@twychang thanks for the recommendation, twychang. have you ever seen the movie Hero with Jet Li? i think they use quite a bit of Classical Chinese in that movie.
Thanks a lot for this video. I am currently at an intermediate level for Chinese and I have started learning Japanese. This has given me a new insight to Japanese.
in the sentence 我不知道我吃什么东西了, i believe it should be 吃了什么东西. the previous one just sound soo unnatural. lol and 者 means like things, used usually like a suffix, so 所食者 means the things eaten :D for people it's like person or the -er or -or in english, so for example 护国者 means the person protecting the country :D by the way it wouldv'e been better in my opinion if you wrote the literary chinese sentences in traditional
@mynameismarvin Thanks. Yea, I was just going from the Literary Chinese book since they wrote it that way. It does make more sense to write Literary Chinese in traditional characters though.
@poleag yeah, i'd love to read some old chinese poetry. my chinese level is still pretty low though. do you recommend any other resources besides that literary chinese book that you showed in the video?
A few small mistakes in your Japanese. If you wanted to write いない in 漢字, it would have to be 居ない. 無い is an adjective which could be translated as "non-existent." You would never write い無い. Also, I have never seen 何物 before. If I heard it said, I would hear it as "What type of thing". I think it would be better left as 何. Also, the way you draw 言葉 is slightly misleading. The 言 looks like it's part of 葉.
Very interesting video overall. Unfortunately, though, it got cut off.
Bravo!

If you search Middle Chinese on Youtube, you can find demonstations of reconstructed Middle Chinese.

@magorianworld you're right, but each of the characters can certainly be read in any modern dialect, like how he's pronouncing them in mandarin here
