I was planning to get a 4 GB for $20 at Target because when I reserved and bought my Vita there I got a $20 gift card. But, they gave me a 4 GB memory card when I got it. So if you want a pretty good deal, go to Target. They also have buy 2 Vita games, get 1 free. So getting Wipeout 2048, FIFA, and Uncharted: Golden Abyss with a Wi-Fi Vita for just around $340.

The only devices you see now-a-days that actually use memory sticks are SONY products. They could have simply used SD cards, and the world would have applauded them. The memory stick pro duo sticks (16GB) at Wal Mart are $80. The 32GB Vita stick is $100. To me that reasonable. And yes, I bought one for my Vita already. :)
I got the uncharted 3 PS3 bundle for $300 and got about 320gb of free space and a free game, PS Vita $250 no memory and no game. Does anyone else legitly feel trolled.
Pirates don't even have to make a physical adapter for it. All they have to do is hack the Vita and dump the card directly from the Vita via a USB cable.

I've heard all about the other faults with this system - I'm unimpressed. The cameras are shit (worse colours than the 3DS camera), web browser is shit, the high reflectiveness of the screen is bad. The only thing I'm impressed with is Sony's ability to skimp.

In the Netherlands you wont get a memory card if you pre-order. The only thing you get is a pre-order box with shit you dont need. I ordered a 16GB card for 50 euro cause the downloadable games wil be arround 1GB average. With 10 games and some music even 16 GB is nothing!!! I am going to love the vita but what Sony does with the memory cards feels like a kick in my nuts!

It's because they aren't making a profit on the console. They need to overcharge for cheap things to manufacture like memory cards. They are easily making a 2500% profit on each one they sell.
It's the same reason retailers always try and sell you the bullshit overpriced game cases and screen protectors. They don't make much profit on the hardware and make it with other overpriced shit.
Gamestop currently has the prices at 16GB for $60 and 32GB for $100. That is absolute INSANITY. Fuck those greedy motherfucking cocksuckers. This has to be the worst pricing I think I've ever seen for a handheld system.

The part of the reason why Sony decided to provide their proprietory (sp?) memory card is so that they can satisfy their insurance and legal precident. It is easier deal with a person who broke the security measure to be procecuted for piracy. By altering or using tool to circumvent the security measure is enough to punish you with federal level crime.

@Joemasacure XBox isn't really better. The original 360 came out with no Wi-Fi(you had to pay 100$ to remedy that), the controllers unlike the PS3 didn't come with rechargeable batteries, their online barely gives anything, yet has a monthly fee. Microsoft made a 30$ game(Halo ODST) into a 60$ game, despite what Bungie wanted.
They screw around with the market and deny free products from companies, trying to make them charge for it. Sony may be greedy, but Microsoft isn't innocent either.
I can understand them trying to combat piracy by making a proprietary memory card, but you don't have to rape the consumers by charging outlandish prices for them. I don't have a business degree but I would rather sell 10 memory cards at $60 a piece rather than 1 memory card at $120. But that is what's going to happen. Good Luck Sony.
Good job man. There profit and sales aren't our problem. The consumer just wants to enjoy great video games at a reasonable price. Although the memory sticks have gone through a minor price drop ($120 32GB is now selling for $100 on Gamestop's website) it is still way overpriced. I remember when the PSP came out and i thought it was the shit and the memory price was amazing. Now Sony is so scared of being hacked again that they are fucking us over. Power to the gamers and boycott the memory.
Sorry Sony but I'll pass. Sony lost me after so many "versions" that weren't necessary. I had the original PSP and it pissed me off that games were expensive, lacked good titles, didn't have another analog stick and didn't have a video out (which the newer ones did).

I suppose it depends on the read/write speeds. A good Class 10 32gb card can cost close to $100, and those kinds of speeds are required for certain high end dslr's or hd video cameras. With a standard or micro Sony memory card, you can get them from most retailers that sell electrical goods. A new owner of a Vita can get a card more easily - and increasing the chance of a sale for Sony. With a Vita...it will narrowed down only to places that sell the Vita.
On top of that is additional development and production costs for such a machine-specific card.
Sony have a history for overpricing their consoles and i wasnt surprised when they released it either. Im just waiting for Sony to Redsign the PSVita, so i will only have to pay $150.

The original 360 came out with no Wi-Fi(you had to pay 100$ to remedy that), the controllers unlike the PS3 didn't come with rechargeable batteries, their online barely gives anything, yet has a monthly fee. Microsoft made a 30$ game(Halo ODST) into a 60$ game, despite what Bungie wanted.
They screw around with the market and deny free products from companies, trying to make them charge for it. Sony may be greedy, but Microsoft isn't innocent either.

I can understand them trying to combat piracy by making a proprietary memory card, but you don't have to rape the consumers by charging outlandish prices for them. I don't have a business degree but I would rather sell 10 memory cards at $60 a piece rather than 1 memory card at $120. But that is what's going to happen. Good Luck Sony.

Good job man. There profit and sales aren't our problem. The consumer just wants to enjoy great video games at a reasonable price. Although the memory sticks have gone through a minor price drop ($120 32GB is now selling for $100 on Gamestop's website) it is still way overpriced. I remember when the PSP came out and i thought it was the shit and the memory price was amazing. Now Sony is so scared of being hacked again that they are fucking us over. Power to the gamers and boycott the memory.

Sorry Sony but I'll pass. Sony lost me after so many "versions" that weren't necessary. I had the original PSP and it pissed me off that games were expensive, lacked good titles, didn't have another analog stick and didn't have a video out (which the newer ones did).

I suppose it depends on the read/write speeds. A good Class 10 32gb card can cost close to $100, and those kinds of speeds are required for certain high end dslr's or hd video cameras. And 32gb ssd's aren't cheap either. It blows, but if that's cost of being an early adopter. Suck it up. And get fucking laid.... you're so tense!

$120 (now $100) for 32GB memory which is 'vita only', and most likely the majority of a memory stick's functiallity (like music, movies and images) gone is a fucking rip off. worst thing is, i was totally gonna hit on a vita till i heard about the crappy prices. adding insult to this, the memory sticks can only support one PSN account at a time, meaning getting multiple accounts is gonna be even more expensive. looks like im treating the vita like a 3DS and wait for an epic price drop.

This is a stupid business mistake by Sony. Did they ever think of the availability of these cards?
With a standard or micro Sony memory card, you can get them from most retailers that sell electrical goods. A new owner of a Vita can get a card more easily - and increasing the chance of a sale for Sony. With a Vita...it will narrowed down only to places that sell the Vita.
On top of that is additional development and production costs for such a machine-specific card.
