@AngelofChaos6688 They would both win, they would 'go where no man has gone before', Patrick's Enterprise-D would go to warp up William's Enterprise-A
@VinnyMonster1 The characters are space veterans and heroes. They would look down on the actors, like every body should. Acting is just above prostitution.
@baalisgod666 That is quite the Victorian attitude you have there. Actors are entertainers, I assume you think the same of other entertainers, such as singers, magicians, ect.
In the 60's Star Trek and Doctor Who changed the face of sci-fi forever, decades later and they are both beloved and have grown a big fandom, America had Star Trek and Britain had Doctor Who and I love them both
"Zombies of the Stratosphere" was a 50's-era "Commando Cody" serial, and Stewart's "Zombies from Outer Space" was released under the title "Lifeforce" in 1985. Just so ya know.
It's interesting how little of the production side of things at least Shatner & Nimony know about Trek... for example, the sets *weren't* struck after each film. In fact, during the years while TNG was airing and TOS movies were being made (5, 6 & Generations), production was scheduled for Next Gen's "Summer Break" between seasons and the TNG sets were "remade" into sets for the TOS films.
@ascot121 This always pisses me off. "Science Fantasy" is a sub-genre of science fiction. Star Wars had super-advanced technology, aliens, spaceships, robots, alien planets, ghosts, etc. It IS science fiction. It's science fiction like supernatural horror, for example, is science fiction. SF deals with the impossible. People who say what you just said are ignorant of what science fiction is. Not all of it fits your narrow definition.
It's like saying "I'm not native American. I'm Cherokee."

Interesting no one mentioned Dr Who in this "history of sci fi" chat. Not even the Englishman. Who preceded Trek, but not by much: two or three years.
@disamjisa I think they may have been tactfully avoiding the question (or they simply didn't understand it). I mean, here you have these two actors (Stewart & Franks) and they may have held quite strong feelings against TNG after the movies that Shatner personally directed and/or starred in. If he and Nimoy were to say, "We held strong issues... listed examples" would that be something 'fans', a much larger, and more sensitive issue (as we heard) would benefit from hearing? No, I think not.
@disamjisa Moreover, Nimoy and Shatner are actors too. It's a 'craft' and they hold respect for others' careers. I suspect they were trying to be polite and not say, "Oh! You ruined the franchise! I never would have xxx".
I suspect they didn't answer for a reason, especially, with how eager Franks piped up and wanted an answer almost as badly as a drooling, heart stricken fan. Don't attribute to malice that which can be explained by ignorance or other things.
@Dragoon91786 I don't think it's malicious, I just think they're slightly more self-absorbed than Sir Patrick and Frakes; it didn't occur to them she was asking about how they felt about TNG. I think the self-absorbtion is kind of demonstrated by the fact that they never even watched an episode of TNG; it's a bit of a slap in the face, I think.
And I don't, personally, think Bill Shatner is a great actor, perhaps not even as good an actor as Jonathan Frakes.
I must look for these zombie movies. It boggles the mind at how awesome it would be to see a young Patrick Stewart and Leonard nimoy in a zombie movie together. O_O
They didn't destroy the sets. In fact several elements of the sets built for Star Trek The Motion Picture were still being used during 2001 for Voyager's last season. Besides, Shatner writes about this in his own book, "Star Trek Memories."
nimoy is the the one who appreciate the fans the most i suspect, i dont like steward he is kinda a asshole . franks i dont know about and shatner seems a little fakie .
@myfriendangel1 Frakes is the best. if you watch any of the conventions he was in he was the most intouch with the fans.
he is the only one who seems to really love the show. he remembers all the episode names and all the details. and he seems like he really loves being part of it and he loves the fans
@LibertineDeSade if u liisten to people talk and watched there actions and look beyond what you see or someone presents to people you are able to see the true person we need to do more of this in the world
@myfriendangel1 That's not true at all. How can you look beyond what you see when it comes to someone you don't know and never even met in real life??? What you're doing is making judgments based on your perceived notion of what kind of people these are, based on how they are in public. But the fact remains, you don't know any of them. You don't know what they're like privately and how they are with their loved ones. We actually need LESS of this judging in the world.
@LibertineDeSade when a judgement on someone that makes them try and be better and makes them think about themselfs just listen to these guys they are making fun of fans and please dont think hollywood celebs dont go behind close doors and talk badly about people they do . i dont care for celebs they are over paid and worthless anyway.but when i see the badness in people i try and let them see it so they can be better
@LibertineDeSade So true. A veneer is just that, what's underneath could be... anything, rotting wood, a worthless slab of rock, a piece of cardboard, solid sawdust or cyanide, anything. You cannot "look beyond" a veneer just by looking at it. You have to live in contact with the other side of the material to know what it is. I've known people with a "great guy" public image, gregarious and generous, "just the nicest guy", who were the most inhuman, sadistic, utterly selfish, destructive people.
they didn't answer the question. Whoopi asked them how they felt when they heard about the new series and they skipped right over that, Leonard and Bill talk about what happened after their show and the movies, but not their response to 'The Next Generation'. But maybe that's also because they were keeping their version alive through the movies. TNG was an addition, not a substitution. Enriching the universe. And it doesn't seem they object to that. Probably as long as they get paid! ;)
This is cool. I always heard that Stewart and Shanter didn't get along, but they seem fine here. And while I didn't care for DS9 or VOY, I'd like to see a special like this with just Shatner, Stewart, Brooks, Mulgrew, and Bakula all sitting around talking about TREK, their involvement, their reaction/perception of the series, and sci-fi in general. THAT would be awesome!
Patrick looks stoned, like he just smoked a big Joint before the show, lol! Okay, if so, they all smoked the big joint, but Patrick Stewart looks like he just hit the last pull of the joint, his eyes are so closed, damn!:)
