Yep. He and Lawler were best friends and he got Lawler into wrestling. He also used to be the 60s group "The Gentrys". Remember the song "keep on Dancin"? That's Jimmy.
Wow! I'm surprised they Jarrett even allowed them to film this, much less state what's stated on this video. I guess the 20/20 feature was well behind the time.
this is soo great. i am disheartened many times by the wrestling product today. watching this makes me remember how great wrestling could be. the fake emotion at shows today and people just looking for botches or highspots really makes me sick.
I agree. I remember when wrestling was fun. When commentators where interesting. When managers could help sell a match and work the mic like a true pro.
Thanks for posting this. I don't know anything about this period in wrestling and it's great to get an idea of where what is around today developed from. The good old days where real men beat each other up. Even the brief clips of fights in this look far more interesting than what is happening most of the time now.
How exactly was that breaking Kayfabe? Jarrett and Lawler didn't admit to anything. That's Tom Snyder of the show doing the voice-over, he did voice some comments about it being fake, but Jarrett and Lawler didn't substaniate his claims. I can tell you when I later became a heel manager in Memphis, the fans in some areas were STILL exactly like that. Scared for my life sometimes.
mm92280 is right, this really was breaking kayfabe. Curiousity, who was doing the voice over work? It kind of sounds like Ken Resnick. Or was it a local Memphis guy.
Man, I wish you had the entire thing. I'm absolutely amazed that they broke kayfabe for this one. They just completely shattered the myth of the "sport" by providing the insider view of wrestling. Also, its amazing to look at the audience and see how many easy marks there were in the crowd, lol. It really must have been tough to wrestle in that environment with the fans so close to the ring. Heck, you even see fans practically standing by ringside and trying to point things out to the ref.

Everyone with a southern drawl is a stupid redneck hick like all the fans in this video.
UltMitSinner78 4 years ago
Could that be because it was in Memphis in the late 1970's you childish twit? Newsflash, most southerners back then had a southern drawl.
