  • ah man y this song? lol i almost cried and im a 23 yr old man :)

  • The truth....thank you for being...xxx

  • I love the 14h Dalai Lama coz no matter how much he's not a Christian, you can be a better Christian just by listening to what he'll tell you. He's teachings cut across religions and emphasize on Humanity! No wonder Arch. Desond Tutu Loves him so.

  • I think rule #17 is best!

  • >great love

    >great risk

anyone else though about unprotected... oh, nvm.

  • thank you for sharing

  • 19 - "Thou shalt live a privileged existence by lording it over your fellow man via the dissemination of semi-mystical codswallop comprising of illogical and contradictory platitudes akin to the sort of thing one finds in a Christmas cracker or Woolworths Easter card" - The Dalai Lama, Fraudster and Religious Huxter Extraordinaire

  • Dont worry about the spelling. This is an excellent video the way it is. Well done!

  • The best lesson of my life....

I've always been so cocky and thought i knew everything..It's so wonderful open myself up for more teachings...

Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your value...

  • this is brilliant

  • Very nice and tender,perfect for 2012

  • I bet he got all of these from fortune cookies at a Chinese restaurant when he visited the States.

I find it amusing how people always need to find somebody who would give them a "right" formula for life.

You have your own mind, think for yourself.

  • @ikravchik You have to think to yourself that you have found this video on you tube, titled appropriately, its clear your searching for something, don't mock it.

  • :)

  • Thank you for sharing. This is a wonderful, powerful tool to have. I appreciate that you took time to create this video. Thank you <3

  • I don't think Hitchens could have ever wrote, or inspire others to do so much good as has the Dalai lama.

  • I got a music studio at my home, and i wrote every single rule down on paper and taped it to my wall..so now when all the gangsters come over they always read over it. People are lost help them the right way...peace out

  • I don't understand the last one yet. Hopefully I will, because the others are so brilliant to me. Wonderful song.

  • @PeaceboneGotFound i think it means to not climb the latter of "success" (whatever that may be for you) by using other peoples' work and efforts to make your process an easier one. So, EARN your success... don't feed off others. =]

  • thank you for posting this.

  • dear friend your post seems to have brought alot of emotions in people, it was very beautiful and healing thank you for sharing this dharma and creating a healing connection with all who were moved by it. peace to you brother

  • These are simple truths to reflect on and think about what they mean for your life. You can dissect them, but what does that lead to but a greater unhappiness with the world. As for simple lessons - are they worth it? "Wash you hands" - told to how many health care worker each year? Simple, yes. Followed, No. Makes a difference. I can send you the data.

  • When and where did the Dalai Lama say these things? If he said these things, then please give proper attribution; if he didn't, please remember that it would be dishonest (and bad karma) to mis-quote him.

  • @sheepyrock108 The woman or man behind a statement doesn't improve its veracity.

Accept these rules for the intent behind them. Not for who said them.

  • Wise words, beautiful music. Thanks for sharing this great video with us!

  • That´s true! Some of them are so basic stuff that they do not suprise. Sorry for agressive posting. I should have known where to stop, but didn´t. ;) Thank you for understanding. Love and peace to you <3

  • @Saumuraisopuli

Fair enough. I guess you have explained a thing or two and perhaps I am prone to misunderstand. However, those rules are not all equally valid, that is my point. Some of them are great advices and some of them are simple no-brainers.

    Peace out...

    16. Needing money for this is not allways true. It doesn´t nesseserily mean to be going a foreign country. People tend to go places for a reason, to work, buy food, to meet people. Whith a great propability there are places in a walking distance from your house where you never bothered to go. With a car or a bike (or more time walking) you have plenty to deside from.

  • 1. You also get great dissapointment and great failure in great risk.

    2. The lesson being?

    3. Makes sense.

    4. True, but also most of the times a great stroke of unluck.

    5. Yeah! Lets learn business rules so we can steal from a whole nation!

    6. Anyone who lets a little dispute injure a great friendship, doesn't belong in a great friendship.

    7. No brainer.

    8. Good. Makes sense. EVERYBODY spends some time alone every day.

    9. Can't get far in life not doing this...

  • Comment removed

  • @sigurjonv02 1. Of course. Otherwise it would be no risk.

    2. To learn from your mistakes and not repeat them.

    4. Of course it can seem like it some of the time. It's your state of mind that decides which.

    5. I interpreted this as the need to be aware of precisely what you are doing, and the consequences of your actions. Though I could be wrong.

    6. I guess it's a shame more people aren't infallible.

Clearly you know much of this - That doesn't devalue the information. For you or the rest of us.

  • @sigurjonv02 think outside the box!

  • better than ten commandments

  • What's the name of the track playing in the background? Thanks!

  • very good. i love it.

  • Thank you so much for posting this, great!

  • Awesome words..no matter who said them. What a thing to aspire to...if we could all see this and live this...what a world/life we would have, huh? Thanks for sharing this..

  • ThukJe Che - thank you<3

  • ThukJe Che - thank you<3

  • Amen!!!!!!

  • Bacon is just too damn tasty.

  • This is great!!!

  • I found such peace with this and with my way of life today. I am just sad that some watched, listened, read but still have such negative things to say. Its just a beautiful truth and we should all follow these 18 Rules.

  • This is by the Dalai lama...

    Very deep

  • i cried, shared, cried, replayed, shared on a forum, cried again, and i feel so at peace with how i am currently living my life. Too bad i didn't come to this conclusion earlier :(

  • @Tomvoss74 aWWW... take care, my fren. Life is worth living and giving.

  • @Tomvoss74 lol u fucking hippe

  • @Tomvoss74 I found myself falling to tears as well, I am in a great moment of realization in my life, and these words went straight to my heart. I could not help but cry at the sadness of my life, and also at the sadness that I have been sad about my past, the beauty of forgiveness, and the meaning of these words.

  • This is not by the Dalai Lama. It has nothing to do with him so it starts with a lie!

  • @bobgould99

I agree. They've cheapened this good advice by turning it into a con job. Good advice is good advice ... it doesn't benefit by false atribution.

  • item 11- "your" should be "you're"

  • @lryder373 Indeed. And if that's all that u retained from this video, I feel for you. But don't give up hope, there might be a chance for you, too!

  • God Bless you!Love from Hungary=)

PS:could someone tell me the title of this song?:)

  • @erjudah I know it´s sigurrós but i don´t know the name of the song

  • i agree. Although i struggle with these sometimes i agree.

  • @89Czeko Thankyou brother/sister... much love from Sydney Aus

  • The words of Francis of Assisi may also help with grasping rule 17:

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

  • Sad that there's a spelling error in #11. "You are" = "You're" not "Your".

Otherwise, beautiful. Thank you for linking the music too.

  • This is so so so so BEAUTIFUL! Thank you for posting! ♥

  • i don't really understand rule 17 can you please explain it to me

thanks sorry I'm just little slow with this kind of stuff

  • @bil706 May I please try and explain #17 the way I understand it. I think the "best" means the happiest and healthiest relationships that will support each other's highest and greatest good. You may be in the position of "needing" and depending on each other, but if the LOVE is the GLUE holding you together, you will be far happier. I hope this helps.

  • im sorry but this is one of a few videos i actually cried too... I am an alcoholic at present wanting to change my life around... I am just scared of change I am so used to alcohol and being angry... i know easier said than done become a buddhist or live by these steps I can only hope I do.. and I hope for all others to i never pray because hands clasped in prayer never do anything physically doing something has change come about...... thankyou Dalai Lama if you ever read this man... I love you

  • @DjTommyKx A central teaching of Buddhism is that of patience. Though the translation of the word patience does not exactly fit, it fits better than any other English word. It is not like waiting for a bus or a train where we do nothing until the desired event comes... it is more like planting seeds in the garden as your neighbour does, putting much effort into firtilising and watering, but not minding if next doors flowers come into bloom while you still have just tiny shoots.

  • @DjTommyKx The Dalai Lama has a book, "Healing Anger, The Power of Patience from a Buddhist Perspective", which covers Shantideva's famous guide, and is worth a read. As for those tiny shoots, keep nurturing them, they will grow strong, in time they will flower and they'll be wonderful... Have patience with yourself.. I wish you well. DC

  • @DjTommyKx Do not be sorry for showing emotion that is what makes us Human Beings. I know a few alcoholics and its hard because it is legal. Just remember that there is something bigger so just stay true to your beliefs and who ever he is will give you strength. My best wishes to you and yours I know you will beat it the demon. I send as much good energy your way I hope it can help. (May the best of your today's be the worst of your tomorrows.) Good Luck and Stay Strong my friend!

  • @humanpride1 I completely aggree.... though socio economic standards for my job and me being male in the westernised world is i must not cry I must be strong I must be male...... Not playing a sympothy card here but I can totally see your thoughts and where you are coming from. Thankyou for the kind words brother/sister.

  • so simple rules but still so hard to live by

  • Pity we are destroying the very earth we live in and it's not going to change untill the air we breath kills us.

  • Take these message to heart

  • We are Silence,Silence is God,We are God.Peace and Blessings

  • These are beautiful and wise, but the Dalai Lama did not say these.

  • rule 20 follow the neutrinos

  • i try to watch this video at least 1 time a week now and for some reason after i watch it every time i get kinda sad and speechless but im a depressed person just looking for answers.

  • @jacotay1 reading this post brought up compassion for me. you are on the right track I think. also check out Henri Nowen and you will be filled with inspiration and hope. keep well and be gentle with yourself...God bless

  • What's the name of the song?? Please tell me!!

☆ Rule 19. GO VEG. BE GREEN. SAVE THE PLANET...

  • @openbuddhistforum

That's rule 15 : be gentle with the earth

  • Doesnt matter, cause its the Daila Lama, who broke it down to 18 most important rules. And apart from that, there is nothing important to say, that has not been said before.

  • Comment removed

  • Thank you for posting in such a creative and beautiful way. Glad to learn of Sigur Ros ( even though the group broke up)

  • What is the song? It's so beautiful

  • @Cathenja Song is by Sigur Ros, can't remember the name thou.

  • which song is this?

  • What a beautiful song

  • These quotes are not the Dalai Lama's they are taken from the published works of H. Jackson, Jr. Brown, who wrote a number of books called "Life's Little Instructions" - For example look on amazon for Paperback: 192 pages, Published by Thorsons (27 Sep 1993) in English - ISBN-10: 0722529287.

  • @d1vadnow Thanks so much for the reference. These are great and I look forward to reading all 511 Life's Little Instructions : )

  • Just wonderful

  • Apart from the grammatical mistakes in rule 11, this was fantastic!

"When you lose, don't lose the lesson". I particularly like this one - good advice.

  • H H The 14 DALAI LAMA is the great Example . U are universal teacher long live HH Dalai Lama

  • We need reminders as we go....anything that is positive is worth hearing, no matter if you have heard it before. Life as it is (in my society anyway) fights against these concepts, so any good and wholesome thoughts coming in constantly, are welcome with me.

  • Is that all he can tell you? Don tell me there are people out there paying to listen to this?? I mean I do agree with most of the things here, but I do not need him to tell me these. My parents teaches me these things since I was 1 year old, and I am sure most people have been taught this as well. I cannot see how great a spirital leader he is if he can not come up with anything better.

  • @yesun83 He doesn't have to come up with anything better... It's been said. ;)

  • @yesun83 Well guess what? He DIDN"T come with OR say these things! Still, these are very positive and inspirational messages.

  • beautiful but i don't think he wrote these. he's not eloquent or coherent enough to have written this stuff. he would have giggled in his yoda voice and one of his loyal and dutiful monks would have written it

  • Beautiful!

  • I have much admiration for the Dalai Lama...

  • NAMASTE.

  • The Dalai Llama is my savior

  • Wonderful.
