He told this story when I was at Jeff Waters guitar clinic, and many other interesting storys. And why all this "Annihilator vs. Metallica" now..Jeff loves Metallica, and he said many good things about the band.
why the hell are you guys "arguing" about who's the better metal band? everythings great! both bands are amazing! jesus christ man, can we just team up and argue with K-POP or some stupid shit on MTV? im a metal head but did u guys know black eyed peas won the mtv award for ROCK? THE FUCK! ROCK!!! BULLSHIT THATS TECHNO FUCK THEM. i had respect for them when i was young, i take it back. fuck em. fuck everyone on MTV.
metallica fanboys are ridiculous. annihilator is obviously a better band. when that bus went down on that highway so did their career. ( RIP THE greatest metal bassist 62 - 86 )
Annihilato's 'Never, Neverland' was released on Sept. 12 1990. Metallica's demos for 'The Black Album' were recorded... one day later - on Sept. 13. 'Enter Sandman' was among them but with NO LYRICS. In fact, the song got its lyrics as the last one firstly being intented to talk about a child dying in its crib, nightmares were the second idea, so nothing really fits timewise.
It could fit easily. When the chorus to Enter Sandman was written OFF TO NEVER, NEVERLAND, it was after the release of Annihilator's record. The titleNever,Neverland was out int he press in late Spring 1990 and when Metallica finally wrote the lyrics, they could have changed the title to their song right up until the recording was long finished.
No question that metal god JAMES HETFIELD could have easily has that title around before but it is quite possible and makes sense that, if this was their big "hit-to-be", then their label would probably not want the title to be the same as another thrash metal record, out a year earlier, that was a big seller.
@anniafan If you look at A Year and A Half in the Life of Metallica, which you probably did, uncle Bob was sure that Sad But True was going to be the killer master song, not Enter Sandman... Although they both were a major success, Enter Sandman is still "bigger" than Sad But True. Anyway, what's my point? I don't know anymore... :p
Actually, in 'A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica', part one probably, Hetfield says the title had been around for longer. On the other hand, Hetfield's drinking problem was legendary back then, so who knows?
