70% of civic si have problem with third gear. All the si I tested at dealer have grind with third gear. Don't buy an Si. EX and HX are better than si, also faster, trust me.
i posted a comment two years ago joking about the idea of ths..but ran into the problem myself..my tranny was still under warrenty so i told them to check the 3rd and 2nd gear synchronizer's ..they drove it and noticed i was lying...so they replaced them and whammo problem fixed..then they tried selling me a new shifter..wtf..did you break it asshole?
i got an 06 coupe, this happens to me once and a while. when i go in to third gear i think im in already and then u hear a grinding sound.my suggestion is to just make sure it goes in nice and slowly.
Yes, I had a guy come in looking at the civic si on our lot and complained of the same thing and even "showed" it to me. However when i took over the drivers wheel i wasn't able to get it to "pop" out, the only time I could was when the clutch wasn't depressed all the way dowm, it doesn't take much, only like 1/2 an inch of travel that makes the difference. Easing it into 3rd also doesn't "pop" anything back out.
I own a 07 Si and I have this problem as well but It pops out maybe 2 or 3 times a week but I usually just ease it in 3rd to make sure it engages slow. But if i race i slamm it in there lol j/k it rarely happens but im surprised about this news
mine is in the shop as we speack. they are tearin it down. honda told me it maybe a lube problen and some sensors or some crap. will be ready it 3 days so ill let u all know how it turns out
i dont doubt that there is some sort of problem with the trans. i want to know why some people dont say what they really do with the car, like race it!!everyone knows how hondas are known in the street racing world and some people just say "oh its an si, i'll race it, warranty will cover it" then they cant drive and they *uck up the trans. if the dealership finds a problem they WILL fix it but if they cant duplicate it. then what do you want? something for free? let me guess, its warranty, right?
well there are a lot of people out there that are @itching about the third gear problem, or is it? see if you were to drive an si and shift it into third and let it bounce in third gear and it comes out of gear then there is a problem BUT if your driving the car and it FEELS stiff or SEEMS like its not in all the way and you go on to blame honda then your an idiot if you claiming your car comes out of third. all you got to do it put it in gear correctly.
...lol. yes, but its set differently. if you look under them, the physical component of accord is straight on, the civic is turned. it is a different set up...thus being a differnt car:) and civics have the problem, non of 6 speed accords do.
"and civics have the problem, non of 6 speed accords do."
Sorry, you're incorrect. The Honda TSB came out two months ago, and guess what, the 6 spd Accord and 6 spd Si transmissions are both included. There is lamentation all over 7th gen Accord forums about the synchro causing grinding, and also the gear popping out and being generally harder to get into. All three of these are clearly addressed in the TSB.
I am unfortunately a new owner of an 05 Accord 6 spd that is a couple months out of warranty. I know my car has this issue as it frequently pops out of 3rd gear at normal driving speeds, even though I perfectly synchronize all shifts. The dealership pretty much told me to go fly a kite, just like the prick I talked to at Honda of America. They won't touch anything out of warranty, even though half the cars affected are older than the three year factory warranty. What a bunch of BS.
I have the third gear issue on my Acura (Honda) TL. I took it in to get it fixed and they swapped the fluid to a new fluid which worked for 2 months. The problem came right back; so disappointing.
and not only that if people would stop driving their cars like they are nascar drivers we wouldnt have many issues with cars going to crap. just because it has a sporty engine dosnt mean you can drive it that way. its unsafe and puts alot of people in danger.
FYI cars off the lot have this problem... and its a problem ever sinve 03 with the rsx's and the s2000's, it has nothing to do with how hard you drive it.
STOP YOUR FUCKING BITCHING, Audi S4's have 1st AND 2nd gear issues, are we protesting over it? Fucking pathetic.
Maybe I should get my forum buddies to contact FOX news too... maybe Audi will give us free cars.

This is a well known issue to the new Civic SI. Honda really needs to do something about it. It's a good move to get the media involved.

hyperluv 4 years ago
well it is a problem with the si's only. my guess it is the clutch system used in the high performance tranny.
