Apple iphone is crap phone . Why do you have to faff about change this and that. Nokia just lets you use a mp3 of your choice of song and there you have a ringtone. I am sick of wasting my time on this . Anyone interested in buying my phone???????

Genius mate, pity the Apple support staff are not as helpful and just tell you that you can only make and install custom ring tones by £PURCHASING£ them from the iTunes store. delete the one that in you changed in you music library but dont delete the file. You can then click and drag the song from the file and it with copy into the ringtone file automatically

Oh and those of you having trouble with renaming. Im using windows vista. I went to control panel>folder options>view> and un ticked the hide extension. That showed me that when I was trying to rename the file originally it was just adding the m4r before the m4a.

Now it works perfect.. YAY no more annoying iphone standard ringtone!

Yeah... That doesn't work. Windows 7 won't let me change the filetype, only the name of the file - so when i rename it to "m4r" nothing happens, it just changes it name to that.
