I have the same radio (37-630) that I just finished restoring electronically. You did a great job. I am curious about what looks like two transformers where the 8uf and 12 uf caps were. What is that arrangement all about?
Hi and thanks! These modularized chassis' are a pain to do, but are well worth it. I'm not big on electromagnet speakers, so I installed two 30's vintage Philco chokes I had to replace the field coil and went with a 50's PM speaker. I also replaced the cardboard cloth frame with wood, allowing me to mount a bigger speaker. Both mods were prompted because I intend to upgrade the chassis to the X or 640 series output stage later, with push-pull tubes.
Great sounding radio! Wish I could find one to purchase. Had a 37-630, but it was stolen back in 1995.

I look at this type of radio, now understanding that it was frequently offered in 2 trim levels, a smaller tabletop and the much larger upright.
I now ponder, why not offer both?
Simply offer the radio chassis and tabletop with the option of placing it in the console.
Much later, car radios did this, and were fully portable and functional when carried from the car dock to the home dock as a luggage with voice.
