  • I think we care so much becuse our lives aren't as interesting as celebrities lives.

  • We care so much cause we know them, and despite the fact they don't know us, we care about people we know, so we care about them! So if your neighbour does something stupid you'll probably care as well ^^

  • Appealing presenatation and nice messages! But all communication in the end involves considering others extensions of ourselves. When you read a book, watch a movie, even talk to somebody else we are experiencing empathic extension. And I should add, not all of them are good for one's development. You could say celebrity attachement is a reflection of retarded development because it doesn't come out of fulness but out of lack and deprivation.

  • the reason we care so much is because kanye is black

  • LET'S DO IT! :D

  • you are a god. i am bleeding.

  • i want dan brown on my body everytime i see one of his videos (;

  • The reason Kanyes inturruption ticked me off was because it was downright RUDE! It was totally outta line and I honestly do wonder what possessed him 2 do that

  • i would say we care alot about celebrity becuase without celebreties their wouldnt be any talent in the world and imagine the world without movies, music etc... im grounded for a week without t.v or guitar and im going insane !!!!!!!!!!!! XD

  • coz celebrity scandals r usually something about drugs, or romance or something but somebody sort of being mean to someone at a music award thing is different so it becomes interesting

  • i don't think it matters that they are celebretys... they are people, and we are too. so if there happens anything... not nice... we care about it isn't nice ... i think

  • I loved the last part.

    xxD

  • so... when a person sees an argument, it takes an opinion and defends it as if it is ITSELF... :O thanks for insomnia dan.

  • the reason is because Taylor Swift is such a dimepiece

  • the reason we care so much is because we are all insane

  • Dude the tags tags that he put in this video are hilarious he put Handsome and Yo ima let you finish (in case you don't find that finish you didn't watch the VMAs of 09

  • y do my balls itch whenever i watch youtube

  • Nah. Now it's me.

  • Because some celebrities, in this case Taylor Swift, are idolized as someone who just radiates innocence like some kind of magic unicorn-puppy hybrid. Because of that, we feel that if something bad happens to this metaphorical Goddess among men, who in fact did nothing wrong, is attacked (verbal or physical) by someone, we jump to her defense.

Others, like John Gosselin, are viewed as horrible, horrible people, so we see bad things as they're comeuppance and don't care as much.

  • So I like how you think but how about this: If we follow celebrities because we look up to them, what about the celebrities we trash? Say... Jon Gosselin? For some reason, he was a big highlight in the 2009 media, but most of it was about how we hate him? So why would we care about him so much if we don't actually care about them? Most of the media/pop culture/ entertainment news is about celebrities going into rehab/ cheating on spouse... why do we care about that if it is negative?

  • God dammit! Did you have to rickroll us?

  • Okay Dan and world. Here's my opinions, thoughts, and desires.

    ^_^

Basically, Dan your theory on celebrities takes the words right out of my mouth. So I agree with you completely.

    Here's a thought...

I find it interesting that you (in general) live your daily life, not knowing of someone else's existence as they're living their life. Then suddenly, the roads of fate on the interweb led to a crossing and BOOM! you're aware of another's existence!

    crazy.

    agrees=dan

  • because humans all SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

  • Dan.. man you are brilliant. iam like your #1 fan..

  • I think that we see celebrities as people who are wonderful and deserve to be protected. When something happens to them, it's upsetting because it's like something happens to your friend.

  • I LOVE THE FLAVA FLAV OUTFIT.

  • Brilliant. A little bit of social science, psychology, and philosophy rolled into one.

  • I think that we cared so much about what happened because, we put ourselves in her position, millions of people watching you live, then your moment... ruined... well thats what i think

  • at 2:00 i Jizzed in my pants

  • I think we get offended because we (or atleast myself) accord most people a basic level of courtesy, which includes not interrupting them and acting like an egocentric d-bag.

  • I'm going to let you finish, but nitric oxide was one of the best molecules of all time!

  • I would love Dan Brown on my body.

  • chuck norris is a badass.

  • epic win to dan XD nice rickroll son, nice.

  • we care cuz it was her first ever VMA and that dick hand the nerv to get up and say that she didnt deserve it and that is y btw i love her

  • I thought that Rickroll was going to be for real haha... Anyways, it's true, people should actually give importance to things that matter. Not what Britney Spears did or what the First Lady wore last weekend... But I agree with you that people think about Celebs because that's what they fantasize about... having the "famous lifestyle". Yup! (:

  • I already had a thing against Kanye (because of previous things he's done, said, ect.), but i still like some of his music and i started to forget some of those things... then this happened and it just reminded of how much of a little b**** Kanye is. And I felt bad for Swift ... I put myself in her place ... and yeah ... blah.

  • people die of aids... people get rickrolled...HAHAHA

  • We care so much because its two completely popular celebrities coming together on one of the biggest stagest of em all. Its two completely different people who sing different types of music coming together argue.

  • i think we care so much because they celeberties hang around alot and we get used to them, we becom attacted to them, and it makes us mad to see them get hurt.

face it, we are wrapped around their fingers

  • i think we care so much because it was just so public. You could see her so excited to get the award and then watch her face fall as he did what he did.

  • I think we care so much about celebrities because most of them today are worthless and we're just waiting for them to ruin their own lives.

  • "its kinda fun to pretend" hahaha

  • Sorry...I got to rambling there. But to answer your question more directly Dan...I think the main reason I care about celebrities so much is the same reason I care about people in politics: their power! I hate to see these people get away with things that NO ONE else would have gotten away with JUST because they're famous.

  • Yeah, I'm sure half the people out there were just as disappointed that Beyonce didn't win, but if Beyonce had won, just as many people would have been disappointed that Swift didn't win. I don't let the Oscars determine what I listen to. I don't even believe the Oscars to be fair anyway (it's more political than anything else). So my inability to understand why Kanye flipped out so much is why I find his reaction to be so ridiculous and unacceptable.

  • I cared because it was rude. I see people win awards all the time who I feel are less deserving than the others, and I've learned to just shrug it off. But this guy feels that, because he's famous, he can rip the mic away!? What B.S. I think I care more about this case than others because I feel jipped...here I am accepting the fact that stupid Little miss Sunshine wins oscars over great movies, and Kanye West feels he doesn't have to keep his big mouth shut because he's famous!?

  • Well, one theory I've heard about why we care so much relates to the factor of influence. I believe I heard this during the Martha Stewart incident when people were debating about whether or not her punishment was too easy or too harsh...most people said it was too harsh and the argument was (1) she's rich and the small fines you and I would get wouldn't hard enough and (2) since she's such a large influence on people, she must be punished to prove a point.

But that's not my main reason...

  • so true...

  • ahah totally agree

  • very nice thery, i very much so agree.

  • "People get rick rolled!"

I fell on the floor laughing! Keep it up!

    p.s. Chuck Norris ROCKS!!!!!

  • HAHA I agree that was hilarious!

  • you talk too much Dan!!...

    lol!!...

    ;-)...

  • haha yessir your theory is definitely valid. I concur...

  • lol some of the theries you come up with are almost to true

  • whats that song that comes on in the middle??? i think ive heard it somewhere....

  • your remind me of alton brown

  • Ahhh a very nice theory, I think you have something here.

  • i think its dumb that people obesess over the celebrities. they're just people like you and me. they aren't as perfect as the media shows them as. they want them to look perfect so we feel worse and buy their products because we thhink its like a magic potion that will make us prettier, etc. but everything they do is touched up. i think we should just let them be.

  • you know what i understand from this? Dan's little act at the end showed this analogy:

Taylor Swift : Beyonce :: Pogobat : Fred

Now, even though pogobat is better in quality than fred, fred has more subscribers. Thus, in the dan brown universe inside dan brown's head, beyonce has more fans than taylor swift, but taylor swift has more quality in her songs than beyonce.

  • Wow...that was sorta metaphorically deep lol

    Great theory, very valid :)

  • "THE GREAT KANYE/SWIFT DEBACLE OF "09!!! " funny bahaha

  • LOLZ ending!!

  • i care so much because i like her music

  • GREAT theory, and love the ending XD

  • I think what you saying is very true, we all think about being famous and if we can watch what they do we can imagine us in the same situation. it seems logical. :)

  • i thnk what your saying dan makes a hoooole lot of sense, and you can extend what your saying from not just sports but movies too. we watch batman movies not because we think we wil BE batman but because somewhere inside we see little parts of our characters in different characters of the movie. and its almost like somewhere inside we want to see what we would act like with that kind of power.

  • You're right, Kanye West was right, I'm right.... wanna know who's wrong?? The poeple who chose Swift to win that award! She totally stole the concept off an Avril Lavigne video! But even so, why do I care? Hmmm because I believe in justice and justice was not served with Swift winning that award!

  • wow you TOTALY missed the entire point of this video. go put this comment on someones video who is trying to beat the horse even more lol. this is a theory to why we like watching celebrities not weather taylor swift should have gotten the award......you didnt even listen to what he said did you -.-

  • They reason we care is because we have nothing else to do in maybe 2 or 3 months no one will ever remember wtf happened. Unless you have know life and has a shrine of Taylor Swift in your closet and a DEATH shrine of Kanye West in your bathroom.

  • i love ur use of vocab.!

  • lovin' the lime green flippers (:

  • Marry me... hahaha

  • true words, dan brown. I always thought that celebrities werelike everyone friends and enemies th\at the general public can all hate or love. it makes us feel connected.

  • Great video Dan! Awesome theory you're right!

  • This is a rather brilliant theory, but I think for most celebs, we worship them as we do because they entertain us. First with their music and their videos and what not, and then with their drama. Humans LOVE drama. Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift leaves an opportunity for drama, so everyone holds their breath. It's ridiculous, but I find it ensnares even me :)

  • finnaly someone who makes sense

  • thanks for wasting 3 minutes of my life.

  • whooooooooa, douche bag alert. Dan brown wastes noone's time. If you don't want to waste your life, you sure as shit shouldn't be on YOUTUBE. Dan Brown talks about current topics that he thinks will relate to the masses, if that isn't your cup of tea, fuck off. Don't sit here and dis a perfectly legitimate guy just trying to please people. Just because he doesn't please you doesn't mean the world ends.

  • goof

  • Fred sucks!!!!

  • put chuck norris in the tags...

  • i loved the end xD

  • good point

  • I pretty much agree with your theory.

  • So great!! =D

  • i have no idea wat u just said so i grabbed a pencil stabbed my finger and used the blood 4 ink and started 2 draw super mario and george lopez shooting each other with semi automatic pistols...

    plz dont judge me =(

  • lmao

  • no u didnt dont lie idiot ur 2 pussy 2 do that

  • lol... yeah Dan i see where youre coming from and i strongly agree with you. but i also thinm we obsess over celebrities because of entertainment they have talent and without talent we would be sad :( so when taylor got the award we were like 'oh yeah she really deserves that she has great talent'. and we're happy for her. then Kanye - wat the,.. you kno wat i'm saying

  • ahahahahaha rick rolled!

  • Flavor Flav costume at the end not kanye lol

  • people care so much about celebs b/c compared to their lives, ours suck... unless you're oprah rich

  • have i ever wanted dan brwon on my body? no not realy lol

cool ending btw luv it :D

  • This is all old already

  • I don't watch mtv... but I find your analysis very well done.

  • ...because we're ignorant =P but yeah i agree, i don't get why we're so obsessed with it, i mean we've probably done worse in our life

  • wow deep... if they're extentions of ourselves then who are we??????

  • Maybe Jay-Z should be more careful who he signs. but if celebs are an extension of ourselves, is Dan Brown an extension of me?

  • The only reason why I personally felt... Crushed? When the whole issue came out about the Kanye/Swift bit is that it looks badw for him, I like Taylor as a person, I like her music and I felt bad for Beyonce.

Otherwise when peaple do that to other regular peaple I feel the same emotions. :/ <3

  • I don't agree at all. The idolatry of celebrities isn't really indicative of a healthy society, but one incapable of coping with daily pressures.

Basically, it serves as a release, a distraction, something to look at that's actually exciting.

America isn't great. There are high numbers of people losing their homes because they cannot afford health care, and really there's a lot of crime.

I think the US has... 25% of the world's incarcerated population. There are other reasons for this too.

  • The average stress levels are also relatively high, and the divide between the rich and the poor is absolutely huge (10% of the population controls 90% of the wealth, or thereabouts).

  • kanye west sucks...as a person and as a so called celeb...a truly weak ass. There is a great sign on Charolette Pike in Nashville that simply states the truth...kanye west sucks.

  • IF YOU LIKE TAYLOR SWIFT: keep the opinion you had on both kanye and taylor before the VMAs IF YOU LIKE KANYE WEST: keep the opinion you had on both kanye and taylor before the VMAs IF YOUR LIKE ME: you think what happened at the VMAs was really funny, i still like both taylor and kanye because they make good music; no-one did anything wrong "simple" =P

  • Taylor Swift sucks..

  • they both suck.

  • i think your right, but i also think its kind of an escape of our own lives. I think that we think getting involved in thier lives seems better than trying to get involved with our own

and i hate getting rick rolled, its so annoying! -_-

  • You're probably right about why we care about what happens to famous people, but I am also interested in why we don't care as much about the horrible stuff that happens to everyone else.

I think this is becuase its easier to think of those people who are starving as an "other" and that makes it easier to not be responsible for the "other" because they are seperate. Woot for John Green and imagining peoiple more complexly. : )

This is exactly what popped into my head when you asked that.

  • I just realised: there's SHOES on the wall! HAHAHA! thats cool.

  • i like all your opinions dan. i like the end. lol

  • I know he was just talking about how he was questioning why we care about that stuff, I don't, but I'm never going to listen to Kanye-ever.

  • ...People get rick-rolled...

XDDD best. movie. ever. just for that! XD

  • West seems like a mildly retarded porch monkey.

  • hahahahaha,i like that

  • i agree! with the celebrity theory. its like, celebrities just don't seem real to us, like they're not actually people. or something. but yeah, there's some kind of weird fascination there somewhere.

  • I love your wall!!!!!! OMG! but i did listen to the video and im so sick of everyone doing the "kanye move" even my school did it at our play! ugh

  • i totally agree..

there are much more imporant and well lets just face it... interesting things to talk or think about...

  • i am so SICK of this situation. people are taking everything too extreme. GET OVER IT. besides, she kind of deserved it after being a little bitch towards joe when she tried to make him look bad for kicking her ass to the curb last year. KARMA is a bitch taylor. but kanye's an egotistical ass, so they both fail. but STILL i mean damn man...everyone just needs to get over it already. especially since it wasnt a big of a deal in the first place.

  • u r weird!!

  • 2:23

no, I just don't play madden.

    I play Counter-strike thank you.

  • i think people these days like drama and something to tawk about so yeahh kanye was drunk but he is good at waht he does

  • best comment ever.

  • thanxx

  • Very fresh outlook on this whole incident for a change, rather than a rant, it was given an insightful analyzation on how it affected people. 5 stars, and I pretty much agree with your view on this one Dan :)

  • In Freudian psychology people are seen as very angry beings. However their superego keeps them from expressing anger in a way that would seem inappropriate. When things like this happen (Kanye West clearly acting like a jerk), it gives people an excuse to safely release some of their anger in a way that's deemed appropriate. How many people here really care about what happens to people at the Grammies? Some but not many. However people like to use situations like this to release their emotions.

  • possible over other things he may have said like bush hates black people , that is readlly what is fueling the white outrage

  • Look Danyay umm first of all i agree we dont play video games because we think we will all beas famous as yao ming, but look what kanye did was fucking annoying! He is a baby and is always doing gay stuff like this on live tv so Kanya i hpe ure happy. Taylor never did anything to u!!!!!

  • If Kanye wants to do something good for the world he should do what the great Christopher Reeves did and become wheelchair bound. It's the only way to win back the people. Get in the wheelchair Kanye. And your not getting your dessert until you bob your head against that little orange ball thing like Christpher Reeves.

  • only one who still cares r white people, they are still pissed cause he told the truth about bush , not pissed cause u care about taylor she has done well in all of this

black people said it was wrong , he said sorry what ever get over it it's mtv they are almost of the air anyway ,

he got nothing out of doing this ,

just made himself look bad and he didn;t even do it for himself

and b video was amazing for adult

    swift cute for little girls

    what ever

  • I'm pretty sure it's not just white people...and it's nothing to do with what he said about Bush. Are you aware of how many people hate Bush? White people included.

  • yeah it is just white people at this point and most extreme reactions are coming from them

  • Kanye is gay.

  • tayor swift ftw <3 *

  • Comment removed

  • um i never liked kanye west so yeah it gives me a reason to not like him

  • ...true...

  • I normally don't care what celebrities do but I think Kanye has alot, and all he does is bitch & complain! It angered me more because he was not only rude, but like a crying baby! I would have liked to see him do that with a different celebrity, instead of with someone who is sweet & quiet! Thanks for pointing out that with all the tragedy in the world, why get upset with this!! Certainly makes me wonder why the hell I cared in the first place!

  • 5000 Stars for the pop-up of CHUCK NORRIS!!!!

  • okay at first i thought this was gay and duMB but you speaking the truth LoL Ur cooL man

  • lol your videos r sik

  • controversy sales, I wouldnt be surprised if someone paid kanye to do that. not to mention beyonce is dating a FreeMason (Yes, JayZ is a free mason.) people didnt get nearly as up set when ol dirty bastard has his inturruption speech in the grammys a few years back

  • i would say something witty about your video Dan, but what you have said in this video, is sufficient.

  • You, sir......might be right.

  • wow that's some deep stuff

  • this is posted as a video reposnse to a video thats on dans secret channel davedaysfangirl

  • You know Dan Brown I don't get the t-shirt. With a sheep instead of you. Does that mean I'm a sheep? a black one maybe at that but still! Change it to U and I'd be likely to buy one.

  • the sheep represents the word you because another word for sheep is "ewe" I believe.

  • i think we care so much about that incident because i think we all feel empathetic for her.

i mean. that must have been so embarrassing for her to be standing up there, supes excited, and then just get totally insulted, right on stage.

its not a HUGE deal. it is just like, really embarrassing for her to have to deal with.

  • P: I love you.

  • Her first VMA and she got interrupted ?? :(

Something is rotten in the states of united.

  • your vlogs are much better than those celebs'.

    :)

    u got a point.

  • Dan, its in front of millions of people watching, seeing and living that moment. Taylor was so happy to win and then she was crying in the end that thankfully nobody saw on camera.

    Kanye is a douchenozzle.

  • BECAUSE WE ARE INTRIGUED BY CONTROVERSY. and yes, i could care less about celebs.

  • we have nothing better to do...

so we follow and obsess over select people,

    it is really quite crazy...

    =P

  • Haha wow that's a lot of $2 bills

  • Well.... it WAS her FIRST award.

  • Upapasonic you are a huge ass duche bag just becase they are a different couler then us

  • You spell color COLOR in canadian and COLOUR in american, pick one but u can't make up ur own ..."couler'? whats that ?

  • LOL. The end is full on win.

  • i don't rly give a fuck about celebs

  • great ending

  • Because it was on National TV

  • we care because Americans like the complain about things in place of actual conversation.

  • LOL rick rolled!!!!!!!

  • Both Kanye and 50 Cent deserves whip marks on their backs.

  • holy shit duude, you have a warped-ass mind

  • I cant believe you rick rolled me Dan. I thought we were friends.

  • dan brown. start a religion and i will follow you. :D

  • 3:21 yummy swatty

aids killing ppl and getting rickrolled in one breath, ahhh a touch too much but still good vid

  • haha chuck norris vid = epic win

  • i see in kanye west what i do not see in myself...a self-centered asshole. i don't even know who taylor swift is so i'm not even talking about this award show incident.

  • Whoa you're genius

  • kayne/swift is gonna turn into the new tupac/biggie smalls issue! :)

  • I didn't get annoyed. I thought it was hilarious for approx 5 seconds..and then i got over it -.-'

and yes there are far worst things. If anything its boosted that girls career. everyone should stop taking it so seriously

  • Okay...try harder to be like sXe Phil. You're almost there.
