I was watching the Doctor (who) get back stabbed and betrayed by some sort of skinny steam punk villain. and a sub villain plot set up with Jonathan pryce. I think I was just watching some of my favorite pre-established characters doing something else together
This looks like an authentic GI JOE movie. I did like the first one (although I cant recommend it to anyone). And how crazy was that Bruce Willis cameo at the end.

@ouboet Batman and Robin is one of the greatest unintentional comedies I've ever seen. Everything from the jokes that fall completely flat, the ridiculous storyline and the awfully unconvincing costume/makeup design (you can clearly see Arnie's bald cap, throughout the movie).
Honestly, watch it again with your friends with a few beers and just rip it apart. It's very entertaining. I promise!

Never say the first, it looked like shit, but I think Retaliation looks cool. I find it hilarious that the writers wanted to disassociate Retaliation from Rise of Cobra by killing off Channing Tatum and almost all the Joes from the first film (seen in the trailer). That alone makes me want to see it.
Stephan Sommers is a visionless hack. He's an immature Michael Bay. Mark made a great point about Jon Chu and filming the dance moves, Fight choreography these days blow and a guy who knows how to film something like dance artistically should be able to film action as well. He may not be an action director but those are the kind of things you need to lay the foundation for a good action film. Who knows he might pull off a Justin Lin and blow everyone away.
I'll just say this, the trailer doesn't look like a trailer for a GI Joe movie. It looks like a trailer for a Fast and Furious movie (as you stated). It looks like a majority of the movie will be nothing more then the Rock and I'm guessing Bruce Willis (because he almost never takes a role that's just a cameo). That's not what GI Joe is about. It's a team concept. It's like making a X-Men movie but just with Wolverine in it. Idk, it'll probably be fine, but I just don't see it as a GI Joe movie.
On the 1st movie I so desperately wanted to like it but it got just sooooooo much wrong from the comics and even the cartoon! Also, Bruce Willis is playing Joe the original GIJoe! Yes, it the context of the comics the old Joe from the 50s-70s toyline was a single man and the 1st Joe in GIJoe he was the one that created the team! So basically he's a rela badass too! like he's been in each of the armed forces!

Also they're basically killing off all the characters from the 1st movie except Snake-Eyes because he was the only one they got right for the most part from the comics and a lesser extent the cartoon! From the trailer I can see that they got Cobra Commander in his classic mirrored mask!

i liked the ACTION sequences in the first movie. everything else (especially the dialog and storyline) i found to be mediocre at BEST. i think Rise Of Cobra was sort of decent, but definitely a far stretch from what i thought it was going to be when i saw the trailer at the super bowl that year

I really hated GI Joe, but that trailer made me pumped, I usually don't get pumped by trailers.
I also believe John Choo might have been an excellent choice. The Step Up films aren't the greatest films in the world, but those dance scenes are beautiful and I even got chills sometimes. Dance cinematography can translate really well into Action cinematography!

Never saw the first one, but this one looks really cool. My one issue is that very few of the actors from the first one are returning, maybe that's a good thing since the first one didn't get very good reviews, but the fact that Duke and Snake Eyes are the only returning for the G.I. Joes (and Duke seems to die) kinda annoys me.

I love that the fact that I found the Seven Nation Army remix song a couple weeks before tells me a couple things 1. I'm great at finding new music 2. The trailer industry uses the songs off my iPod (or maybe it's the other way around :) and 3. I love the internets. I'm not very excited for this even though the trailer is pretty bad ass. The first one was amusing...like, on the submarine, Eccleston is talking with two people in two different locations via holograms. And he's walking around with the hologram people beside him.
So I'm like, "these people he's talking to...do they each have a floorplan of his submarine in their offices with matching hologram camera/projector systems? What are the logistics of having a conversation via rotating holocams like these?"
Definitely looks worlds better than the first. Still going in with low expectations just to be safe. I'm on the same page as you guys, though.. I just want it to be a Fast Five kind of movie. something entertaining.

That would be like making another live action version of He-Man and not having Skeletor in there. The second thing I wondered is where the hell is The Baroness? We need the sex appeal. i liked the ACTION sequences in the first movie. everything else (especially the dialog and storyline) i found to be mediocre at BEST. i think Rise Of Cobra was sort of decent, but definitely a far stretch from what i thought it was going to be when i saw the trailer at the super bowl that year

i feel like im gonna get ripped off when i see this movie...im such a huge fan of snake eyes so ill see it because of him, and its like man trailer is awesome....movie will be total shit. please please please dont be a bad movie....please let this movie be the awesome movie it should be. because GI joe has the potential to be fucking fantastic. i like the cobra commander look in this, so we shall see

I really hated GI Joe, but that trailer made me pumped, I usually don't get pumped by trailers.
I also believe John Choo might have been an excellent choice. The Step Up films aren't the greatest films in the world, but those dance scenes are beautiful and I even got chills sometimes. Dance cinematography can translate really well into Action cinematography!
Have you schmoes ever heard the term Bullet Ballet? ;P

I was intrigued by the first, purely for the presence of Ray Park as Snake Eye. That intrigue vanished somewhere between the start and end of the trailer.
After this trailer, I'm intrigued again...to say the least.

NOPE! not gonna even try, the first one left me groaning and upset, and i was actually excited (not about Wayans), and then it broke my heart. Also i found out that the reason that they didnt use the original Cobra commander mask in the first one was because they said the cast thought it looked to much like a KKK hood....SO wait, they didnt think a character that wanted to rule and destroy the planet should be associated with a hate group LOL what! ill wait for it on redbox, maybe...eh.

I'm sorry guys, but I'm not even giving this one a chance.
First off, the first left such a negative impression on me. I hated it more than Transformers 2.
Secondly, they recast alot of people... but they left Channing Tatum in?
Third, I thought it looked like somewhat of an improvement, until the Bruce Willis joke, in which I groan.
And fourth, for what purpose are you both wearing Star Wars shirts? Was there a "Down with Lucas" movement that you two took part in?

The first one was okay except for the last action scene under the sea. But it was a fun movie. Acting and one liners were horrible though.

My one issue is that very few of the actors from the first one are returning, maybe that's a good thing since the first one didn't get very good reviews, but the fact that Duke and Snake Eyes are the only returning for the G.I. Joes (and Duke seems to die) kinda annoys me.

I love that the fact that I found the Seven Nation Army remix song a couple weeks before tells me a couple things 1. I'm great at finding new music 2. The trailer industry uses the songs off my iPod (or maybe it's the other way around :) and 3. I love the internets. I'm not very excited for this even though the trailer is pretty bad ass. Oh look Bruce Willis. I need to get more up to date songs. I only have epic orchestrated pieces on my iPod.

The first one was amusing...like, on the submarine, Eccleston is talking with two people in two different locations via holograms. And he's walking around with the hologram people beside him.
So I'm like, "these people he's talking to...do they each have a floorplan of his submarine in their offices with matching hologram camera/projector systems? What are the logistics of having a conversation via rotating holocams like these?"
Made it a little more fun. I'll see the new one.

I watched the trailer and the first thing I wondered was where the hell is Cobra Commander? I didn't see him anywhere in the trailer, and when checking out IMDB, I didn't see the character listed anywhere. What is G.I. Joe without the arch villain? That would be like making another live action version of He-Man and not having Skeletor in there. The second thing I wondered is where the hell is The Baroness? We need the sex appeal. Bring Sienna Miller, in that tight black leather outfit, back!
