The main bone I had to pick was the line about the Assassins using that location for hundreds of years. That's the one fact that cannot be verified (or proven false) on the AC wikia. ok people The Assassin's all know that you don't need to cut off your finger to use the hidden blade.

They do it to show that you are sacrificing your finger for the weapon so you are committed to it.

Its like when you're wearing a wedding ring to show you are committed to that one person!

The later design created by Altair did not require that the finger be amputated because it was a telltale sign of an Assassin. After all, in the event that the world was truly overrun by Templars, they would be executing everyone with a missing ring finger.

Besides in AC; 3 and 2 the initiaion was that they get fire and burn side of your finger as it has happened to the assassin recruits, Ezio himself and Claudia.

@deadliestcholo the early versions of hidden blade required your to remove the ring finger because the blade was activated a ring cuff on your little finger, and when you flex that little finger it operates the blade's mechanism and the blade extends out. However, when you flex your little finger up, your ring finger naturally goes down, and the blade would have sliced through it. So you had to remove the ring finger in order to use the blade, and to show commitment.
