The sticking pattern is used as a reference point for the timing, as he switches from 8th notes, to 16th notes, to 32nd notes and slows it back down. The video is at a clinic somewhere showing the practice routine designed to develop speed with accuracy and consistency.

fucking christ how can this many people not know what a trigger does? stop bitching about what you dont know, a trigger doesnt play it for you, it doesnt loop the tempo, it guarantees no matter how light or hard your hitting, when the trigger is hit it sends that through a mod sound, you pick a bass sound, and everytime you hit the trigger it makes an exact audible level of that patch.

triggers don't make a drummer faster or slower, it's a way of converting the analogue movement of the drumskin into a digital, manipulatable sound. listen to born of osiris if you want to hear what they're used for, very prominent triggering. think of a trigger like a pickup for the drums. you wouldn't not say a guitar pickup makes the player play better, only that the sound he is producing is more clear and open to manipulation. (exceptions made for 'the edge')

@Insectamongus Yeah Kollias is an amazing drummer but Pearl is so fucking overated its not even funny. Pearl is a Japanese brand and their top of the line kits arnt even made in Japan. They are made in Taiwan. You could buy a Tama superstar kit, the durms will probabaly be the same as the masterclass series but the hardware on the tama will be HEAPS better. Old Pearl was pretty damb good but now they suck.
