Cappas are worn from the feast of the Holy Cross on Sept 14, the beginning of the old long monastic lent, until Holy Saturday, when they are removed at the start of the Gloria and not worn than for the rest of the liturgical spring and summer.
Where is that in the rubrics? Oh wait...it isn't. It is actually a far more ancient custom for the Friars to move when singing their prayers, singing processionals and all that. The REAL question you should be asking is; where are their cappas?
it is such a nice and wonderful song, but I am quite cant sing it because it has some high notes... but being a candidate for initiation in a Dominican Secular Institute I must persevere to study and learn it. thanks for posting it because through this I know I can easily learn how to sing it well...
Thank you so much for posting this! You're a life saver! The Dominican Master General is coming to my school and I was requested to play an organ version of this for him when he celebrates mass with us. I found it difficult to find a recording, and I am quite pleased you have it. Thanks again!
thank you so much for posting this! Last week, I heard this wonderful salve regina for the first time at the celebration of the perpetual vows of three Dominican friars in Augsburg and i just loved it! wish it were more commonly sung in the convents, but i think it's more difficult than the usual salve...
In the Far East, "Gentlemen & Ladies" is said, because they don't want the Ladies come First, due to Eva's Error. They don't want to repeat that. Jesus was One of those, Who suppressed His Mom's Request at Cana. In the West End, "Ladies & Gentlemen" is said, because our Beloved Heavenly Father's Goodness is beyond Descriptions. He created Mary Immaculate as our Beloved Mom, so that we could go to Her & be Immaculate Ones. Our Father is More Right than All. So, we can be His Immaculate Children.

You are blessed. Every night I pray for a vocation to cistercian life. If I may be so bold..I ask that you please consider offering your prayer on my behalf, that God lead me in His path and instruct me in His way. I truly hope that path leads me to the monastery.
:) I was in a benedictine convent also discening my vocation, i will pray for you dear brother,,if you may please think of me also in your prayers, for i am still considering the life.
aquilaEla, God will bless you as you take this life-time decision. i will pray with you as i really appreciate your interest in the salvation of souls. may God continue to light the path of your life. Amen.
It means a great deal to have your support, there ae so few ctholics that i know of here in the west that are appreciative of this life. Whatever road i end up taking in the end i do not know :S,,,but thankyou and God bless you !

Why are they processing/recessing whilst chanting the 'Salve Regina'? They should be still and facing the image of Our Blessed Lady.

@videohoster
Cappas are worn during the winter and then taken off during Easter.
BlackCappa 2 years ago
Not in the English Province...as far as I've ever seen. Perhaps because it's colder.

@videohoster
That's possible. It would be terrible over here in the summertime to have to wear the Cappa...
BlackCappa 2 years ago
is it only for easter? or only until winter comes again?
TheEcumenator 1 year ago
Here they take em off from Eastern to the beginning of winter or fall? Not sure. But no cappas for summer.

Isn't this San Clemente's in Rome? I was once there long ago. Sts. Cyril & Methodius are buried there.
