anybody mind explaining to me what the difference is with this and a normal subbie? cuz i dont really understand what difference the cam makes.. other than the weird noise it makes.. please be kind i really just wanna know.
It shifts the torque to higher rpms. The more torque at higher rpms the more horsepower. With stock cams, torque would max out earlier, and drop off at higher rpms. With these cams, torque would come on later but not drop off at the higher rpms. The formula is HP= Torque x (RPM/5252). So for example, 400 ft/lb of torque at 3000 rpm will make less hp than 400 ft/lb of torque at 7000 rpm.
Also having larger exhaust cams opens up the exhaust valves flowing more air, this helps out if you have a larger turbo, becuase you can flow more air into it and sooner. this helps to reduce turbo lag, aka the time it take for the turbo to begin to spool.
@bluez7406 the cam make open your valve for a more long period of time and also open more your valve but dont forget to put good lifter and valve spring
@chvick not all guys know about cams. dont be surprised if one day u find a girl that knows more about cars than u do man. just because i asked doesnt mean i dont appreciate that exhaust note. i was curious, and still learning more about cars.
@bluez7406 That's why i said "in general".... meaning some girls do but most don't... and you said the "the weird noise it makes" which is a negative input on the sound of the exhaust. That's where my comment came from lol.

@ilivas
thanks! :) but why does it affect the way the car sounds though?
bluez7406 7 months ago
@ilivas
The difference in camshafts is it shifts the BALANCE of power to EITHER a higher OR lower rpm ...... Depending on which camshaft you get.
So if you are talking about ONLY the cam you bought... then ok.. But if your generalizing you are wrong then.
other was nice car, getting a hawkeye sti soon
