think 2 charged length in a tube, and hey we all know magnetics spiral so let's go golden ratio and see if we get some more torque out of it. I'll let you know how it goes, just out of interest I would assume high voltage and lower amps would create less heat in the plates and thus less stored inertia? any help before i get started would be handy, as i may as well tinker on a full size hull.

  • get a basic MHD book and read it carefully, pay attention to the math f=JxB do you see voltage term inthere anywhere, its current that matters not volatage YOU AMATEUR HACK

  • sorry that is suppose to say "voltage" not volatage and the amateur hack I'm refering to is

planexzeropoint , just because you have read popular mechanics and can repeat few big words does not make you a scientist with UNDERSTANDING OF THE SUBJECT AT HAND

  • actually never read popular mechanics, just trying to apply to some old physics to things to see if i get any results, but hey good to see your open to other to other things and other people ideas. Obviously i should never have graced one so intelligent's presents. and can the same current not be applied through a higherr voltage. does voltage X amps not equal current. is 240v @ 13 amps not 120v @ 26 amps. i just assumed HV moves quicker.

  • and hacks make assumption i believe. I'm merely enquiring because i haven't actually seen any correlation data between volts and amps and performance. your saying the current is the only thing that matters, not the way it is applied, so can you supply the data to back this up as it might save me lots of time and is the reason for commenting in the first place. to learn and get advice.

  • nice principle, but it would cause environmental disaster. It would kill all the fish and sea mammals, like dolphins, that come even close to this.

  • an accel of 0.4 m/s^2 is actually pretty good. and your speed after 30 sec should be 12 meters/sec not 12 milimeters/sec.

  • anyone has an idea of MHD energetic efficiency?

  • it can be read in Jean Pierre Petit comics and publications. Formulas shows that MHD efficiency is directly related to speed, which is quite interesting !

  • very bad

  • heyi've always wondered if it'll work for a liquid conductor:) and here's the answer:) thanks dude! just a final remark you have to consider the hydrodynamic drag and viscosity while doing calculation of speed and acceleration.

  • this one believes the worlds fastest submarine record was broken using this method but information seems not to exist

  • lol random idea bt since it creates hyd. and ox. capture those somehow and runa fuel cell! lol i hava tiny car that seperates watter into those 2 usin a solar panel then combines em ta create POWA!

  • Good to see MHD come around again. I worked in the MHD research dept. at Reynolds Aluminum in Sheffield, Al. years ago. We did produce electricity with it but had liquid oxygen storage tank rupture and ignited aluminum tank liner and was using liner as fuel,,25 ft. upright tank broke bolts that secured it to slab and as it leaned to launch, the exhaust leveled the entire MHD department and killed a close friend.

  • oh shit i heard about that. i'm from birmingham, al.

  • Sorry to hear that. UTSI used to have a very large MHD generator that used powered coal and air, worked pretty well. In the last few years, there has been a resurgence in MHD research, I was part of several experiments as a grad student researcher and managed to get my tuition and thesis funded by one of them.

  • hello ! what do you want exactly? this experiment is just for the students ! i worked on biggest models ! i work in physic university ! thanks for your interest!!

  • OMFG really, idea stealers =P.

We made the EXACT same product at high school about 4 years ago for a project, except we had the necessary batteries just on board.

    Cool boat isnt it =)

We achieved around the same speed

  • Rentre ici Jean-Pierre Petit!

  • lol, that's generating a lot of hydrogen and that oxygen is going to corrode the crap out of the other contact.

  • could it work in fresh water, and isn't this like a rail gun?

  • Both work on the same principle

  • is it dangerous for the fish?

  • what happens if you put a fish in that aquarium?

could you turn on that "engine"?

    do you have the courage?

  • i like the way you think xD

  • Yes :D

  • thats a cool idea you could really make money from that

  • Comment removed

  • pourquoi l'eau vien verte?

  • electrolyse et oxydation des électrodes

  • identical to the boat tesla made

  • Also, note that in your equation F=BIL, B,I, and L should be vectors and the force F should be the vector cross product. With the set-up you used, your simple multiplication makes a decent assumption. I still doubt that you know the magnetic field as it is installation dependent and the whole magnetic circuit needs to be analysed, probably by an FEA program. I also encourage a magnetic core designed to avoid magnetic saturation to improve magnetic thrust and thus force, but this is heavy.

  • To answer your question about the last demo: Current is radial and magnetic flux wraps in near circles around and through the disc shaped magnet, allowing a vertical portion to interact with the current and create tangential thrust.

  • Nice video overall. You can only multiply acceleration by time to get velocity if acceleration is constant, otherwise you have to integrate through time. Your acceleration is not constant because your force is not constant. You should use the total force (including drag which increases with speed) instead of just the Lorentz force. Also, I believe that your thrust force decreases with increasing water velocity for a constant voltage in order to avoid a second law violation.

  • superbe

  • Your vid is excelent but music...... :(

  • you are dealing with some cool stuff. great job get rid of the ocean sounds and put in some explanations while you are doing them.

  • yeah you could cook the fish as you catch them with one of these:P

  • XD LOL

    btw cool stuff

  • good idea but does it induce an electric current into the water... im not ceen for swimmin near one of those

  • Hook this bad boy up to a Sub and silent running. Nice Job!

  • So if you need 24 volts to power that teeny boat, you would need thousands of volts to an actual small yacht, I would assume. Too bad solar panels can't produce enough power to keep it going infinitely, though there are other ways. Good work, cool science!

  • Scaling doesn't work that way :P

  • What way does it work? I'm sort of new to electronic principles, but I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

  • Thousands of volts? nah. a few hundred should be enough.

  • Bob lazar is pure disinformation. The truth is we have gravitomagneticlly driven vehicles capable of apparent 10ly/d. there is no secret government, all the nations that represent the UN are aware of these vessels. Every flying saucer and triangle are man made using these advance propulsion systems. These technologies use a grand unification theory not known to modern science. Which was not given to us by aliens, but developed through HUMAN! Hard work.

  • Cool system =]

  • Bob Lazar's thesis was in MagntoHydrodynamics.

  • who is bob Lazar?

  • An alleged former Area 51 Physicist. He talked about Microwave Phase Conjugation and Element 115 among other things he claimed could produce anti-gravity.

  • Not anti-gravity as such, but gravity B. 115 exhibits gravity B outside the confines of the nucleus.

  • Exactly. Thank you for correcting him

  • bob lazar is most proberly a disinformation agent, albeit unkowninly. his story was debunk by many including many well known ufologist.

  • What 'element' of his story was debunked, and by whom ?

  • all of it, and by that well know ufologist stanly friedman,i think that's is name

  • "all of it"

Could you be more specific ?

How could his 'story' be debunked if he was acting 'unknowingly' ?

Are you denying specific physical properties of the periodic element number 115 ?

  • There is a grand unification theory not known to modern science, but used by the governments that make up the UN for advance propulsion. Bob lazars claim do not correspond to that theory.

  • Now you my think that the theory is flawed, but every time you look into the sky and see a bright white light streaking across the sky, or reports of ufos, that is it in action. Secondly lazar does not specify where the proton which plugs into element 115 comes from. There are many scientific inconsistencies with his argument, which can be debunked by college students. (not insulting you in any way)

  • Lazar never professed to be all-knowing about the arena he was talking about. There can never be an all-encompassing grand unification theory. There can only ever be a 'current' concensus. Unification can always be modified, extended and reworked as understanding extends.

Any statement so specific can never be absolute fact, but can only be based on your current understanding of principles you believe in.

I take no insult, but you have not answered my question, and your political inclusion.hmmm.

  • I have no political inclusion, I am just telling you what is really going on. We have had apparent ftl capabilities for decades. Secondly the theory works because we have many practical technologies from it. It also satisfies all 5! Forces of nature beautifully, if you do not believe me. Do research into Heim theory and see for yourself.

  • "there is no secret government, all the nations that represent the UN are aware of these vessels"

    Not public political opinion...

Anyway, I'm not suggesting you are wrong, but you would be wrong to suggest that I would need to do research. I understand that YT comments are too short to go into detail, but your responses are self-contradictory.

That you need to state "I am telling you what is really going on" is verging on hubris.

Stating that EVERY 'ufo', ever, is man-made is rather telling.

  • nice vid! reminds me of "hunt for red oktober" but MHDs are not very efficient... right?

ah and btw: creepy noises in your movies are nerving... =(

  • Thxs, Sean, ;=/

  • can you send me that vidéo in my e-mail for my account please.

  • to do what with it?

  • too big 100Mo.

  • It would require an anode and cathode with very very low resistance/bandgap in order for the e- to separate from the Ions and conduct up through the circuit. You would only be able to produce extremely low currents (nano or at best microamps), unless the water was moving really really fast or you had a gizillion electrodes. Wouldn't be worth it economically.

  • I wonder if this action would work in reverse. Meaning, if sea water is flowing somewhere, would this set up generate electricity? Or am I way off the page here? I like the idea of no moving parts (ie. hydroelectric).

  • what means WTF?

  • wtf? wtf means what the fuck =/

  • I think the explanation of the coffee cup demo is the right hand rule, thumb points in the direction of current flow, fingers curl in the direction of the magnetic field.

  • yes ! very good !

  • REVERSE??? WTF???

  • cool!

  • what the fuck?!?!?!

has anyone heard of the "Venus Project", mentioned in the Zeitgeist documentaries? that would fit PERFECTLY well in there!!!! DAMN! excellent demo

  • @chermonaraine

    that's the B2 technologie

  • Nice!! can you run it backward, letting salt water run through the MHD as a generator like an elctronic turbine of some sort...?

  • Knowing how long this tech has been around for makes me think what have we now that we dont know of..like flying craft that use time differentials and manipulation of gravity waves.

  • mate this has nothing to do with aliens or any of that conspiracy crap you wacko's are into, it's just well documented physics.

nothing abnormal or supernatural here, stuff you SHOULD have learnt in high school

  • I hear their Caterpillar drive on the sonar, captain! It's the Red October! :o

  • ah so thats what the red october was about

  • Awesome film, ain't seen it for years. I must find my dvd now lol

  • this is known as lorenz force, it is used in electromagnetic linear accelerators, very useful if designed correctly.

  • never thought of that application... nice!

  • Very cool!

  • thisis cool man i am impressed to the fifth power

  • holy shit, i thot that this was SCI-FI stuff, like the catepillar propulsion system in red october, or maybe some other cold war sub movie. i never thought it was possible, they said no moving parts, i just didnt see how that was possoble!

  • this is just a wild guess but is he using electro-magnets and creating a magnetic field in the water causing the current?

  • @InFeRnO954:

You need a magnetic field (H or B) and charged particles with velocity v (In this case a current of and salt ions going from copper plate to copper plate). The resulting force F will be F = q(E + v x H) where x is a cross product. You can see why such a force emerges when you do a lorentz-transformation into the inertial frame where the salt ions have velocity zero. The H field will transform into an E field and why the E field causes the charged particles to accelerate is clear.

  • wtf????

  • i dunno what happened but...subscribed !

  • Great stuff. I'm wondering if it works in water could it work in the vacuum of space? If so then the craft would continue to speed up with no limit....

  • No such luck. It is creating a current of water which is movie the boat.

  • What????!!!!

  • the type of motor to electromagnetic propulsion of that type had been assumed like silent propulsion on the nuclear submarines very 20 years ago, in order is not made to take of sonar, however optimal idea.

  • electricity yes for electrodes !but imagine=

aerogenerator=electricity to electrolize sea water and hydrogen fuel cell or solar panel !

    Frederic sauvage???

  • Hey I knew it could be done! Have you seen my washer launcher / can crusher? I know water like aluminum reacts to a magnetic field and have tried to produce a electric squirt gun without any success.

  • This better not be fake okay? If this is really real then this prototype of yours could prove affective for Naval Purposes as long as it is safe to use and dosen't harm anything including itself.

  • Its been done... its too slow right now... we need superconductivity at ambient temps. en. wikipedia. org/wiki/Yamato_1

  • Hi!

Another fascinating thing from you! Thank you for sharing!

I am not sure if your calculations are right though, but I will check again.

And also, the efficience is very low, right? 2.5 Amp x 30 Volts = 75 Watt to move water at this rate is ehm.... not so good .

    But, interesting anyway!

This also doesnt work in fresh water, that's a pity.

    Keep up the good work!

    Richard

  • What is that round black thing with the Red Wire on it in the Coffee Mug?

    Thank you.

    Great Video!!

    .

  • you will kill sea life with that, and if you fall, did you think of it?

  • Propellers kill sea life too. However, since its DC current the electricity goes driectly from one electrode to the other so if contained with each end covered with a non conductive screen to keep sea life (and people that have fallen over board) out it should be pretty safe infact maybe even more safe than a propeller.

  • OMG, this is one of the most fantastic things I've seen in the science youtube channel. I don't get how you made this possible but it gives us all a glimpse of the future. I already saw a bladeless fan that works with the same principle and is about to be used in portable devices for cooling. It seems like electro magnetics is the future of propulsion

  • "sounds of the sea"

  • Additionally use an ironcore backplate to

the 2 magnets, so the shape of the magnets

inclusive backplate becomes a "C" - like shape.

Then you justhave a small water-"air"-gap,

where you have the strongest field density.

Also then try to use strong 1000 Volts pulses and generate a water plasma, so that it will burn.

This will generate even more thrust.

Have a look at the water arc therads in my overunity forum.

    Regards, Stefan.

  • have you replicate some MHD experiment ?

  • I know how last model works. Ion in magnetic field want to go in circle. since water can long tranfer electic in ion form there are plently of ions.

  • Hi,

    great results,

I proposed this also in my overunity com forum

and now you already have built it!

This is the future of boat drives.

Please try to use higher voltages with just pulses, maybe just use the Back EMF of a coil to get more force out of this setup.

Any please try stainless steel plates as

    electrodes.

Many thanks and good luck !

    Regards, Stefan.

  • thanks ! but i try to use a big discharge of current (capacitor)beteween the electrodes ! not high voltage ! the high field of magnets

0.7 to 1 tesla in continue is good! so the coil is not good to see the results by pulse !

stainless steel plates ! yes good !

give me your adress of your site !

    many thanks !

  • Okay, I opened up a topic about your work over here:

    overunity . com / index . php? topic = 6407

Remove the spaces in the above URL.

    Many thanks.

  • hello

thanks for all your instructions but I try to connect your site

    but username and passeword??

    and your index forum.....??

explain me to connect your site

    thanks

  • Wouldn't this require a motor to make the electricity to power the magnets?

  • electricity yes for electrodes !but imagine=

aerogenerator=electricity to electrolize sea water and hydrogen fuel cell or solar panel !

  • Ohh my! Now this is something that blew me away! WOW, i have seen your plasma-setup, but i could never ever imagine that it could move water, which is soo heavy in comparison! Absolutely fantastic setup!! ok.. some questions:

1: Does Voltage have any effect on the process, or just Amperage? ( from your formulas i suspect NO but I ask anyway)

2: Will the permanent magnetic field become weaker by using it ?

3:Is there a improvement by having a magnet on TOP and BOTTOM (magnets are aligned)

  • oh and i forgot,last question:

4: Can Amps be generated if the water flows ?

For example if you have a water container on a height and flow the water through a plastic pipe attached to the "motor".. will it act as a generator instead ???

  • As I heard they're planing to. But, then again, they like it better when we have to pay astronomic prices for the oil, don't they :)

  • That is very cool

has anyone ever made these motors in life size scale before ?
