Obviously this is a better version. Paul Simon is a fantastic songwriter, but he ruins a lot of his own work by being criminally bland and overly polished.

This song is pointless played slow!! It's a song made for dancing to, and smiling to not falling asleep to and frowning to; he played it as a sad song, and I hate when people take happy songs, and make them dismal!! It's screwed up, damaging to the reputation of the song and should be illegalised!

i think you're quite mistaken zaarin. although the song was on the graceland album - one that was inspired greatly by Paul's time in S.Africa and the racial segregation there - i've read an interview with paul about this song saying that it was about him actually walking around Africa and feeling out of place the whole you can call me al/betty is about a dignataroy calling paul and his wife betty and al thinking that was their name and they found it funny.....

If i remeber correctly paul said the song was sill that the start of the second verse is actually a penis joke, and the whole a man walks down the street is... taken from the old joke beginner "a man walks into a bar" so yes it is a silly song even if it was about a serious topic (which by my accounts it's not) the lyrics are undeniably silly. Its ironic because jens' songs all have silly lyrics but serious/sentimental meaning. i don't believe he's missed the point at all

This is a fantastic version. I wouldn't mind hearing Jens sing the chorus, but a great cover has an artist's own take on the original song, his own interpretation. This is what Mr. Lekman did here.
