Prism successfully got my mind to a new level as did JIMI (yes back in the day) and guess what I am Still Living and the world missed out on both counts sad but true.
On Sunday, March 6, 2011, Prism's Spaceship Superstar was chosen as the wakeup song for the Space Shuttle Discovery crew members. This was a significant point in history as it was the last day that the crews of the Space Shuttle Discovery and the International Space Station were together before Discovery returned to earth in the last mission of the shuttle Discovery
I remember when this song was released and it was huge in Canada, people didn't look at the Province that this band came from it was a Canadian tune that rocked, so why all the crap about B.C., Alberta, or any Province and which is better, i am Canadian i listen too everything from the fiddle music in the east, french folk in Quebec, cultural music from Ontario and Indie music from the west, also one of the best concerts i saw was Prism and Teaze,B.C. and Ontario wow who cared where they're from
@cashbankscarface I dont know, its a balance, Alberta has the cheapest everything, taxes, rent etc, but B.C. there isnt as many murders as there are in E town. Oh and Alberta supports the majority of the Canadian economy, so without us, The americans wouldnt have fuel and Canada would suck
@TheMadDooby And it is a sorry state if Alberta is the only ecomony we have in Canada, at most they can produce maybe 5% of the oil the Americans use, if that is the case it is a sad fact, the rest of Canada is adjusting to not having oil and gas, but if that is all we have is oil to produce most of our GDP then we are in trouble, that means we produce nothing but raping the earth and polluting then we are no better then a 3rd world nation.
@cindyns1 It takes alot more than that to be a third world nation, And im pretty damn sure we create more than 5% of America's oil. I hope your not one of those enviromental freaks that believes the oil sands do more bad than good. Oil is what is making the world go round, Its an extremely corupt market, They hinder the studies of alternate fuel sources for obvious reasons. Its like investing in cancer reasearch, im pretty sure they have a cure as long as you have the cash. Think steve jobs
@TheMadDooby No i all stated was that if that is the majority of Canada's GDP then we are in big trouble, and i know humans will destroy life on Earth from greed, there is no argument there, what i mean from 3rd world is that people in 3rd world depends on natural resources for their standard of living, not innovation, not science, etc etc etc. i don't mean our standard or quality of living.Canada tells Brazil not too cut the rain forest but then yes we are one of the worst polluters on earth.
@cindyns1 We are very far from the worst polluters on earth. Have you ever been to China? We are one of the better countries when it comes to pollution. And our country, our western way of life depends heavily on the use of computers and Science. Third world countries dont have well established Governments, Poverty and disease run rampant. To call Canada a third world country in any aspect is like saying gas isnt flammable. We are top three best places to live
@TheMadDooby yeah you do have a point about China, i am not saying Canada is a 3rd world nation far from it, but then the base of the economy is resource based, and as far as R&D in Canada it is a joke, talk too any professor in Canada, we spend so little on R&D in Canada it is patheic, but that is another story.anyway i am still a proud Canadian. by the way how did Prism - Spaceship Superstar get us to be going on about Canada's economy must be a Canadian thing not saying anything negative.
sounds like travis got fired from his job as a dishwasher in alberta and had to move back into his moms basement , and really travis you must have missed high times article on calgary hydroponic weed , I would rather smoke that than bc dirt weed anyday, back in the late 70's Calgary hydro was around 10 % thc . it is probably much higher now . B.C. have the worst drivers in the country too. B.C. is canada's alabama/arkansas and oklahoma all rolled into one . hence the dishwasher remark.

NASA: The crews of Discovery and the space station awoke at 3:23 a.m. EST on March 6th 2011 with “Spaceship Superstar” by Prism, played for the whole crew.
I love this song, and had forgotten about it for many years. The way I found it was that I was majoring in music and on a final exam the instructor put this song as a joke for identifying the era. I liked it and asked him what it was, and he told me. What a great song. This is one of the more obscure progressive rock groups. Everybody's heard of Yes, but Prism? This is a name you can drop to show you know your stuff.
Let me see if I can remember .......Cottage country, long weekends, hot summers beer, dope and awsome CANADIAN CHICKS. And of course tunes. Yeah I remember now.
Prism was a great band from the late 70's early 80's....to bad they died when Ron Tabak died.....heavy sigh! His vocal talents have never been duplicated... :(
A song from the exact same year (I think) which has similar synth-backing is Foreigner's "Feel's Like the First Time". (Maybe you could compare it to Manfred Mann's "Blinded by the Light" too).
This song sounds a lot like Bryan Adam's "Hidin' From Love", the first song of his first album, 1980. But this song was written before Prism's association with the Adams/Vallance songwriting team.
Seems clear that this band had an influence on Adam's music.
Come to think of it, what other rock band at this point (1977) used that type of synth-loop in their songs? There can't have been many. The song generally has the feel of the 80s band "Starship" or similar 80s bands.

"Hey guys, i am 17, and i think that old rock is the best!!! :D" immitating all you fucking people that do this, seriously, good for you for being young, so am i... STFU
@Taraborn i know we as young people will keep it alive, all my friends and i listen to the same stuff, i know us young people listen to it, and i find it annoying that people post their age, i dont know why, i just think its stupid... and i am not afraid of its fate, i am apart of the younger generations keeping it alive \m/
I'm 49 and am amazed on how many young kids listen to 80's music. I have two engineering students working for me every summer and despite being about 20 they are still familiar with the 80's song. One corrected me the other day when Aerosmith came on and I misidentified the song at the start as being Dream On.
@Ionizap Im 17 and as much as i hate to admit it infront of my dad i love this kinda of music as well. You can;t beat the classics and the baby boomer era.
Saw these guys with Lake and Robin Trower at the KSHE-95 (St. Louis, MO) 10th anniversary concert at the old Checkerdome. What a great night and what great memories! Rock on!
What a fantastic band. They didn't recieve NEARLY as much fame and credit as they should have for such fantastic music! Such classics will never be forgotten!
@Turnitloud Im 17, and thats the thing I always worry about. I am catching most bands on their last couple of tours like Paul McCartney, ACDC, and Rush but not long and most of these bands will be gone and its scarry. There are not any bands that have the same passion as back then. I can just hope that Rock and Roll can be saved!
LOL....I'm 59 and was doing the night club scene back in the day....check out Young and Restless.......its great to hear from Heyguy.....keep it going dude.....

"Hey guys, i am 17, and i think that old rock is the best!!! :D" immitating all you fucking people that do this, seriously, good for you for being young, so am i... STFU
TheLeeHolland 1 year ago
@TheLeeHolland well I'm only 3 and I think that 80s rock is the best, so don't be afraid about its fate. We young people will keep it alive.
Taraborn 1 year ago
@Taraborn i know we as young people will keep it alive, all my friends and i listen to the same stuff, i know us young people listen to it, and i find it annoying that people post their age, i dont know why, i just think its stupid... and i am not afraid of its fate, i am apart of the younger generations keeping it alive \m/

Both of those band play good, but they're way to poncy and snub their fans alot. Full of themselves.

What a fantastic band. They didn't recieve NEARLY as much fame and credit as they should have for such fantastic music! Such classics will never be forgotten!

SilverBullet93GT 1 year ago 2
@Turnitloud Im 17, and thats the thing I always worry about. I am catching most bands on their last couple of tours like Paul McCartney, ACDC, and Rush but not long and most of these bands will be gone and its scarry. There are not any bands that have the same passion as back then. I can just hope that Rock and Roll can be saved!
