  • This one goes to Nuno, he's such an underrated player whose got some crazy skill on both electric and acoustic. The guys a musical genius, Nuno all the way!

  • LUAP TREBLIG SAH A ELTTIL EROM LEEF OT SIH GNIYALP

  • nuno

  • equal

  • completely different guitarists, but Nuno's position is kinda similar to Marty Friedman when he is compared with Jason Becker.

  • im a fan of both Paul and Nuno, but i actually consider Nuno is the best guitarist when it comes to creativity/emotion/techniques. well technical ability/speed, maybe Paul is a little more experienced, but Nuno got a musical sence by nature i guess. i love his music better. complex funky riffs, tasteful shredding, and memorable phrasing and solos with emotion.

  • esta muy mal comparar, dos guitarristas de este nivel, pero nuno es mucho mas completo en todos los aspectos.

  • Numero Uno = Nuno

  • Gilbert without any doubt.

  • racer X , Mr Big , great solo albums like burning organ , or the new one fuzz universe. nuno is great but paul is just better in everything

  • gilbert is just a guitar player, and any song he tries to write is not that good, dont get me wrong i like the guy but im going with nuno on this one,

  • They're both flashy, fast with no soul guitar players......what's the fucking difference?

  • @moJomittens obviously you have never done any homework on either of these players.

  • @durtyrckstr : Dude I been listenin gto these guys since you were in diapers...stfu..I even met Paul Gilbert and had a jam session with him in 96 namm in Nashville....

  • Nuno bettencourt's playing has more creativity I think, in terms of skill there probably isnt anything to split them...

  • Nuno ripped Gilbert a new asshole at the end!

  • @joegarzaguitars Do you know what song that is??? He played that solo and riff at a guitar clinic back in 1991...what track is that? If anyone knows please tell me.haha

  • @codebabe Yeah type in Nuno Bettencourt where's the hook. It's an instrumental with that soloXD

  • @codebabe Yeah, it's Nuno Bettencourt Too much of a good thing (Where's the hook) It's an instrumental by Nuno.

  • @joegarzaguitars That is one ass-kicker of a performance. I don't think I've ever heard anyone shred that tasetfully and with so many great riffs. He really is in a league of his own. It's a shame more people can't understand that Extreme were a good band. I love his riffs.

  • i like more the sound that Nuno can produce. Its more perfect. work means nothing..technicians are a complement..the true essence of a musician is the sound that he can extract from instrument, and in that part, Nuno is better. Dont kill me...I live in a free country. (I think )

  • ahh, two of the most awesome guitarists, who got famous when they were in poprock bands.... i love nuno's funky rhythms and fast solos... but i think paul gets my vote...

  • PAINT THE TOWN RED..NUNO

  • Nuno, bro'.

  • TOTALLY NUNO

  • whats the name of the song nuno's third solo (2:05) in?

  • whats the name of the song nuno's third solo (2:05) in?

  • I think a better match up would be Nuno and Marty Friedman.

  • All a matter of individual taste and perception. Two amazingly talented, gifted guitar artists. I prefer one to the other. NUNO does it for me!

  • technical ability its gilbert, BUT nuno is a far better muso by a million miles and comes across far better than gilbert does on guitar. Proof is in the pudding, mr.big "lean into it" vs Extreme's Pornograffiti....The winner by K.O. NUUUNOOOOOO

  • Batio for life

  • nunooooooo

  • i think that anyone who understands a bit of music composition.. and guitar playing.. and who KNOWS all of the work, I MEAN ALL, of both these 2 great guitar players,

MUST ADMIT that NUNO is way SUPERIOR.. TECHNICALLY THEY ARE CLOSE.. BUT IN TERMS OF originality, creativity, style, NUNO WINS, NO DOUBT.

(and i like both of them)

  • Comment removed

  • Who gives?! Everyone likes who they like... you haven't set the criteria for this 'play-off'... ! If it's 'best slow blues feel' then neither win, if it's 'jazz soloing' then also both are at the bottom of the class... if it's 'making utter jackasses of hundreds of shred-nerds' then both are exceptional! GROW UP GUYS, YOU'RE GIVING CREDIBLE MUSICIANS A BAD NAME..." I think Clapton wins, and Joe Pass comes 2nd followed by Django then Ty Tabor and Jeff... how stupid does it sound... honestly?!

  • Nuno's riffs are way more noticable, interesting and more musical. Nuno for me. Solo's are just showing off. It's all about the song.

  • The thing that makes both of these guitarists very hard to compete is that they both have their own style and you can hear it in their playing. Nuno sounds like Nuno, Paul sounds like Paul, and if you are able to do that than you shouldn't be compared with other people lol. But their both great and i love listeneing to their music and this was a good match up of guitarists.

  • NUNO IF YOU CANT SEE THAT YOUR STUPID. NUNO IS THE BEST HANDS DOWN...THE BEST. BEST SONGWRITER, BEST FUNKY MELODIC SOLOER, TECHNICAL, FAST, SEXY, I WOULD RAPE THIS MAN...AND IM A MAN.

  • @scottvineyard7 Ha! Can we make it a threesome? Thx for the laugh, Scott!

  • Cus we all know your little penor ain't getting no actiooon

  • @scottvineyard7 Crude little dude, aren't you? Don't you worry 'bout my action, sweetie. I'm quite content.

  • @BrendaMidnightMoon I thought you were making fun of my post. I usually get pretty crude from this. sincerest apologies about my large penis.

    I would fuck nuno he's a god.

  • @scottvineyard7 Promise ... was not making fun of your post. Just an attempt at humor suggesting that, should you ever get your man-paws on Nuno, you might just share him with me! But not really. Anonamously, I talk a big talk. In person .... uh, not so much. BTW, "large" is a comparative adjective. You could be talking about comparison to a mouse or a horse. Why guys so obsessed w/this body part? Don't know how you fellas walk around w/those things! Part II coming up ..............

  • @scottvineyard7 Saw your instructional video. You're very good; I was impressed. Then again, I'm easily impressed ... and fooled. Jupiter, Roman God. Zeus, Greek God. Nuno, Guitar God! Scott ..... future guitar god? Keep on practicing, kid. Good luck in all your playing and song writing efforts.

  • NUNOOO !!! \m/

  • Nuno and Paul are my absolute favourite guitarists together with David Gilmour (I know it's weird, but it makes sense to me :) ) and I love their goofyness and humour while playing together with exceptionell skills. Gilmour may be god of guitars, but these guys are good princes.

  • WHAT SONGS PLAYING AT 2:07 its EPIC plz someone answer!!!

  • @shr00mz420 Its from 'Too Much of a Good Thing (Where's the Hook)'

  • @shr00mz420

licks from "he man woman hater" and "decadence dance" played slow

  • @shr00mz420

licks from "he man woman hater" and "decadence dance" played pretty slow

  • @shr00mz420 Nuno-Too Much of A Good Thing

  • both amazing

  • Paul gilbert compared with nuno Is a flea

    And i'm from portugal

  • Why actually "fight", can't we just be together as musicians and have fun? =D

  • paul gilbert the best

    maestro de la guitarra

  • @MrStrike77 your a fucking idiot

  • Nuno's section at 2:07. what song is that from?

  • What is that song at 0:30?

  • @Medalion Flight of the wounded bumblebee. Its in the beggining ofhe man woman hater

  • Both are amazing, one (Nuno) is underestimated, but I think guitarists with best taste are Andy Timmons, Eric Johnson and especially Stevie Ray Vaughn

  • Nuno wins. I marvel at Paul's awesome speed and dexterity - he could play anything, as fast as you like and oh so cleanly - he is a technical guitar wizz, no question. But Nuno has better taste and that's what is important in the end.

I watch Paul on youtube in awe, but I BUY Nuno's records because his tunes are kick ass funky rock cool.

  • Who can defeat Gilbert???, maybe Becker

  • @Devilathor Only if beck could still move;/

  • Comment removed

  • The best is, wait for it..., Ya mum. lol jk

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaan Paul Gilbert wins

  • I gotta say- for me its a tie. Not that this video presents any merit to even compare. I like the sound of everything together.. I might rip it, and just listen to it all day :)

  • My vote goes to Nuno. He is a better musician overall. He`s a way better song writer, producer and his riffs are way better than Paul`s. Most of Extremes success was based around Nuno`s ability to play a wicked riff but also solo around it. Paul is just a great soloist but wears those stupid headphones to isolate stage noise like fans cheering etc. This leaves him de-void of energy. When I saw him live he looked almost bored.

  • @rmtdrums In case you didn't know, Paul wears those 'stupid headphones' because he has Tinnitus and kind of has to if he wants to continue to hear.

  • @NuMetalBeDamned Thanks. I wasn't aware he suffered with Tinnitus I thought it was to block out the loud stage volume, and they allow him to have the perfect mix at the perfect level. I know Jeff Beck has Tinnitus but chooses to wear Doc's Pro-Plugs which are almost invisible but do the same thing and don't make you look stupid.

  • @rmtdrums Most of Extreme's success? They were no more succesful that Mr Big.

  • @MrXorHomer Try reading my comment again idiot. I'm not comparing either bands success.

  • Nuno's style is more original. Gilbert probably knows more theory and is probably more technically skilled.

  • paul still the pick master ...nuno just to much picking other man penis

  • NUNOS THE ONE BABY

  • I'm sorry I'm a dedicated Nuno fan, but Damn Paul can shred. I think he's ahead by a note or 30.

  • Nuno is good, and a much better tapper than Paul, but I think when it comes to alternate picking, Paul blows nuno out of the water completly. Paul is also a bit tighter of a player than Nuno. I like Paul more so I may be biased.

  • what are you all talking about :D

they are both sick sick, very sick bastards in their own way and I LOVE IT

  • Paul is hyper good, but Nuno wins

  • are you fucking joking... Nuno cannot compare even close to Paul Gilbert...

  • live performance: Paul , Chord Progressions: Nuno,Scale Progressions: Paul,Heart Touching: Nuno , Guitar Tutorial: Paul ,note choice: Nuno, character: Paul , improvisation Nuno , Guitar equipment: Paul ,Ground Technique : Royce Gracie ,Winner ???

  • test test

  • Completely different styles, they're both excellent players in their own way. Gilbert will always be known for his picking technic and Nuno did bring something new to the 90's guitar player.

  • Definately Nuno, not just speed but substance. What about the solo to Get the Funk Out, utter brilliance!

  • Nuno is Better, its only need to said that he is from açores, PORTUGAL. xDDDD

  • whats that tune at 2:10?

  • @URchemist Too Much Of A Good Thing

  • tapping: nuno

    sweeping: paul

    fastest: hum...paul

also as it has been wrote many times nuno uses better legato whereas paul hits ALL the note (which isn't necessarily more difficult)

someone also wrote that at this level of technic it's a matter of what style who like the most.

    personnaly....maybe ....nuno

  • @Sanchoplayer Paul RARELY uses sweeps but he plays arpeggios with string skipping which nuno also does well (play with me solo, and it's a monster solo) This is so hard. They are both amazing.

  • Huge fan of both players, but as a guitar player myself, I gotta go with Paul Gilbert. His work on any album he did with the band RACER X would solidify him as one of the greatest guitar players of all-time. Simply amazing stuff on those albums. Nuno's best work is Pornograffiti and it pretty much ends there. Besides, I get tired of Flight Of The Wounded Bumble Bee. That solo is actually annoying. I do like the stuff he does on Extreme's 1st album but whatever.. Gilbert wins in close match...

  • @thecoldnovrain89 Is it really? hmmmmm... OK buddy what ever you say.

  • @NationalMan Nvm, I messed up, I heard from a bad source. I researched it and It is nuno. But don't call me buddy, sport.

  • @thecoldnovrain89 it really makes no sense that Nuno wouldn't be the one to record bumble bee on an Extreme album. Why would you even say that? LOL!!

  • @NationalMan If you look on Dweezil Zappa's Wiki it says he did make a guest appearance on he-man woman hater.

  • @NationalMan LISTEN TO MOURNING WINDOWS, DRAMAGODS, POPULATION ONE, THE SOLO STUFF, IN TERMS OF CREATIVITY, DIVERSITY, EXPLORATION OF DIFFERENT GENRES, NUNO IS WAY MORE INTERESTING, MY OPINION OF COURSE.

  • @bottazzo77 Rage talk? I THINK YES!

  • @NationalMan That's not true man. Nuno's best playing is on three sides to every story. Rest in Peace, Warheads, Am I Ever Gonna Change, Cupid's Dead(by far some of the most technical funk rhythm playing ever), Politicalamity, i could go on and on. that album is a guitarist's wet dream.

  • hahahahahahahah Chuck Norris?????? hahahahahahaha WTF?? HAHAHAHA THAT SH*T WAS THE BEST!

  • I would vote but when you vote by nuno eg, one or at least I say that as I vote for this and my other side says as I will not vote for the other then stated that the two are very hilltops

  • definitely nuno, he's just the best here, my work is done

  • paul's a virtuoso, can't compare him to anyone

  • What's the name of the Bettencourt piece at 2.08?

  • @Ibeenez That song is called "Too much of a good thing, (wheres the hook?)" There is a video of it on YT so just do a search. You'll find it. :)

  • NUNO!!!!!

  • Never choose sides, cause really there both good in diffrent ways. So yeah I love em both, could never take etheir one over one. Ugh enough said bye fan boys fuck you to

  • Both have had number 1 hits for their song writing ability which means they would still be great musicians even if two of their fingers fell off

  • @paulbateman I won't argue your main point, but you pretty much just said that any one who has had a number 1 hit is a great musician. xD

  • @paulbateman I won't argue your main point, but you pretty much just said that any one who has had a number 1 hit is a great musician. xD.

  • I have to ask, is there something particularly more efficient in having a headstock backwards or forwards? On these really nice guitars, I see alot of them turned backwards.

  • I think Paul Gilbert pushes his technique more.. but Nuno is so good that he could probably learn anything Gilbert can play pretty easily.. Nuno has a great creative streak with his incorporation of Funk into metal which is kind of a style that he created. Both are great but when they are at such a high level of technique, it becomes a matter of whose style you prefer, and on that score I'll take Nuno any day. And no.. Malmsteen is not better than either of them, even though i like him too.

  • Its a tie. Either one of them could fill each other's shoes!

  • but yngwie malmsteen takes a huge crap on them both

  • I love both but paul gilbert plays way faster effortlessly.

  • BUCKETHEAD FTW

  • no offense to nuno but paul gilbert is the biggest baddest rock monster in the whole forest of shred

  • not even a contest,,pg all the way...at least use someone like guthrie govan to compare

  • Chuck Norris is so fast that the human ear can no longer hear individual notes and titanium picks are the only ones that don't melt.

  • both are great... i love extreme, but i have to said Paul Gilbert. he is the best ever!!

    PG FTW!

Ridiculous! compare with Paul Gilbert and Nuno Bettencourt this can only be a Portuguese idea. Paul Gilbert is one of the best guitarists of today, this guy Nuno Bettencourt are far from being compared to great guitar players.

  • @dataclick Tu como brasileiro so podias dizer mal do Nuno so por ser portugues !!

  • If the definition of 'better' is: based on one's speed/picking ability; then the answer is obvious-But, If you ask me, the subject in itself is a bit silly; certainly trite and most unfortunate-Moreover; speed does not constitute 'all facets' of technique-Most rock guitarists play over very basic progressions, which is fine, but I assure you - they would find it far more challenging to play so recklessly in: a prog/rock or a jazz format- showiness doesn't necessarily work in serving the song

  • I love Paul, and he's extremely accurate, but for a lot of his solos, he does basically wank scales. The reason I would say Nuno wins is because he steps outside of the boundaries of contemporary scales a lot.

  • @Fendershred50 I agreed with every think but what what you said about Paul G. and scales. listen to him on rusty old boat and dont rain on my firewood and bronx 1971 he plays any thing

  • @Shredderarea67Inject Yes I agree with you now, I now know a little more about guitar and I realized Paul does also step out of contemporary scales pretty often, but he's more creative in a shreddy way than in a songwriting way like Nuno.

  • Whats the song at 2:12?

  • Whats the song from 2:06-End?

  • @properpropeller Its From A Magazine And The Song Is Called "Too Much Of A Good Thing (Wheres The Hook)"

  • and the winner is.... Eddie Van Halen

  • Yes, Eddie is The Man! Better taste and more addictive songs, more ground breaking techniques in his day than either Gilbert or Bettencourt, and in the end I have almost all Van Halen's records, three of Extreme's and one of Pauls. All are great technicians, but Eddie is the best heart and soul musician.

  • when you become as good at something as these guys are at guitar theres no clear cut whos better its all a matter of personal taste music is art maybe i should post a picaso vs van gough

  • Gilbert sucks. F that tech shit. Ripping off Pete Townshend with the suit!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gilbert sux live.nunu is great in studio and live I love NUNO!!!!!!!!

  • Skill wise, Paul Gilbert by far, in terms of musicality it's pretty close, I have a preference with Paul Gilbert's work though.

  • I like Nuno's style.... both are best, but I like Nuno's arrangements...

  • I think Gilbert is better, but just by a little. I love them both.

    -Rocky James

  • Nuno es el mejor ii la verdad no conosco a paul gilbert pero pues toca bien

  • This Duel May ends in a Earth implosion

  • I like Nuno's playing, but he really is nowhere near Gilbert's league.

  • both super talented with picking control and as inspiring as any guitarist. Not real familiar with Gilbert's work, but Nuno's arrangements are pretty kick ass (monster, woman hater, etc).

  • love them both

  • I love Nuno's stuff. Not mad on Paul Gilbert's stuff but he is technically a better guitarist.

  • ok someone please tell me the songs for nuno.. I know wounded bumblebee but others I have heard but not like this.. its a monster solo I have heard but this is not the same as it is in the song, the backing etc etc,, so please people and especially the owner of this video.. can you send me these songs

  • @vikingorecolector.. please please tell me all the nuno solos that you have hear.. I have only heard the wounded bumblebee.. and nothing else.. please let me know.. thanks man.

  • pual gilbert wins

  • Nuno gets my vote. I not saying he is better than paul, I just like him better! :P

  • both great but for me its Paul Gilbert all the way, hes the biggest inspiration in my life

  • pretty obvious its paul gilbert... nuno cant play even remotely close to him.

  • Everything paul plays is his own two hands, that first nuno track sounds twice as fast as he's playing because of an effect he's using (complete fucking mental blank on what it is)

  • @MrPirate93 thats not true have you ever heard the echo song

  • @MrPirate93

Yeah I've seen the tab for it... there's a full delay on every note, so's he's effectively only playing half the notes.. Still tricky enough.

  • @timvancann zappa wrote(but not play) the riff after "no women allowed", he doesn't play the intro of the flight of the wounded bumblebee. That's nuno.

  • Quite frankly I think they both win

  • nuno is so...wow!!!

  • Comment removed

  • And the winner is: RISH ASTLEY

  • These two would make a KILLER album together. They are both two of the greatest guitarist EVER....but in my opinion Paul Gilbert gets the slight edge over Nuno. Id say because Paul Gilbert is slightly more technical. When you think about it..two of the greatest guitarist EVER....and their biggest hits being love songs/ballads.....didn't give their guitar playing any real room to shine. They are so much more talented than their hits!

  • It's preference. And nuno even said in a more than words performance "he always wins" he being Paul. I prefer nuno however.

  • Nuno is great but Gilbert wins this battle...

  • wtf... i mean... those "duels" are always stupid because... you know... this isn't a competition

but people saying nuno plays BETTER than paul gilbert?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

seriously... no?! how the hell can you find nuno technichally better than paul?

anyone who has ever touched a guitar should know who would win here if this was really a contest.... (in case you didn't get it... that would be Paul Gilbert)

  • @Picurs Of course gilbert is much more technical but nunp plays a whole lotta "cooler" an more groovy. And that's why he's awesooome : D

  • @w610iswitch

i don't think you've heard much from PG then... pg plays almost everything... i'm not just talking abouth technique... it's just that some people said nuno was better...

but on feel/groove/etc... i used to give PG way less credit than he deserved... then i started to listen to his stuff... for real

well... that pretty much changed what music means to me!

he plays everything... he composes on every way... he's not stuck to any form of playing... that's why he always wins =Pp

  • Nuno

  • both great guitar players but my vote goes for Nuno. GO NUNO!!!

  • Funny how the intro of He-man Woman Hater is in there... I always thought Dweezil Zappa played that part... could be wrong of course...

  • i like both very much....they both win..nuno also can play what paul play..they both talented guitarist...what they do in they're music awesome...i prefer nuno coz he so sexy and his music easy to listen..go funky go

  • paul just raped NUNO BADLY

  • GILBERT IS A LEGEND NUNO ISNT>> paul has done som much for guitar and is technically better.. and has created techniques.. 3'es for edward etc...

  • paul isnt as muscially inclined as gilbert.. PAUL. If you played you'd know that

  • I like NUNO!!!

  • NUNO GETS MY VOTE:)

  • Hm,John Petrucci :)
