  • Buick sold 46k units between the '77 and '78 model years with this generation of the Riv. Two tones were highly popular in the late 70's and this color combination is frequently seen on these cars. The front end was imitated on the '80 Regal.

  • @68prescott Thanks for the stats on the Riviera! The car sure was popular, and the fact that the Regal imitated the style suggests management knew it would be a selling point!

    Thanks! :) Jack

  • The transmissions are pretty tough too!

  • @erich84502ify Hey, Erich! It had the 3 speed Turbo Hydramatic 400! I'd say it was built to withstand the torque of those big motors. Thanks! :) Jack

  • The 403 engine in those are pretty tough motors!

  • @erich84502ify Hey, Erich! From what I see, they were Olds engines used in Pontiacs and Buicks too...they had really wide bores! Thanks! :) Jack

  • my mom had a 78 riv.it had every option 4 wheel disc breaks403 motor it was 2 tone silver with black int. she traded in for a 85 cadillic el do. it had the 4100ht motor it was a a pig slower than the 7 year itch. the rivera is under rated for some reason

  • @tryby12 Wow! That was a sad trade! Cadillac was having some problems at the time...a case where the make isn't as important as the model itself...the Riviera is a classic...all years! Thanks! :) Jack

  • nice car !! these cars must be very rare !

  • @midnitesquirldog Hey, Pauly! I would say it definitely is rare! Even more so in this kind of condition! Thanks!

    :) Jack

  • Nicer than any car I've seen on the road in years! Lucky person that got their hands on this stunning piece of machinery!

  • @Simon5005 Hey, Simon! It has a distinctive, formal look...and there is no mistaking it is a Buick! This harkens back to a time when a car had a presence! Thanks! :) Jack

  • I had one just like this, bought it in 1980, loved that car, nothing I have owned since has compared to it. Mine was almost identical, but had the sport steering wheel

  • @roadster45 Yeah, as they say, hindsight is always 20/20. I think we all have been in that place. Great car! Thanks! :) Jack

  • I had one just like this, bought it in 1980, loved that car, nothing I have owned since has compared to it. Why did I trade it in?????

  • What a beautiful automobile dont make them like they use to

  • @johndeereman2009 Hey, Anthony! So true...they didn't skimp on anything on Rivieras! Thanks! :) Jack

  • I bought this car into my collection. It is now savely stored in my garage in Spain and will be used acationedly in sommertime. Nice piece of automobile history !

All the best to all Buick friends out there !

  • @454Excalibur Great to hear! Glad to hear this piece of history has been saved..and I'm glad the people of Spain will get to see it personally! Thanks! :) Jack

  • The car is beautiful and you can tell the owner took much pride in it!

  • @GayUOPXBoy10 I think you are absolutely right...you can really tell an owner's devotion to his car! Thanks! :) Jack

  • If you like Riviera you should check out my channel. W1ZM3

  • @W1ZM3 I checked your video...great job in rescuing these boatails! Thanks!

    :) Jack

  • This is my favorite era of the Riviera which was a two year body style (1977-1978) and the body/chasis was essentially the same as the Buick LeSabre. The grill work, opera windows and distinctive tailights set the Riviera apart. The interiors were equally unique with the faux wood grain that topped the doors and the seat cushion design. The dash was identical to the Electra/LeSabre. Powering these cars was either the 350 4 barrel or the Olds 403 which was frequently used in GM cars of the era.

  • @optio4 I appreciate the details on this model! That was certainly an economy when this model could share components like the dash with its running mates.

Good point about the sharing of V8 engines..the Olds 403...which would mark the era and lead to some confusion of the car buyers. Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 You're welcome. The more I see it the more I'm inclined to find one someday.

  • @optio4 Good luck in your search! :) Jack

  • That door does sound nice and solid when it closes, I must admit. I like the metallic gold-on-beige colour scheme, and the plush sofa and chairs indoors. Quite a lot of stuff that looks like wood on the interior bits, too. Pity its so far away!

  • @rx6180 Hey, Mick! They tried purposely to get that thud when closing! These were living rooms on wheels! The wood is faux, however...they never could quite move themselves away from "wood" as the indicator of class! Thanks! :) Jack

  • damn dude this is a great automobile!! i mean wow! my friend has a 77 riv and i love it..haha i wish i could buy it from you. certainly my favorite car. you even have the rally wheels...awesome

  • @ourdarkesthour147 Hey,Mike....I agree..a great car! It's not my car, but I filmed it at a car meet...and I thought I'd include the contact info in case someone wanted to buy it! Thanks! :) Jack

  • If I was there, I would have bought that car in a heart beat.

  • @Charles2337 Hey, Charles....I filmed it last Saturday, May 29, and included the contact number in the video! Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1

    Haha awesome =P

Too bad my mother would have killed me for "wasting money" hahaa

  • @Charles2337 Ah...I've heard that line before! A favorite line among the parental units! :D Jack

  • these was the last RWD riviera's correct?

  • @leadfoots70 Hey, Ron! That is true...they moved to front wheel drive with the 79. Thanks! :) Jack

  • Spectacular ride!

  • @artoorew I agree! Thanks, Arturas! :) Jack

  • This is beautiful, the Riviera always was a beautiful car, until they started to fall off with the seventh generation ('86-'93) in my opinion !

My absolute favourite model though, is the '72 ... A stunning piece of Automotive greatness, it is a dream car for me, I'll have one, among others ... Some day :)

  • @drewerz01 Hey, Mike! I'll agree to that..and I hope you are successful in getting that stable that you want! The boat-tail was a fine tribute to some of the greatest cars America produced! Thanks! :) Jack

  • 77-79 had some of the best interiors they ever made for luxuary in American cars if you ask me;

  • @soccercleatscrush I'll agree with that...very durable, colorful...all that one would want...today, it's either gray or tan! Thanks! :) Jack

  • That Buick's dash was very similar to my '85 Lesabre (my first car & best running car I ever had!!)

  • @JakeDaSnakeFilms Hey, Jake! I bet the same designers used pretty much the same themes across the model lines back in the day. A dash was definitely something to be designed..it was very important in the general appeal of the car.

    Thanks! :) Jack

  • @raconter1 I also had an '85 LeSabre!

  • Wow Jack that was a trip down memory lane.My grandparents had 2 of these. My grandpa owned a car dealership and all through my childhood in the late 70's and 80's this is what my grandparents drove.Grandma's was a 77 red with the white leather all power and it had the Olds 403 engine.Granpaw's was silver with cloth a 1978 to with the 350 Buick engine. Thanks for the video.

  • @jas4925 I'm so glad I could bring those memories back! It is amazing that often when we think of people close to us, we remember the cars they drove, as though they were integral parts of them! That would have been a dream come true back in the day...owning a dealership! Now, probably not so much. Thanks! :) Jack

  • I had one just like this, except it was a 1977 and it was light blue. I paid $700 for it and sold it a few months later. It wasn't as nice as this one though. Another example of GM's "downsized" 1977 full-size lineup. Very classy ride.

  • @dodge09challenger Hey, Brian! Well you know the car very well! I imagine it was a very good cruiser! And the term "downsized" sure proves that size is certainly relative! :D Thanks! :) Jack

  • cool

  • @Ls3guy I agree! And you don't often find them in original condition like this one!

    Thanks! :) Jack

  • Nice original condition.......pretty soon I'm going to upload a video of a Riviera boat tail with a 455 in it. They were nice riding and driving cars.

  • @RamblinAround Hey, Jeff! I will look forward to that! A friend had a boatail Riv...but it wasn't in this condition either. They were very striking in their day...and I think demonstrated that at the time, GM was not afraid of innovation at all...even if a particular model didn't catch on, their sales were so strong they easily took up the slack. Thanks! :) Jack
