That's what they are designed to do. Seperate the engine compartment from the roll cage. In the early years, the front-engined dragsters (engines would blow up and the driver would get the worst of it). A ton of new safety regulations came after "Big Daddy's Don Garlit's" moving the engine to the rear of the frame. That's why alot of drivers can now walk away from some serious wrecks.
