  • You should try and find a decal that says "Larry" in the fender font. Sounds amazing! Great job!

  • best tele ever, i actually feel good after watching that vids thumbs up if you built your own teles.

  • @271189a i doubt youll get any thumbs up

  • Hi from Birmingham, England - I ordered a sunburst tele body tonight, and happened on your video afterwards - after seeing the pride you have in your creation, I just can't wait to get building! Sounds great even with a toploading bridge

  • gr8 build!im building a tele too.!maby i'll post a vid when its done.awsome !!!diy all the way!!!

  • Don't put a Fender sticker on it, they don't deserve credit for all your hard work.

  • Like IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wow man that guitar is just great! you did a great job and just one quick question what song was it that you were playing that you said "havent played that in awhile"

  • @machicken18 That was Free Ride by Edgar Winter Group....or it was supposed to be...hehehe.

  • @SilverHamer One hit wonder groups...

  • @SilverHamer what kind of wood did you use?

  • @THEGUYD0WNTHESTREET The body is solid alder and the neck is solid maple.

  • consider some Lindy Fraylin pickups. With your level of attack on the strings (reminds me of myself) you can make any guitar sound good. I will be posting a vid of my tele I'm currently painting in a few weeks.

  • you dident build that yourself did you?.. lol sounds good

  • @iamelvisman68 Well I didn't cut the wood or put the finish to it, but I purchased all of the individual parts, made a few modifications, and assembled it using parts I had personally selected.

  • @SilverHamer i was just being sarcastic man.. but that tele does sound good.. what wood is that body

  • @iamelvisman68 The body is Alder and the neck is Maple. Thanks, man.

  • @SilverHamer well it sounds good.. im thinking of building one myself or doing upgrades on a squier cvc

  • love it when you played it loved it more when you said Larry telecaster...i wish i could do that

  • Oh, I thought you milled the wood yourself.

  • You look happy, i wish i had a tele like that

  • yeaa man , i like your style

  • it's cool to build your cool guitar, right? I'm going to build a Tele/strat hybrid next month and your video is very inspiring.

  • Nice punch to it!

  • Such spirit this guy has, and a killer sounding tele! This video made me smile, thanks.

  • What are the pick ups you're using?

  • @Olinolan190 If you go to the guitarfetish website and locate the absolute cheapest GFS pickups they sell...you'll find the ones I installed on this axe. Back when I built this one the pups were cheaper than what they sell for on the website. I was amazed at the tone these things get and for the money they are a steal!

  • @SilverHamer

Thank you very much mate, my bridge pick ups wiring brokes yesterday, and i want to get new pick ups instead of keeping the stock pick ups, even though they sound good.

    Btw, awesome tele :)

  • @Olinolan190 I don't think you'll go wrong with the GFS pups. I've recommended them to others and they have all been duly impressed by them as well. I have another tele project in the works and I have a set of Lil Punchers (mini humbuckers with rails) for the project. A friend of mine has them and they still get that distinctive tele "quack" as well as all of the warm tones of a humbucker. I'm stoked about using them.

  • @SilverHamer

Yeah, i looked and listened, they sound beautiful, ima get some, thank you for recommending mate :D

  • You build 'em too huh? :) Good job. My first real guitar was a used sunburst Tele with a Maple neck. I bought it in '69 for $75; a new one was about double that price. Strings didn't pass through the body and although I don't remember people dating Fenders by year back then, it should have been a '57 or '58. Stolen from home after I got drafted. Still had by Cry Baby, Fuzz-Face and Super Reverb amp which I left with the band to borrow and never got back. Wish I had all that now!!

  • Back then there were no foreign built Fenders, and my old Tele was pure quality. In 1995 I bought a new black/Maple neck "American Standard" Telecaster for about $900 and the thing was junk. The setup was so bad that I had to spend a day making the thing playable. the warranty was only as good as the dealer you bought it from. I was really disappointed and haven't bought another Fender since.

  • I mean rosewood neck... was thinking "maple" at the time! :)

  • free ride

  • I really like the middle position sound. Very nice Tele!

  • Nice tele dude. best guitars ever = TELECASTERS

  • That thing sounds pretty killer. Sounds better than some factory made guitars I've played.

  • Sweet Guitar man! "Larry Telecaster" haha nice, BTW, the beatles rock!

George had that nice telecaster too, is that why you made one?

  • what riff is that?

  • @riseofthefallen301 Which one? The riff I'm playing while demonstrating the different sounds between the pickups is just something I sort of tossed out there...a little improv. The tune I play near the end is Free Ride by Edgar Winter Group, circa 1972.

  • YOur uber cool.

  • how much did it cost

  • @qforit All total it cost me just under $450.

  • Congratulations man! Know the feeling! Sounds and looks great!

  • I feel your joy baba,

    She sounds great!

Nothing like building your own axe,

I also just bought a bunch of guitar pickups from Artec the "entwistle" series and they sound so good its ridiculous because the whole set cost 50 bucks.. goes to show you one cant be brainwashed by the brand name thing. I too build my own guitars now and the personal rewards and control over ones own tone is indescribable. Enjoy your new guitar in good health brother,

  • "Hello? Yeah darlin'."

    Awesome Larrycaster.

  • LARRYCASTER looks and sounds GOOOOD !!!

  • Nice Tele man.

  • I built my OWN telecaster as well and used the hot rails pickups (vintage Voiced) and it works well. love the sucker so much i got rid of all my other guitars and now the Telecaster is the only electric i have. good job on your guitar, nicely done

  • redneck :D

  • Damn Right.

  • nice guitar man!

    nice t-shirt too!

  • Hey Larry,,

Your attitude is refreshing to see, Somebody really enjoying there guitar and best part is you built it. Keep living life man

  • what type of pickups where they

  • @okdoky123 GFS pickups from the guitarfetish website. GFS pups are great, especially for the price. I have a set for my next project and I know a few others who have used them and love them.

  • good player..... great vid. nice!

  • you expecting a phone call?

  • a little rusty? seems to me u completely brang that little riff to life. Im usually listening metal and stuff but i listened to that thing in the end a few times and i liked it! Man... how do you learn so much about guitars? i Don'nt know whre to start.

  • hey silverhammer, what a great job on your larry twangacaster.get it tuned dowm to open g and get some keefy riffs down on you tube for us.

  • Sounds great Larry good job!

  • great sound!!! awesome o/

  • what pickups are they again ?

  • Larry, brilliant build, mate. I went for the string through in the end on mine and it made a big diference to sustain. However, my little 'secret' with my telecaster was to use high tensile steel grub screws as a replacement for the stainless steel ones that come as standard with most bridges. That little baby experiment transformed the guitar.

Regardless of that. You are a top class builder.

    Cheers from the UK.

  • I "happened upon" your videos some time back, and I've tried to keep track ever since. Today I saw your "message to your critics" for the first time - and I just wanted to encourage you. I'm sure there are many more folks like me out there digging "your stuff". btw, if you're ever successful in putting a jam together, I'd be willing to come all the way from Texas to hang for a few hours (me and the mama look for neat reasons to get away). You're good people - keep rockin'!

  • Well, if I AM ever successfull in putting a jam together, you won't need to leave Texas 'cuz I are a Texican my own self. :D Of course Texas is a BIG place so it COULD be an adventure visiting another part of the state. I live near Houston myself. Thanks for your very kind words of encouragement.

    LC

  • better yet, instead of the "telecaster"..... put the "LARRYcaster"!

  • you should get a custom decal like larrys telle in the fender cursive

  • I was thinking about putting a Gibson decal on it just to mess with people...BWAHAHAHAHA.

  • ehh i think mabby the litle first act decal would suit it beter hahaha

  • Hey, First Act RAWKS the fireplace! The best firewood you can buy for $100...ROFL.

  • yup genuine pine haha i actualy made a custom acoustic using there acoustic body it has a decent tone sutstian an tunes well

  • wow, that's got a great sound for only $50 in pickups. Great job

  • great looking Guitar, I made a strat using parts off ebay, took me a while but It's great to play, much better than I had thought.

I'm now building a Gibson type (335) using bits and bobs from ebay also.

  • Looks great ! keep on rocking !

  • "this is a larry telecaster" ROCK ON!!!!

  • Man you did an awesome job with that puppy!! It DOES sound quite chunky on the low end with a very rippy/raw tone and i love it!!! I'll trade u my orig '54....wait, nevermind. Great job though!

  • Graet!! I´´m about to build one too.

    TELECASTER is great!!!!!!!!!

  • Fuckn great Job!!!!!! larry and also love the quick lick!

  • Larry,

What a great guitar. I am wanting to do my own build as well. I was thinking tele cause I already have a Strat built from a local luthier and an Agile Les Paul so a tele would even out the corral. I'm not a shredder but dig the blues and classic rock. I can see the excitment you have and its contagious. I'm happy for ya, keep rockin'. Dig the Freeride riff :)

  • Hey grok64. Sorry I'm so slow to respond. I thank you for your great comment. I opted to build a Tele because I had never done this before and it seemed like a more basic project for a novice like me to undertake. I won't say that it was exactly very easy, but the construction of a Tele is really quite simple. I have a Tele II project in the works that will not require a pick guard...and it has a lucious quilted maple cap on it. It looks good enough to eat...ROFL! Take Care, and Thanks.

  • Nice tele

    you did a great job

where did u get most of the parts wired inside?

  • actually one of the best teles i have heard, well done! what pick-ups u got in there?

  • The pickups are GFS pickups from guitarfetish(dot)com. Extremely low-cost but they have astonishing tone. My plan was to upgrade to Seymour Duncans but after I heard how good these sound I changed my mind. My next project will have GFS Lil Punchers which are single-coil sized humbuckers with rails instead of six individual magnets.

  • hey man how u doin?....just gota say whats that u were playin at about 2:00 think i know it regards from the UK XD

  • That would be Free Ride by the Edgar Winter Group from sometime around 1972. :D

  • Very good Job! C'mon and take a free ride!!!

  • congrats, looks beautiful and sounds excellent too

  • larry your the man that is sweet sounds great even recorded into the computer

  • for a gibson lover u made a beauty of a fender guitar

  • I love this guy!

    "This is a LARRY Telecaster!"

He seems so proud :) ..and he should be!

    A beautiful guitar!

  • That guitar sounds great. Try a set of Joe Barden pickups on the next one. I used them on my Jap Paisley telecaster and love the sound. I use a Herzog into a Weber 5G15 kit and a Fender Princeton. I get a nice sound and no complaints from the neighbors. Now I need a guitar for the Seymor Dunan Pickups.

  • Dude, string-through Schmeng-through, throw a Bigsby on that bad boy!

  • Alot of Les Paul players seem to like Teles.

  • I dig that tele a lot. How's she holding up?

  • Good work buddy!!!

If anyone ever tells you you look like Ronnie Hawkins...tell em you are his younger brother, haha

  • BEAUTIFUL axe! and nice shirt, lol

  • You're my fucking hero!! :D

haha, someday i hope i build my own guitar :D.

You are a luthier or something?

    Byyee

    Rock n' roll >=)!

  • Nice to see/hear a guy with white hair covering Free Ride.

  • Does it have the strings going through the back of the body? It sounds really cool. Enjoy it.

  • Oh you answered my question further on in the video. And I wanted to say I like the look of it, sunburst with a cool looking pickguard.

  • All hail the Larrycaster!

  • Yes you are correct...I assembled this guitar, I didn't craft the pieces of wood myself. No big deal. I did NOT put a Fender decal on it...you must not have heard what I said about that in the end just as the phone rang. I forgot I had the headset on as this was a hastey video production. However it DID give me an idea for a new song..."Talking To My Darling While Shooting A Youtube Video"...or something like that. This is NOT a wannabe, btw...it's BETTER than any Fender I've played.

  • You say this guitar with $50.00 pickups, assembled in your home is better than my 2008 American Standard Ash Telecaster? Hahahahahahahahaha

  • Okay, maybe it looks better lol

Good work anyhow, you should be really proud, and I love the finish. Did you paint the body?

  • Ummm...don't put words in my mouth...I didn't say that. Actually those pickups (with shipping) cost me right at about $40.00. They are made by GFS (you can see them on guitarfetish website) and they cost a little more today than they did back when I got my set. They totally kick ass though, especially for what I paid for them. And I would not hesitate to say that this tele is better than any imported Fender model...but I wouldn't say better than a USA. The body came already stained.

  • Your exact words were "it's BETTER than any Fender I've played."

I wasn't putting words in your mouth buddy.

  • And I naturally assumed, you have played American guitars with your skill level. Am I wrong?

  • But of course...I even own a few. Not any Fenders though. I know a lot of very gifted people prefer Fender but I was raised on Gibsons and just never had the bug for Fender (other than their amps) until I decided I wanted to try to build my own guitar.

  • Well it sure is a beauty. I love Teles...love em!

  • Give me a time-hack on where I said that in this video please...LOL. I wouldn't have said that because it's pretty much a blanket statement. I was very excited that this thing even played right to begin with, which is why I opted to go low-cost on the pups, but after I heard them I was really amazed, which is basically the point of this video to begin with.

  • lol free ride.

  • Lovin the shirt man. 5*

  • Haha, I love the faces you made while playing.

  • I mean it's exactly like that. It has the same sunburst paint job. That's a sweet guitar you have there!

  • Nice guitar. I bought one in a pawn shop that has that exact same body. Mine has a rosewood neck. Do you know who makes that body? I saw them in a catalog once and they made a strat body also. Anyway great guitar and I liked the Free ride tune. Rock on!

  • Basically every guitar manufacturer makes telecaster bodies. Fender and Washburn make great ones. dont think really small companies like S101 are bad either. S101 is actually fender. they just didnt want their name on some of the products.

  • ya def a larrycaster lol

  • you should call it a Larrycaster!

  • "nice chunky tele sound"

best description ever. your guitar sounds great.

  • Sounds awesome that

  • Well worth it in my opinion..great job sounds as wonderfull as it looks

  • wow that's an awsum tele'....great sound for the price of those pickups.....so how much did it cost to make the whole thing?

  • In all I have about $450 invested in it.

  • great!!

  • ur funny!! good guitar as well!

    XD "yes darling"...

  • Nice playing and Nice guitar!

How'd you get the bridge top-loaded?

I'm planning to put a telecaster bridge on my acoustic (yes i know it's stupid) and haven't figured out how to string it thru-body :)

  • Great playing man. the guitar sounds beautiful. I can't believe you build that yourself. It sounds just as good as a bunch of fenders i have played.

  • What is the neck radius on the neck?

  • I'm not sure. It's been a couple of years since I bought it, but it has a nice chunky feel, but not too chunky. It's a Mighty Mite neck.

  • Beautiful.

  • im a total idiot but what is that song hes playing at 2:16?

  • You're not a total idiot...that's an old song by The Edgar Winter Group called Free Ride. :D

  • thanks dude. i knew the rhythem i just couldnt put a name with it.

  • Nice job. What neck did you buy?

  • I bought a Mighty Mite neck.

  • Lovin' the sound of the bridge pickup! Nice job, sounds and looks great!

  • Nice job, man, the axe looks great and has a wonderful sound!

And yo're a hell of a player too!!

    Congratulations!!

    Mark Lasley - Naples, Italy

  • Beautiful tele, man.

  • what pickups did you buy? they do sound pretty good

i plan on buying a used (preferably by some off the wall never heard of brand) and then replace parts kinda like Kurt Cobain did

  • Those are about the cheapest pickups I've ever seen...they are made by GFS sold by guitarfetish(dot)com. Pretty amazing sound, eh?

  • great piece i have just built me a strat the same color as your tele i feel like johnny cash "one piece at a time"

i never built a guitar before but i have now and got a lot of pleasure out of doing it,i just need to lower the action some and it will be a great piece.

how did your action turn out did you have to adjust the nut any?

  • Oh man...I made adjustments all over to get this to feel good...HAHAHA. But that was just part of the process. It was great fun. I will have another home-built completed very soon...another Tele. :D

    LC

  • i see it is a bone type nut what did you use to sand down the nut i am having a hard time sanding mine down, stuff is very hard? any suggestion and or pointers?

  • I WANT ONE!!!!

  • Very very nice guitar....did you put the Tele logo on it? I wouldn't!

  • No I didn't. :D Thanks

  • i can see the excitment and the thrill of having built one. Contrats man! Great job!

  • OK...we got it!

  • Awesome!

Like to play telecaster but don't think I could build one.

    Corkey

  • hey, niice, how much does a larry tele costs? xD...i like the chunky tone of the bridge pick up...

  • dude are you kidding me, how stupid can you be

he build it himself, i guess his name is larry so he named it the larry telecaster

  • i know, im not stupid... i only asked, how much it would coust when he would sell it... Man your stupid. its only a joke. do you understand the meaning of a xD? thats a smiile...

  • I don't know that I would actually sell it. I think I would mount it on the wall as art before I would sell it. LOL. The cost to build varies depending on where you get your parts, but this one was very low-cost. At the end of the day I spent a total of about $450. My next Tele will cost about $150 more because I used different parts on it, and the body is more expensive. It has a quilted maple top. :D LC

  • only about 450? i thought to build a guitar is about $200 more expensive. but niiice work, i think i try it myself... at the moment i have a gibson les paules studio, a fender stratocaster and a washburn wi64. i think i try to build some gibson sg stuff, did get all your things from ebay?

  • i built one similar but it ended up costing about $2000 due to me not liking parts and some not fitting well worth it tho. plus i fitted black face bare knuckle pick ups which werent cheap. nice guitar dude!

  • Hey there larry! Love the guitar, if you want to upgrade the pickups, i can't reccomend s/duncans enough. Here is my video of a seymour duncan bridge .... best wishes!

  • nice guitar

  • hey !! great sound...!! and beauty too...

please make one to me ...and send to Brazil please...Larry ..kkkk...

Tele made in USA ....so rare...

    Great !

  • Dude Sweet :D

  • yea sweet.. that beard.. and that hat...... and that earpiece. "WOAH!" haha

  • awsome man. just awosme. it definatly takes time and dedication to build your own guitar. nice work and nice playing of free ride

  • Awesome man. Seriously beautiful.

  • is that a gold plated or brass bridge? that sick! where did you get it

  • how much for a larry caster? :D

  • Cool. I just added a 3rd tele to my arsenal. Yours sounds fine. Looking forward to seeing its future appearances.

  • That's great, nice video Larry

  • Beautiful. Love the sounds and it looks wonderful to play. I swear, I love those damn guitars.

  • HEE! ..fun to watch vid!

  • nice guitar and nice playing :D5/5

  • Wouldn't it be funny if its really just a Chinky Tele thats been fettled by this big beardy bloke. Its not possible though, right?

  • This is the internet, so I suppose almost anything is possible...but it would be a complete waste of time for some dumbass to put on a show like this if it wasn't legit. I can assure you, I assembled this thing myself from parts I purchased over 6 months time from various sources. I have a Tele 2 project in the works now that should be even better than this one. Signed, The Once Beardy Bloke...but I am still big...HAHAHA.

  • Good man! The YouTube sound quality doesn't di it justice. Keep on rockin!

  • Body - purchased on ebay from New Metalshop Music

Neck - purchased from Mighty Mite

Pickups - GFS Tele kit purchased from Guitar Fetish on ebay

Pick guard, bridge, tuners, and all the rest of the hardware purchased from various other sources from ebay and local music shops.

  • 10 out of 10. Cheers!

  • Chinky? Can't you just say Asian or Chinese? What's up with the "Chink" dude.

  • I only said it once dude. Its a common phrase down our way, we don't do 'PC'.

  • Yeah sorry dude. That's how us Brits talk :P

  • i have a mikecaster in the corner of my living room.

  • ya know man... you gotta put something cool on the head, make a custom "Larrycaster" decal or something, you gotta prove you made it, that makes it all the bit cooler.

  • u should put a fender logo on there its still youre home built telecaster just making it look authentic:)btw its totally sick im working on the same thing

  • hello, yeah darling lol. nice guitar man, love the gold setting and stuff. very nice. respect.
