she by a 7 points.. and by my account if sasha landed her 2nd jump the flip..it will be a battle at the gold..this batch of ladies are the most exciting to watch...unlike the 2010 olympics!
I didn't realize that Shizuka was also using a choice of music by Chopin- fantaisie impromtpu. It is a challenging music for one to do the figure skating to. Its beautiful and an elegantly fitting piece for Shizuka Arakawa to choose this for her program. I also tried to play this on piano... it is VERY difficult for one to play with small hands.
Mao Asada skated to this music for her world championship title in 08......I think this was sold but comparing subtle artistry to the explosive grace of Cohen is like apples and oranges,....but it was sold
You are probably right. I guess it is just hard not to get caught up in her free leg height and flexability. Especialy when the Eurosport commentators even go crazy over it.
Oh yeah, Sasha is better than someone who consistently lands all of her jumps, has better spirals and just as good as spins, don't think so! Sasha can't land her jumps, plain and simple, so no she isn't better, she sucks!
I'll say it again, "SHIZUKA HAS A BETTER SPIRAL THAN SASHA", there! Better flow, better smooth edge and she gets her leg straight up without trying to flash the judges! LMAO!
I wouldnt compare....as competors Shizuka is stronger but Spirals, Spins, and Technique in jumps Cohen wins....they both when they are on are untouchable
and, in conclusion, she has actually completed two programs (short and long) in a competition without falling or screwing something up, yeah, and winning Worlds plus the Olympics, something Sasha has never done makes her better, at least when she had a the bad year she didn't blame anyone but herself, Sasha crying about the media and her coaches instead of herself, I have no respect for someone like that!
Sasha may have the best spirals but she has weaker edges and speed then Irina and Shizuka, smaller and weaker jumps then them even when landed, and she is bad under pressure and stumbles and misses jumps in big competition.
I don't agree about Irina's edges, all you have to do is watch her spirals at this Olympics to see how choppy her change of edge spiral was, it actually was quite horrible, and everything in catch-foot Bielman style, not good either. The way Shizuka lets go of her leg and completes the edge is amazing, I don't think either Sasha or Irina could do that.
OK fair enough. We both agree Sasha has the worst edges of all the top women though right. That is one of many reasons I think she was overhyped, since her edge quality was light years behind Arakawa, Kwan, Suguri, and some others. That plus her tiny jumps and that she cant skate a clean program under pressure to save her life.
Yes, very much agreed: terrible edges, a flutz that gives a rocking chair a bad name, and unable to complete two progams in one competition with a fall or messing something up, what a waste of potential and talent!
I read, she changed her coach a few month before the olympics. and with him also the music. for her free programm she chose the music from her free programm on 2004, when she became world champion.
originally this was the music for her free program right?? 'cuz i saw the japanese nationals and she used this same music in the long program! i guees she changed
Shizuka Arakawa + Irina Slutskaya both had higher Technical Marks than Sasha Cohen, but Cohen made it "happen" with the artistic mark. Still, Arakawa a wonderful performance.

sasha only beat her in the sp because of the goe on her lutz and because of the GOE on that huge flip that sadly was on an inside edge
MrAmazingness1234567 2 years ago
Sasha actually had less GOE on her lutz than Shizuka. Shizuka had a 0 and Sasha had -GOE.

IMO Shizuka had better transitions, footwork and spiral than Sasha and way better than Irina. She should have been first, IMO.

Perfect edge, no inside edge on the lutz combination. Flip gorgous, spiral, WOW! double axel. Spins, WOW! Great program!
MichelleKwanForever 4 years ago 6
I agree it was a strong program but to be fair, she does incorrectly use an outside edge on the flip jump.

Don't make any judgment. All of those ladies have done greatly. I admire to those ladies for performing on the NATIONAL OLYMPIC!

Hahaha, some people are confused with my comment. It's all right; it was just the Magazine article that I emphasized on. It's the same as an olympic.

Thanks for the upload. I always like Eurosport (British) coverage since they tend to be more objective.
