It is a bit expensive, and so much so I am prowling for a schematic. I know most of the "special" BBD chips these FX companies have "specially built" which is usually with a weird pin out SMD, etc. MN3004, MN3005, MN 3007 and a MN 3101 clock to run one of the others and some good old VCOs or Function gen and another clock and you are half way there. The 570 compander is also great in these. The 571 and 572 are noisier. Having a friend who etches boards helps! I can do it myself, but why!
I think that either 1.) the settings he using are way too intense and have no use in any arsenal of sounds I would ever use or b.) I hate the sound of a chorus pedal. Either way I wouldn't buy this based on this video. I also own a boss chorus I plugged in about twice for five minutes, so maybe it's the latter, because I generally like PGS demos.
Always remember, modulation is like heroin, a little bit is fun but too much will kill you. This thing sounds great at moderate settings and as always, Andy, you do some of the best demos out there.
Is this line level? Can I use it my amp's effect's loop on the -10db setting along with my MXR and Boss pedals? I want everything to work together right. I dumped the rack gear and went back to pedals. This one looks pretty hard to beat. Thanks for all of the cool reviews!
I love all these videos and they're really helpful. My only criticism is that you guys never do any high gain demos. It'd be nice to hear this pedal, for example, through a Boogie Mark V or an Engl. Not everyone plays a Strat into a Fender Twin! :)
In my opinion, there's only one decent setting on this unit: 12 -12 -12 o'clock on chorus mode, in stereo. I used it for many years playing live in Austin through 2 Fender blackface Twins for a clean sound. It's a good sounding floor unit. I would go with a G-Force now though. The MXR stereo chorus sounds good for a floor unit too.
I found this in my friends garage, he gave it to me for my birthday cause of the huge lust I had for it. Its one of the older models and some of the pots don't work so the intensity kind of just goes on and off, I'm going to get it fixed up soon though.
@ProGuitarShopDemos Hey Andy, i dig the sound of the chorus but its simply too expensive for me. What pedal would you recommend to get a similar chorus sound to the famous TC Chorus??
Why is it that Boss and Digitech can power every one of their effects with one 9v battery and t.c. electronic still has a fixed AC cable? That may seem like a small detail, but it's a deal breaker for me. I've loved this pedal for years, but there's not always outlets at the front of the stage. It should be an easy engineering feat to build this pedal to take the common (Boss PSA120 type) AC adapter.
Oh well, I'm still mostly off chorus. The 80's scarred some of us more than others.
Why do guitar players whine about fixed AC cable as opposed to 9V battery power? A professional, or perhaps just a smart musician, would be prepared at a gig instead of bitching about this kind of thing. Perhaps the fixed AC and transformer are part of the design to improve headroom? Perhaps the sound of the pedal should be more important than the demands of a Lazy guitar player who simply can't bring a powerbar to a gig and needs everything to be powered of a Pedal Power 2.
Pedal power 2 actually HAS a 120v ac jack in the back... Now the only decent excuse is the lack of true bypass . ( I don't particularly like the TC buffer enough to have it on all the time.)
you should be more concerned about quality and headroom then about powercords. if you are a music loving guitarist, sound loving typ.....you live with the extra powercord that comes with it an enjoy the benefits of this unit. i own one myself and it has its moments every time it gets used.
i see it in the faces of my audience and i can hear it. the thing makes a wonderful sound and has some extreme sounds to offer as well. Listen to John Scofields extreme Chorus FX. That is the thing..
Listen to Trademark off of Ah Via MusicCom for a good example. Anybody else find the width cranked during most of the demo to be totally useless and annoying?
Greetings, I do a lot of worship playing for my church and I use this TC pedal with my F400 series yamaha (non solid top guitar) which has an LR Baggs Pickup with LR Baggs DI pedal and it sounds better than any other setup I've heard yet...dis the boss pedals for this one..it's the cleanest pedal I've ever had!
If Eric Johnson uses it, you automatically know it's good! I like it best on a super subtle setting, with a delay, to make it sound like tape echo 'warble'. Thanks for the demo!
you are wrong, you must have only played cheap strats, my strat has damn near the sustain of an LP, and no ground noise because of the noiseless PU's.
i agree I love my 89 Strat... i just get the Hot Noiseless pickups and make no damm HUM... and it has sustain like a LP.. and if you Strat has no that quantity of sustain i ll tell you some hints... when using overdrive effects adds a lot of sustain especiallly tube overdrive... also use a compressor that adds a lot of sustain i highly recommend the MXR SUper comp or the Dyna COmp... another goo hint for more sustain... is to calibrate the bridge good when it is not good calibrate. is shit...
I've recently re-aquired a T.C. Chorus and I LOVE the way it sounds although you have to really study it to get the sounds you want. Actually I must say that most of the sounds your getting on this demo are not what I personally like! The Chorus is the weakest and sounds great for stumming (.1 SPEED) and (6 WIDTH). For a great lush fingerpicking tone I like the Pitch Mod set to (.2-.5 SPEED)and (4-5 WIDTH). Again this is an AWESOME pedal.
I got one of these a month and a half ago, but still learning to get the most efficient use out of it (I like deep, rich, lush, swirly detuned chorus sounds, with both clean & crunch tones)
This is another wonder from TC electronic. I got this along with many other TC electronic pedals, the old ones from 80's. The new reissues are also very good, this pedal tho didnt change throughout time. Love them
at 6:17 it sounds like Polychorus
