  • wow thats beyond epic

  • Flabbergastingly wonderful!

  • Between you and Tobias in Germany, you have Nick Drake perfectly covered - great job! I might just have to sell off my studio gear and give up!!!

  • Simply incredible. I never thought that I would see such an accurate emulation of Nick Drake. I remember reading an article in Q magazine years ago about a Tribute to Nick Drake concert that, although touching, ultimately failed because no singers or bands involved could quite capture the delicate essence of Drake's sound. But you have nailed it with all of these wonderful videos. I'm most impressed.

  • you are incredibly talented... the patience and commitment to produce covers of this standard is beyond me.

  • Brilliant. Wonderful. I love it. The whole production of yours. Thanks for sharing. Cheers André ☺

  • Perfect!

  • hey man how do you subscribe to your music? Your Nick Drake is awesome and you have got me into Elliott Smith! cheers

  • C'mon guys. Putting this much effort into creating a masterful cover is an achievement. Most musicians begin their career, or study, or whatever by trying to emulate what ha come before. There are precious few guitarists who can pull of drake covers. Many can get it close, but the finesse and mintue details and nuances are outrageously difficult to nail. Trust me. This is most impressive, and if it isn't so for you, then why are even watching this video! Kudos, Plectrum this is a great homage

  • simply perfect

  • All these covers are very well done and great, but you should do some originals. If i want nick drake ill listen to nick drake.

  • But if you want to watch Drake to see how he does it, what will you do? I believe we should give nothing but praise to craftsmen like plectrum34 who put such exceptional effort in perfect rendering of an old time master, instead of carelessly unleashing yet another "original" piece of boredom on us, like most bands do. Being original is so overestimated. A perfect recreation is easily dismissed, while it is another manifestation of art. In (old) oriental culture, this was regarded very highly.

  • In old oriental culture if you wanted to hear a standard song executed true to the original someone had to recreate it for you right there on the spot. Now the artists original song is only a few clicks away. Why would i want to eat tofurkey, when i can get the real stuff just as easily. And yes sometimes Originals are careless and boring, but if thats the case then the artist isnt very talented. Every song ever was at one point an original and im glad those artists didnt just stick to covers.

  • The availability of the original doesn't alter the craftsmanship or the artistry of the recreator. It affects the usefulness, that is true. Another point is that many "originals" are only original in a superficial way and heavily borrow from existing songs, or are throdded chord structures with uninspired lyrics. Obviously I am just as grateful as you are for artists like Nick Drake, who made truly original music.

  • How was he overlooked, the chord progressions were obviously well thought, played flawlessely on the albums .....I can't believe the promoters didn't witness Nick, at least watch him live and say damn....this guy is wickedly talented..........makes you wonder

  • Hello plectrum34,

You must be the reincarnation of Nick! ;-)

    Very great job. Beautiful voice.

  • I usually only dip into U Tube videos then click the next link and move on, but I had to let your Hazey Jane cover run it's course. Definately 'better than you worst' - thanks.

  • Wow you have Nick all through you

  • Comment removed

  • god your good nick would be proud

  • NIce song...did think the strings were a tad loud (and a little busy), could hardly hear the guitar...good job though, cheers!

  • Still a perfect replica of the album

  • good job man awesome

  • Amazing song and performance.

You're one of the best on youtube!

  • you should totally post some of your originals

  • Thanks again, Plectrum for another fine rendition! I can never get enough of this song /the Bryter Layter album. Beautiful....

  • You have made my week mate!!excellento!!LOL

  • cheers for the reply, keep up the fantastic work!

  • could you tell me what strings you use please

  • I've been asked this before, strangely enough I can't say,I bought this guitar last year on Ebay and I still haven't changed the strings...I'm going for that "dead string" sound that he gets, particularly on the Pink Moon album.

  • Plectrum,

You are absolutely and utterly amazing! I have your cool version of "Parasite" included in my Nick Drake playlist on my Ipod. What are you working on these days? Whatever it is I look forward to hearing it.

  • Thanks so much for your positive comments and for subscribing. Not working on anything at the moment but I have a few in mind that I'm thinking about doing, once I pick one and get a bit of free time I'll bang it out.

  • good as always, but too much reverb on the voice, it comes from too far away.

  • I discovered your playing very recently (I am new to YouTube !) and am so impressed with your musicianship and dedication. The world is a better place whenever I listen to your inspired renditions of Nick Drake songs especially, and I look forward to discovering your next postings. You are blessed with great talent ! Thank you for being there.

  • Thanks so much for your kind remarks and for subscribing.

  • its hard to take something done by an American with a faux British accent seriously..you should use your real voice! other than that, you are a very talented guy and props for your depth of understanding of nick's music!

  • Blimey you nailed it, has to be said it's not easy to figure this out from the original with all the backing orchestration, props Plectrum

  • Hey,thanks again for your positive comments.

  • ive got the home recording of this on my pc, if anyone would like it.

Possibly the most perfect song of all time.

  • Wonderful work as always...

I find it a little overproduced... just as Bryter Layter was overproduced indeed...

  • Thanks for your comments...yeah,the arrangements on Bryter Later are definitely not to everyones taste, although this is one I've always loved.

  • sooo worth the wait ... x,g.

    ... and i have the patience of a saint~*

    rich U Rule ;)~*

  • Thanks very much, glad you liked it!

  • Hey,thanks for your positive comments and for subscribing...the guitar is a Guild M20.

  • Another outstanding performance!Thanks..

  • Thanks again for your positive comments,I appreciate your feedback.

  • You are simply amazing. You are both faithful to the original and not slavish to it. And your vocals and wonderful.

But 'Northern Sky' is better than this :-) (IMHO)

  • Hey,thanks for your posive comments...just glad you enjoyed them both, whichever your favorite happens to be.

  • Beautiful treatment of this song! Carefully rendered. *Amy

  • Thanks Amy.

  • Excellent job on a very difficult song!

  • Once again, cool work. Great sound.

  • Thanks for your positive comments.

  • what should we say here... genius

btw, I listen almost everyday to your "Son of Sam" cover, I think it´s even better than the original, do you plan on putting your mp3 somewhere? It would be nice to listen to your versions in my mp3 player as well

  • Hey,thanks so much for your positive comments...a few people have asked,at some point when I get some time I'll likely set up some place to upload all the covers as mp3's for whoever is interested...thanks again.

  • awesome... nice job man

  • Thanks.

  • wow, audio is way better, its totally worth the crap video quality. Good job as always!

  • Thanks,I appreciate the feedback.

  • I always loved the percussion in this song. This was bloody brilliant, mate. I agree with the concensus that vid quality was perfectly a-ok. I think this one's going in my 'favourite covers' playlist. Well done, Rich.

    ta,

    ~Jess

  • Thanks again for your positive comments Jess, glad you liked it.

  • i had a really bad day as well, thankyou for letting me listen to this beautiful song. it has really helped.

  • It seems a few people had a rough day today...thanks very much,as I said in the last reply I'm definitely pleased if listening to this had any positive effect.

  • Had a pretty horrific day, but this is incredible, thanks for making me calm down.

  • Thanks very much,if listening to this had that effect it's a great compliment.

  • And again! you've brytened my day. Really! Like a mini catharsis to life's real world problems: Hearing these especial renditions takes me back to a much more pleasant time.

ONLY FIVE STARS YOUTUBE! COME ON!

PS. Hazy Jane 1 just happened to be my favorite Nick Drake song! :)

  • Rich, there really does not seem to be a discernable difference using &fmt=18 in audio or video here. Bottom line the audio is a-ok. Walt

  • Thanks again Walt, definitely one of my favorites as well...I agree, there doesn't seem to be any difference using the code, perhaps the audio is a touch louder and brighter but that might be my imagination.

  • actually this is more than homage, its a spot on cover, thought i should make that clear...

  • Thanks very much for all of your positive comments.

  • awesome to see someone taking the time and effort to pay homage to a really special artist-well done mate this is impressive stuff.

  • What a nice surprise for the morning. You recorded the other instruments as well?

  • Thanks for your positive comments...yeah,I record all the accompanying instruments using sounds from my synth and plugins.

  • I was waiting for you to do this one, it was worth the wait :)

  • Thanks very much for your positive comments.

  • Excellent performance as usual, beautifully played & put together. Audio quality great, no problem with the video either.

  • Thanks for your positive comments, good to hear the video quality doesn't come off too badly.

  • Great performance, and I agree on the quality, audio is the most important.

  • Terrific!!! how do you get the backgroundmusic? take it out of the songs? your guitarplaying is nothing short of briliant!

  • Hey,thanks for your positive comments...I record the background music myself using sounds from my synth/plugins,that's really a lot of the fun of doing it.
