I love the 14h Dalai Lama coz no matter how much he's not a Christian, you can be a better Christian just by listening to what he'll tell you. He's teachings cut across religions and emphasize on Humanity! No wonder Arch. Desond Tutu Loves him so.
19 - "Thou shalt live a privileged existence by lording it over your fellow man via the dissemination of semi-mystical codswallop comprising of illogical and contradictory platitudes akin to the sort of thing one finds in a Christmas cracker or Woolworths Easter card" - The Dalai Lama, Fraudster and Religious Huxter Extraordinaire
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers. 2 Timothy 4:3
@ikravchik You have to think to yourself that you have found this video on you tube, titled appropriately, its clear your searching for something, don't mock it.
#11 has some grammar problems; your should be you're, 'you be' should read 'you will be', and there should be an 'and' (or a comma) between good and honourable.
I got a music studio at my home, and i wrote every single rule down on paper and taped it to my wall..so now when all the gangsters come over they always read over it. People are lost help them the right way...peace out
@PeaceboneGotFound i think it means to not climb the latter of "success" (whatever that may be for you) by using other peoples' work and efforts to make your process an easier one. So, EARN your success... don't feed off others. =]
dear friend your post seems to have brought alot of emotions in people, it was very beautiful and healing thank you for sharing this dharma and creating a healing connection with all who were moved by it. peace to you brother
These are simple truths to reflect on and think about what they mean for your life. You can dissect them, but what does that lead to but a greater unhappiness with the world. As for simple lessons - are they worth it? "Wash you hands" - told to how many health care worker each year? Simple, yes. Followed, No. Makes a difference. I can send you the data.
When and where did the Dalai Lama say these things? If he said these things, then please give proper attribution; if he didn't, please remember that it would be dishonest (and bad karma) to mis-quote him.
That´s true! Some of them are so basic stuff that they do not suprise. Sorry for agressive posting. I should have known where to stop, but didn´t. ;) Thank you for understanding. Love and peace to you <3
Fair enough. I guess you have explained a thing or two and perhaps I am prone to misunderstand. However, those rules are not all equally valid, that is my point. Some of them are great advices and some of them are simple no-brainers.
16. Needing money for this is not allways true. It doesn´t nesseserily mean to be going a foreign country. People tend to go places for a reason, to work, buy food, to meet people. Whith a great propability there are places in a walking distance from your house where you never bothered to go. With a car or a bike (or more time walking) you have plenty to deside from.
Awesome words..no matter who said them. What a thing to aspire to...if we could all see this and live this...what a world/life we would have, huh? Thanks for sharing this..
I found such peace with this and with my way of life today. I am just sad that some watched, listened, read but still have such negative things to say. Its just a beautiful truth and we should all follow these 18 Rules.
i cried, shared, cried, replayed, shared on a forum, cried again, and i feel so at peace with how i am currently living my life. Too bad i didn't come to this conclusion earlier :(
@Tomvoss74 I found myself falling to tears as well, I am in a great moment of realization in my life, and these words went straight to my heart. I could not help but cry at the sadness of my life, and also at the sadness that I have been sad about my past, the beauty of forgiveness, and the meaning of these words.
The words of Francis of Assisi may also help with grasping rule 17:
O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen
@bil706 May I please try and explain #17 the way I understand it. I think the "best" means the happiest and healthiest relationships that will support each other's highest and greatest good. You may be in the position of "needing" and depending on each other, but if the LOVE is the GLUE holding you together, you will be far happier. I hope this helps.
im sorry but this is one of a few videos i actually cried too... I am an alcoholic at present wanting to change my life around... I am just scared of change I am so used to alcohol and being angry... i know easier said than done become a buddhist or live by these steps I can only hope I do.. and I hope for all others to i never pray because hands clasped in prayer never do anything physically doing something has change come about...... thankyou Dalai Lama if you ever read this man... I love you
@DjTommyKx A central teaching of Buddhism is that of patience. Though the translation of the word patience does not exactly fit, it fits better than any other English word. It is not like waiting for a bus or a train where we do nothing until the desired event comes... it is more like planting seeds in the garden as your neighbour does, putting much effort into firtilising and watering, but not minding if next doors flowers come into bloom while you still have just tiny shoots.
@DjTommyKx The Dalai Lama has a book, "Healing Anger, The Power of Patience from a Buddhist Perspective", which covers Shantideva's famous guide, and is worth a read. As for those tiny shoots, keep nurturing them, they will grow strong, in time they will flower and they'll be wonderful... Have patience with yourself.. I wish you well. DC
@DjTommyKx Do not be sorry for showing emotion that is what makes us Human Beings. I know a few alcoholics and its hard because it is legal. Just remember that there is something bigger so just stay true to your beliefs and who ever he is will give you strength. My best wishes to you and yours I know you will beat it the demon. I send as much good energy your way I hope it can help. (May the best of your today's be the worst of your tomorrows.) Good Luck and Stay Strong my friend!

1. You also get great dissapointment and great failure in great risk.
2. The lesson being?
3. Makes sense.
4. True, but also most of the times a great stroke of unluck.
5. Yeah! Lets learn business rules so we can steal from a whole nation!
6. Anyone who lets a little dispute injure a great friendship, doesn't belong in a great friendship.
7. No brainer.
8. Good. Makes sense. EVERYBODY spends some time alone every day.
9. Can't get far in life not doing this...

@sigurjonv02 1. Of course. Otherwise it would be no risk.
2. To learn from your mistakes and not repeat them.
4. Of course it can seem like it some of the time. It's your state of mind that decides which.
5. I interpreted this as the need to be aware of precisely what you are doing, and the consequences of your actions. Though I could be wrong.
6. I guess it's a shame more people aren't infallible.
Clearly you know much of this - That doesn't devalue the information. For you or the rest of us.
