But the statement from the organisers said they intended to shut the power station. Such a statement undermined the whole protest and gave the police ample justification to use a wide range of powers. You shot yourselves in the foot by declaring such a thing.

It's also worth bearing in mind that the police will have a database of (a minority who attended no doubt) 'extremists' in the same way they will for the minority of football hooligans who spoil it for everyone else at football matches.
