I don't use Cubase, but this video was surprisingly educational in general. I really don't think it matters what program you use, everything has a mixer so it's pretty easy to follow.
@jonkellypiano I have 4.0. When I looked up the various versions on Wikipedia, I didn't see an LE 4, but a 4.0. So it may be the same thing. Look where I find the maximizer, and see if its there on yours.
@jonkellypiano LE versions of cubase dont have many included plugins, you can get the cubase4/5 Essentials package that includes all the bonus plugins that the studio and standard editions have
1 question how to add more track inserts in a track ...it has only 8 inserts but i want 2 more ..somewhere i got it to route channel to fx channel or group chann; but how to ?can u make a video coz i cant find any info or video on the net on how to add more track inserts in cubase 5 help me i am a noob
@dontquit1000 It's just a reverb from the reverbs list. "Plate reverb" or something like that. Every voice is different, you have to listen and choose one that enriches the voice, but doesn't make it sound "computerized" or like the vocalist is singing in a barrell. When you have several voices, the "background choir" is an awesome choice. No. I don't use the same setting in the main. In the main is where I MAXIMIZE. Not on each individual track.
The vocal track is JUMPING up so high because it hasn't been brought under control with compression on its track...Bass guitar is one of the worst for this...Drums too...
@WyldeMagiK Thanks! I have found that numbers and even "jumping" of tracks is often not to be trusted. I used to stick strictly by what I would see in the numbers, for example (each track should not go over 0.0, and when they do, the RED flag jumps up), but if I tried to stick to that I was wasting my time. I did use compression, and it changed the sound too much for me. I'm always looking for a true-to-life sound. Also, rock band vs. crooners. Different mixing.
I hear you! It took me a long time to figure this out. Really, the best way to get it exactly how you want is to take it out to the car, along with other songs...all on the same CD, and you listen to it at a certain volume, like "35" on your car's stereo, and then flip to the radio, and the radio is just the right volume, "voila!" you've got it the right volume. If the radio blares at you...you had to turn your CD up too much. Go back and increase maximizer
A good help with getting the overall loudness of a mix right is an RMS meter after your brickwall limiter. I use TT Dynamic Range meter, but there are many VST options out there. Run your favorite songs through it to get a feel for levels you are going for. It's easy to lose perspective on loudness in a mix and having some numbers to keep you on track doesn't hurt.
I use several CD players that have digital volume displays. My favorite is the car CD player (where most people listen to CDs most ). Typical range is 0-60. Volume won't go over 60. I noted that 30-35 is the right level for a professionally recorded CD. I push eject, and when radio comes on, it's also the right volume. So you do it the way many who record do... make a CD of your mixes and take it out to your car and listen. Adjust accordingly making all songs the same volume that way.
I really like the maximizer tool. Great video. Simple, short and easy to follow. One question tho, you said make every song on the cd 30-35 and it will have a professional sound. How do you do that? How do you make the volume at 30-35?

@btancredi1 Yup I looked. It's not there on mine. I have Cubase LE 4. I think LE = limited edition.
I guess I will have to find another way. Still a nice feature from what i am observing here.

what kind of effects do you have on Barbara's main vocal, and would you copy the same effect setting on the main to the copy track of Barbara?
